Most Overrated and Underrated?

inb4 someone says Blind for underrated.

overrated - schneiderlin or herrera
underrated - lingard, mata or carrick

My first thought was probably Schweinsteiger too, but I'm sure nobody actually thinks he's a good football anymore. I think this awful season has lowered every persons view of our players on here. I've seen a somewhat widespread opinion that Martial has been 'average' this season ffs.

Overrated - Morgan Schneiderlin
Underrated - Antonio Valencia

Overrated - Rooney (not by fans anymore but media and managers. Today he was okay in the first half and then poor in the second, the commentators heaped more praise on him than every other player on the pitch put together, it's like this every game he plays. And he is considered unstoppable by both his club and country, which is just laughable).

Underrated - Blind. Very good midfielder who has transitioned seamlessly into a very good centre back. Gets next to no credit from the media, fans of other clubs never seem to rate him, and even United fans tend to want him 'replaced with someone better'. In a team with a functional attack he would look even better.

Overrated - Herrera. Good player but people treat him like he is a prime iniesta and talk about him being a barca target and all.

Underrated - Valencia/ Romero. Valencia is one of those players who people think is poor at a position just because he didn't play initially there. He is strong, athletic, positionally good. Crossing can be iffy but else good.

As for Romero, he is a very good shot stopper and for a no.2 he is good but you would think he is championship level going by posts here. I think he has been fairly good when he played too.

Overrated: Luke Shaw. I've heard him being called "world class" on here more times than I can handle

Underrated: Lingard. Not a fantastic player but his movement is brilliant. Don't think it can be appreciated when watching on TV.

Overrated: Mata and Darmian. Still appearing in many 'ideal first choice' lineups for this and next season somehow. Also Schweinsteiger although I think many are now realising he's well past his best.

Underrated: Valencia, by those who refuse to believe he can play well anywhere other than RW.

Herrera I would say is overrated and underrated in equal measure so it cancels out yeah?

Underrated - Valencia
His final ball hasn't even been that bad under LvG, and when he's been fit, he's been one of the best right backs in the league probably (since LvG took over). Just a tank all over the pitch, reliable on the ball, and while he always turns back when he goes too far forward, it's still better then anyone else in our team can manage basically. He is more then deserving of being our starting right back.
Honorable mention to Blind probably, as he's been incredibly consistent this season.
Memphis as well. Not that he's been good, but so many have written him off even though he has talent and is suffering due to a lack of chances/terrible style that we play/lack of quality in our attack meaning if he doesn't do something good to make an impact, we have nobody to fall back on really.

Overrated - Schneiderlin probably. Just not that good, at least not in this system or when he's played. Very good defensively speaking, but useless in possession.
Or Smalling among United fans (though everyone else underrates him). Don't get me wrong, he's a good defender, but I'm not convinced he'll be a really key player or indispensable or ever reach that top level, because he lacks that ability on the ball. I mentioned it in another thread, but playing him and blind at the back is basically using those 2 players as partners because they both lack a major part that the other has. Both like half players, instead of just using 2 complete center backs who can both be dominant in the air or play the ball our the back. As it is, Smalling goes for every single ball in the air and physical tussle, while Blind does everything on the ball. Becomes predictable and can lead to mistakes like against Spurs where Smalling felt he had to run all the way over to where Blind was to compete for a header and left us out of position.

Overrated: Mata & Herrera
Both good players but if they were half as good as some folk on here made out then they would be the best players in the league. The Mata-love has cooled a lot this season though admittedly.

Underrated: Fellaini
Not that he is a GOAT or anything like that, but he simply isn't anywhere near as bad as he is made out to be.

Over: Mata. If I could modify his football stats it would be Strength 4, Pace 10, Dribbling 10. Mourinho really was onto something.

Under: Valencia. Simply question is he still below Varela as 1st choice right back. Never been his biggest fan but he's a quality RB.

Over: Smalling
Under: Lingard - I think he's sensational. He makes it playing football look easy, but maybe a little casual. He's got the natural talent and as someone posted earler, his movement is fantastic
.

Overrated - Rooney & Januzaj
Underrated - Blind. :)

Over rated.. Mata
Glad he is fighting the good fight for people with great intelligence but no stand out qualities. One for the "if only someone believed in me too".
Under rated.. Fellaini/Lingard/Valencia
Take your pick..Could have added Blind but think most fans now accept he is done way better than we expected. So I just put it down to skepticism.

Over-Mata,Smalling
Under-Blind,Fellaini and sort of Rooney, but not to the extent of the first two.

Over-rated
Van Gaal - Needs to heed his own words of living in the past. Been an abject failure at United. No positives for me.
Schneiderlin - Shite. A waste of £25m
Smalling - Bang average but manages to con people with the odd good tackle here and there
Carrick - Best days are long gone
Januzaj - The fact that Rashford and Fosu-Mensah have done more than him already this season says it all.

Under-rated
Valencia - Getting the same crap from many on here that Raf got. Looks like he's got his speed back.
Mata - Would come into his own when surrounded by better players
Lingard - He's earned his place but end product could be better. Not as bad as people make out.

You could tell Schweinsteiger was on another level to everyone in his head at the start of the season, he was coming on and just controlling games - it's the legs that are the problem and the game away to Arsenal seemed to change everyone's opinion of him. His injuries coincided with our season falling apart. Mentally on another level to everyone in our team, physically coming to the end of his career.

I think a lot of players are now underrated because of the overreactions to our shitness.

Underrated - Darmian, good player having an awful time. Looked like a bargain at the beginning of the season.

Overrated - nobody

Over: Carrick & Rooney
Under: Mata & Blind

Rooney should stay forward and do the runnings in behind
Mata should just stay central rather than cut in from the right
Blind should play in front of the CBs
Carrick should find an agent and get into punditry

Overrated
Smalling aka the best CB in the world.
Mata aka the nice guy who would rule the world if he was given a consistent go in the #10 role.
Wilson aka the next big thing.
Lingard. Works hard but has no talent. Bang average footballer.

Underrated
Darmian/Schneiderlin. Consistently get slaughtered. They aren't that bad.
Valencia. Most want him gone every summer (including me) but he is a good squad player. Should never be first choice though.
