Telling you now, if Chelsea get Tuchel and Arsenal go for someone like Jardim or Sarri, we may regret it, i'm hopeful we won't, but..

Nah. All are able to produce good football but they won't lead you to anything significant at the end. These kind of managers suit Arsenal and Liverpool very much as they give feck all about results or league position anymore, but for clubs like us, Chelsea and City, big clubs wanting to win, these kind of manager who did nothing significant in their career are the last option.

Next manager after Mourinho should be another winner.

So you would happily take Carlo Ancelotti over the likes of Tuchel/Jardim/Sarri/Naggelsman etc?

Allegri is my preferred choice after Mourinho, if he becomes available at the time Jose leaves. Otherwise we should do our best to keep Jose.

All those names you mentioned, I'll never trust them to deliver silverware. They will develop some youth and play nice football, sure, but if that's our only aim then we're the new Liverpool.

To an extent I agree, however, given the resources and the club I think these managers could be the winners that you say we need. I mean Bayern are holding out to get Nagelsmann and Hasenhüttl by the looks, and they aren't winners, if they are good enough for Bayern why not us? Tuchel won the Pokal once, lost the 2nd time on penalties, would of won the league with the most goals scored in his first season had it not been for a rampant Bayern, a situation not too dissimilar to our own right now, all this whilst losing some of his key players.

Like I said, i'm happy Mourinho is here, and that he stays and we go onto great success, but I can't help but envy the style of football the majority of the big clubs play, with managers that are seemingly the future, which is why i hope we don't end up regretting it if it all combusts at the end.

This bold part is said a lot but tbh till we see it already happening in reality with a top club it'll remain a risk. We don't know how these managers will organize the transfer policy of a big club, how they'll put a team what tends to win every game not just playing good football and that's enough.. etc. They have been managing a club without much ambitions, so their work will always get appreciated. BVB, Monaco or Napoli can lose many times but once they put in a great 2 or 3 matches their managers will get the praise again. In a top club this isn't present, so different pressure, different circumstances and different ambitions.

Till I say one of them doing the job in a big club I prefer not to take the risk and stay with getting a top winner manager.

Finally, which big clubs are you envying ? I think the only big clubs that are having a good manager for the future, playing great and winning at the same time are City and Barca. Madrid is going downfall after a successful season and their manager can be sacked, rest of the EPL are not worthy of a title challenge, Bayern will be going through an overhaul and Juve are a pragmatic side.

I don't think Guardiola is in it for the long haul.

Yeah that's yet to be seen, but I was referring to that he has set a good squad for the upcoming manager if he leaves at any time. Valverde is the same btw.

Yeah, agree with that.

Don't get me wrong I'm happy with Jose but I'm a bit miffed with the attitude of some in treating attacking football and winning football as mutually exclusive when the club was built on both.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, Man United are in a tier of football royalty where both of these things can and should be expected on a weekly basis against any opposition

Not anymore mate, fans now are content with tumescent football and second place.

Didnt Jardim win ligue 1 last season despite competing with petro dollars? so much about achieving nothing significant.

No, as i've said him getting sacked was an unexpected turn of events. He did not plan for that. But he did plan to leave. I mean he left Inter and Real a year after signing an extension. So that's three times he has done it.
Fair enough, but Jose has genuinely wanted to settle down in England and stay at 1 club ever since he came back to Chelsea.I have no doubt in my mind that he has absolutely no intention whatsoever of leaving United....

It does seem like the attitude has switched to you can either have nice attractive attacking football,

This is the issue I have, Mourinho was brought in and everyone was happy enough that, even though his football is usually quite dire it's the winning that counts and he would win us trophies. Granted we got Europa but I don't see us winning the league or CL anytime soon, especially with City and Guardiola who are storming the league playing really good football. This is particularly why i'd like to see Tuchel come in at some point, his system is similar to Guardiola's but he puts his own personality into it, our attack would be such a lethal force with the players we have under him.

You are a miserable so and so.

The club are about to tie up the signing of one of the best number 7s in the world and you still moan!
Johnathan Joseph joked that we're signing a new left back, that's what we've become. A new great attacker won't be changing that.

People forget just what a poor state we were in before Jose came in.

Moyes was out of his depth and just couldn't cope with the size of the club

LVG gave us the worst style of football ever seen at United let good players go for absolute peanuts and then made some dreadful signings which with the exception of Martial were mediocre , limited squad fillers , he then set about playing with 4 at the back protected by 2 defensive midfield players with instructions never try a pass of more than 10 yards .

Much was made of Jose vs pep when we at last got rid of LVG , the difference was that pep inherited a team on the up with a core of top class players and an unlimited budget to buy as many more as he wanted .
Jose had to do it the hard way , clear out the absolute dross ( not an easy task when that dross represents 50/60% of his squad ) get rid of the fear factor that stopped our players from moving forward ( while still maintaining defensive responsibilities ) and bring in new players of the quality that could bring back success .
On the whole his recruitment has been excellent . I see Pogba as a future ballon do'r winner , Zlatan was a master stroke until his injury Matic has proven to be integral to the team , Lindelof will be one for the future and even though Mikhi didn't work out Jose has acted decisively and used him as the bait to get Sanchez from Arsenal a fantastic piece of business .

