Moises Caicedo | Signs for Brighton

For all the chat about pre-Woodward skills, this reminds me of the absolute mess of a Tosic/Ljajic thread.

Laurie Whitwell has commented on this, so we're in for him. The deal has to stack correctly for us. If it does, then it'll get done. If not, we move on.

The talk about a 20% sell on clause for IDV (current club) is a reason that would make me think we wouldn’t sign him. We’re not a club that do release clauses or sell-on clauses, well, ever. I certainly can’t think of any.

Personal theory: but I think that is part of the reason why we tend to have larger transfer fees in general.

Its not even large amount of money, why are we hesitating on the move?
Just double up or even triple the fee and get it done right away, before it getting more complicated.

I might be wrong but he seems to wax lyrical about everyone in South America, or at least that's the impression I get whenever I hear him on TalkSport. Anyway, let's hope he's right and we end up signing the kid.
He didn’t wax lyrical about Pellistri. Said it as he saw it,, he’s lightweight and needs to get stronger. Said he was a bit frail for the Uruguayan league.

As been stated by Laurie Whitwell and a few others, there are a lot of differing people claiming to represent him, which I imagine is making it difficult. It's not like anyone else is swooping in and I don't think we actually "discovered" him, so we and anyone else interested will all be at the same stage.

I stopped listening after "It looks like he's locked in for Man United."

If that interview is from within the past forty-eight hours, I'm feeling pretty optimistic and the Everton and Atlanta links seem like late attempts to offer more playing time.

That being said, how's he on actual transfer news?

Tim Vickery's opinion is usually very good from what I've seen over the years, and he isn't half talking this kid up. Let's do it!

Correct me if I'm wrong but Vickery isn't the sort of guy who would know about transfers, is he? He definitely knows about the players and their attributes etc, and I would definitely trust his opinion on whether Caicedo is good or not, but he's not a specialist transfer correspondent like you would see with journos at clubs or someone like Di Marzio/Romano et al etc. He probably knows just about as much as you or I, as he's read largely the same reports as us.

I don't believe it. He'll either go somewhere else in Europe or sign for us. We'll be the only team in England he'll sign for.
He said he's a lifelong United and idolises Valencia. He won't go anywhere else unless we can't get a permit or find out who reps him

Initially I thought Utd were dragging this out until the last week of the window so they could say we didn't have time to sign anyone else, however after reading this stuff it seems clear that who represents him is very confusing and we are right to take our time and look into everything properly.

Shouldn't there just be a FIFA database with who each player is represented by?

so are these agents claiming 3rd party owner ? I thought all that got stopped ? or are they just claiming to be his agent ?

Correct. He has never reported on transfer news or claimed to have sources. He’s simply describing the player.

I think this represents a perfect chance for our club to build the real expertise and network for the access to the vast talent pool of South America. Barca and Real Madrid have been there so long and got so many gems.
It is definitely a steep learning curve but a foundation for many years to come.
Let’s be patient.

He wouldn't know a lot about the transfer IMO apart from what the South American jounos are reporting.

He will though, have inside contacts within the clubs and perhaps, that's where his information comes from.

Atlanta United are looking serious in bringing Caicedo in.

For those who aren't familiar with the MLS roster rules, this means that Atlanta United will look to make Caicedo one of their 3 highest-earning players. DPs in MLS typically earn more than ~$2 million per year, so he's going to get a big paycheck from them.

Ah feck, come on Woody. We had enough cock ups in the summer already

The second tweet below that is even worse news. If we want to wait to see how he develops, why not just buy him and loan him out. And how are these other clubs with presumably lesser resources than us sorting out who his reps are faster.
