Most important summer window in years (100-150m budget)

I... you don’t want a replacement who weakens the team significantly. That’s what currently happens with Mata, Pereira and Lingard. A club looking to compete needs high quality players in first change.

True. I just think we should aim for a good first 11 but spending possibly upwards of 60/70 million on a second choice midfielder.

If we can get a few people out and raise 60 to 70m somehow with the sale of Sanchez (15m), Smalling (15m), Rojo (12m) and Lingard (25m), that would help us immensely with the acquisition of Sancho, Badiashile and possibly Grealish. I would have liked VDB in place of Grealish but those rumors seem to have died down weeks ago.

True, that would be a lot. He may be better than we think, that’s up to the scouts I guess, how he would look surrounded by better players, as he’s never been in that situation.

Grealish comes ready made for the league, there would little settling in period I would hope. What other creative att mids would be available cheaper that could acclimatize so quickly?

He would definitely believe he can get into this team as well

Why do people not understand how selling works? £67m for Smalling, Rojo, Lingard and Sanchez? Due to their form/ wages etc we would be lucky to get £20m, I would advocate letting Jones/ Rojo/ Lingard& Sanchezgo for free to free up their wage and Smalling is the only one who might go for £10m, maybe he is worth more but I think teams know he isn't wanted, only a fairly large wage for anyone outside top 4 for a CB, it just won't happen.

Clearly you need to ask that question to yourself. Inter are already will to pay ~15m for Sanchez itself and there've been talks of Smalling be considered for 15m but United want 18m. So yeah.... you don't seem to understand how a business is run because giving away 4 players for free is a huge loss for the club despite them being on our wages. We will look to get some return in the form of their transfer fees. Just saying...

You're going as bonkers in the other direction!

Lingard is still an England international at prime age. We're not giving him away for free.

Jones, Rojo might get nominal fees somewhere too.

Oh look, agreed on a free...

Sure... that's fine. The only reason that happened so that Inter could still honor his insane wages. Do you seriously think we would give 4 players for free??? Jones (26) whose still got 4 years left on his contract, Rojo (30) probably still has 2 to 3 years on his contract and Lingard (27) who probably has 3 to 4 years left on his contract.

Its about weighing return, they pay these contracts for players who barely feature and arent needed...

I had a look. Many good points but also..

Too much rose-tinted glasses. Hardly any criticism of Ole.
Well then there's not much to say.
He is one of the most respected account when it comes to tactics especially related to United.
He showed how Ole is building a team with a vision. If for you, that's to be criticized, then there's not much to say really...
Are you against the round 2, which involves now getting the likes of Sancho and all? Only possible because you need to create the rest of the pieces first?
What criticism do you really want to do about Ole phase 1 rebuild?!?

Jones has three years left, Rojo and Lingard only have 1 year left. That's according to Transfermarkt.

If we get sancho, this could be the only piece of business we do. We could go for a young centre back with potential for the £30m range but really cant see us spending more than we have given the current climate.
Our aim next season is to close the gap between us and city/liverpool and win a trophy. Sancho will surely help us do that. Matic, Fred and Mctominay will rotate for the central positions. Next summer we should look to replace matic and buy a top quality centre back. Thats when I can see us compete for the title.
More importantly, we need to get rid of the deadwood high earners left at the club. Saying that I cant see a mass exodus.I would be glad if any 2 or 3 of Rojo, Lingard, Jones, Smalling or Periera follow Sanchez.

We have put at least 3 years installments for Sancho, meaning that someone else will be in for Sure. Maybe even 2.

So Sanchez has gone for free. I cannot see anyone wanting to buy Jones and Lingard because their salaries are so high for players that lack any form, quality or injury history. Simply put I think they will stay purely for the home grown quota. I still don’t know why they extended Jones’ contract whilst allowing Smalling to go out on loan. Then Jones played maybe 10 games this season? It was a perfect opportunity to shift a player that hasn’t contributed to the first team in years.

Rojo needs to go. Again on too much money to shift.

I just pray the club learns from this now. Don’t pay players high wages until they have done something at the club. I’m even wary offering Sancho a crazy salary at this point. Make them earn their salaries.

Does COVID not exist anymore? There can’t be many clubs spending over £100m this summer unless they have billionaire owners.

Is there a source for this 100-150m budget mentioned in the title? Over 100m net spend is a giant amount at the best of times, in the current financial climate it seems optimistic.

I'm expecting Sancho and a CB and that's it. CB expectation is based purely on media speculation that we've been looking at a few, but for all we know Ole is a big fan of Lindelof and doesn't feel the need to replace him. I'm hoping we get someone with pace to complement Maguire.

- In terms of DM, we gave Matic a new 3 year contract so I don't think we'll see this as priority. Signing one would mean almost no game time for Fred/Mctominay.
- Grealish will cost over £50m and will be sat on the bench large majority of the time unless Bruno got a long term injury, I don't expect us to have the budget for such expensive luxury signings.
- Full backs I don't think Ole will feel the need to upgrade on AWB and Shaw although you could argue we need some cover with a left footed full back, not seen much speculation regarding full backs though.

I think fans get greedy and want to close the gap on City/Liverpool in 1 transfer window during a financial crisis, it's just very improbable. If we can add two quality first 11 players this window then it puts us in a good position to finish the job next summer. The team is young too so I think we can afford a little patience in building the team before we expect us to reach the top of the mountain.

I think you will find there are quite a few clubs wih Billionaire owners. Chelsea, City have already started buying and I expect more will.

If he didn't want him, he would have said no to the deal. Also, don't assume everything you read is true.

He did but was given either Fred or nothing!

The source is as good as it gets ( Athletic)

I can totally understand what you are saying but still expect us to try and sign either Grealish/VDB,however agree that we may not be successful in securing them.

Spending big is a huge risk for all clubs at present. They still can’t achieve full capacity in stadiums and who’s to say there won’t be another spike? Another lockdown could affect TV revenue as well. Champions League could be put on hold if there are travel bans. All this has to be in the minds of club owners unless they have a bottomless pit of money. I would suggest Chelsea and City are the outliers in the league.

If we can make one more big signing, Grealish or Declan Rice/or other CDM?

Grealish. I would love to bring in Declan as well, but as others have mentioned, we're already stacked in that position and should prioritize elsewhere.

We need more than Sancho. One injury to one of our starters and we're back to relying on this lot.

Personally think we will only sign Sancho and then maybe some squad player worth 10ish million.

Very real possibility because sounds like Dortmund are demanding a lot up front that we all probably thought