To achieve all he did in his first season was exceptional and you get the feeling that the club has really turned a corner and the feel good factor is back , this park the bus nonsense makes me laugh out loud the team is scoring lots of goals goals and defending well . We get slated for a draw at Liverpool yet City get praised for a loss !!

There are many United haters out there and many Jose haters but for me he is
S doing a great job , has the team playing much better football and gives me great confidence for the future

I share this sentiment.

Because he's managing Tottenham. It's absurd to judge a manager by how many trophies he's won when he hasn't managed a top club. He's turned Tottenham from sixth-best into genuine title contenders while playing very attractive football and promoting youth. By any reasonable measure he's done an outstanding job at Spurs as well as at Southampton.
Genuine title contenders? Are we genuine title contenders right now?

As for "very attractive football", do explain why "tumescent" United have scored more than Spurs.

Tottenham were realistically in the mix for the title in 2015-16 when Leicester won it but screwed up towards the end of season. I don't think they were ever realistically in it last year, however, despite being 15 points better off.

Agree about playing style, it's unbearable how people convinced themselves that we play bad football because of 2-3 games where we went defensive out of necessity.

Great post! I agree with you.

Some people offer abundant misinformation about Jose's previous contracts. So I am inclined to set the record straight, we not stupid you know?

1. Renewal of contract with Chelsea (first stint): I genuinely believed Jose wanted to stay longer, but that idiot of owner that they have, decided to sack him because at the time CFC was 2nd and not 1st. Stupidest decision I have ever seen in my life. Roman understood his mistake later on and offered a Ferrari as a gift to Jose.

2. Renewal with Inter: He won the treble and he left by mutual consent, what else was left there to win. He knew after that tremendous year that nothing could excite him more, so he took another challenge, without any compensation from Inter. He was not fired, they respected his decision and I am not sure if Inter accepted any payments from R Madrid either.

3. R Madrid: Again, contract extension, but things got bad with the players, and I am not blaming Jose one bit. He left on his own accord to sign with Chelsea and be closer to his family in London. No compensation either.

4. Chelsea (2nd stint): Things started great and little horse won the league on the 2nd year, as he predicted in a conference the year before. However, he got sacked and received compensation. He was willing to see his contract out, but the owner did not seem to want to. I am confident, given the circumstances, that Jose wanted to stay at Chelsea for the long run, his wife got mad when he was sacked, as the family seem to have settled in London.

Overall, I think if he decides to stay with us for the foreseeable future, I think as long as he is happy and challenged, he will stick with us for more than 3 years. Man Utd will not fire him on a whim, we all know that. They are extremely happy with him at the moment, and I dont see that changing to be honest. So, whoever wants to try to convince us to sack him, they will need to speak to Woody and co. We are getting tired of such baseless rhetoric.

As for the compensation complaints, every single manager in the world has protection from sacking, I dont see why not. Everyone in here would do the same, except of course if you are an armchair cow boy and think you know it all.

Finally, Pep and Jose are way above as managers from anyone else at the moment. I am still iffy about Pep, cause every single team he managed either had great players (Messi) or they have been winning their respective leagues for years cause simply they have the money and others dont (Bayern). I m putting Pep on the same bracket with Jose because he has won almost as many trophies as Jose, however, I dont regard him as better. I know I know, his team plays attacking football blah blah blah, but he has so many world class players at his disposal, that they can actually string more than two passes together, unlike our team who basically is a mix of potentia world class players and players who barely are making the grade. Yet, jose managed to form a team goord enough at the moment to challege spot 2, and maybe, who knows, challenge for top spot, even this season, cause there are so many games and miracles can always happen. I expect us to be in the semi or final in CL, with the addition of Sanchez.

There was no necessity, it was a managerial preference.

Can’t think of anyone else I would rather have right now than Mou. Quicker he extends the better and it’s a peace of mind also for incoming players. I honestly think Pep will leave before Mourinho.

Jose has done a remarkable job since taking over and when he leaves the next manager will have much much better squad to play with.

We have a better manager and more talented squad. That simple. I did have a look at the Epl table and realised we had only outscored them by 2 goals. Your post made it seem like there was a huge gulf. Their attack is more fluid imo and they achieve it on less resources so credit where it's due

Less resources indeed. They have the best striker in the league, one of the best playmakers in the league and arguably the best English midfielder currently. Some of their players will walk straight into any other top 6 teams. However they're lying in 5th and their only hope is for Liverpool to feck up to get 4th.

The way you talk about this "less resources" as if they're South. No they're not. Their current squad is strong enough for a top 3 finish. Compare them with Chelsea and Liverpool, who has the better squad currently ?

That's exactly the point of why I don't want all these kind of managers here in United. They can lie in 5th, playing some nice football with a very good squad and no one will ever criticize them for league positioning. They'll always get praised for any top performance they get while any terrible result or any poor performance will escape under the radar. This isn't applicable in United or any other top club really. The step from taking the praise and avoiding blame all the time despite any results, league position or even any poor performance, to a club which needs football, results and trophies all combined while getting slaughtered when you just draw any game will never be an easy task.

Fantastic news. This will put a stop to the PSG rumours until the summer.
