What I find contradictory is that english media is quoting ecuadorian media and the ecuadorian media is quoting the english media. It seems a rumor went out and its going in cycles with mutiple sources being quoted among themselves.

Im not sure who's tier 1 for south american transfers but 4.5M is peanuts for the talent of this kid, I mean thats basically formation rights. I hope we secure this deal soon, because this is exactly the type of signing Porto, Ajax, Dortmund, etc make and they have the advantage that they can offer way more playing time than us.

Still waiting for the catch here. 4.5m seems an absolute steal going from the reports we're hearing about him

There’s no catch. This is what proactive scouting is. Not bad, right?

We just aren’t used to it here. I don’t blame you.

We're taking on the Dortmund model now. That's great - it just means we've dropped our ego that United academy players are cream of the crop. We had a good run in the early 90s but haven't produced world-class talent since then. Time to go the Dortmund way.
Huh?
Henderson, tuanzabe, Williams, McTominay, Rashford, greenwood are all first team members. Several of them have potential to reach the very top and others will be solid PL players.

Good to see. What are his main attributes and what position/s does he tend to excel at?
Based on the intense research I’ve made in YouTube’s and reading off some news article in past couple of days, he is very good at passing and tackling, reads the game well, and full of energy and athleticism. He is basically an all round midfielder, can play box to box or DM.

Mikel was top class for 3-4 years.
He was never top class. He contributed less and less the longer he stayed at Chelsea.
Average player who turned into a nothing player.

He was also playing with peak Essien, Lampard and Makelele during his early years.. so that made him look better than he was.

What? Mikel was a beast in his prime, help them winning league titles and a champions league. He was their best DM since Makalele gone.
Imagine being a squad that had players like Makelele and Essien and someone calling Obi fecking Mikel a beast.
He was a nothing player. No amount of revisionism is going to change that.

He looks great in the highlights packages but tbh, I'm a bit concerned with some of the radars I've looked at. He's a DM but seems to be poor at interceptions, pressures and pressure regains. Also, his deep progressions seem to be non-existent too. Obviously loads of time to improve but thought it was interesting all the same.

From what I read he is more of a box to box cm rather than a DM.

I don't know what any of what you've just said means. I'll sleep easy though don't worry.

Oh... those guys... might have heard of them ;)

He’s not a DM.

He’s not a DM.
All the talk on here seems to be about him replacing Matic and Vickery was speaking about him protecting the back four. Even in some of the videos, I confused him for a centre back he was playing so deep.

He’s a completely different player to Matic, he’s capable of very good defensive actions across the midfield but he’s not a holder/anchorman (Makalele) nor is he only a defensive energizer bunny like Kante. He’s more of an all-rounder, a little bit like Camavinga but more defensively-inclined, whereas Camavinga in my view is a better dribbler in the midfield. (Disclaimer: not saying he’s as good as Camavinga, only comparing their styles of play)

In a hypothetical scenario where he comes and is a starter faster than expected, I would still want us to get a DM in the mould of Zakaria/Kalvin Phillips to play alongside him.

A more defensive Fred? We are going to be bloated with defensive-minded midfielders -- and yet we need a Bruno back-up ASAP.

No. I don’t see Fred as an all-rounder. Fred for me doesn’t provide much more than Kante would - he’s good at tackling, pressing and stamina but not much else. Caicedo is more technically-gifted, is a better passer and a better shooter.

We are nowhere near bloated with long-term solutions at CM. It may quickly become the opposite case if things play out as expected.

I agree. I think it's better to think of him as a cultured/refined midfielder that also isn't afraid to get stuck in and is pretty good at it to boot.

I'm having Christmas dreams of him occasionally filling in for Bruno with Fred and a proper DM behind and no one ever getting through our midfield ever again. Those three would be a nightmare to try and get through.

I think the sell on clause would've scared the likes of RB Leipzig who were linked to him due to it making no sense from their strategic POV.

Are we the baddies.meme

There used to be a Premier League show on tv here in Canada that would feature fan call ins. It was for the international broadcast of the PL and would feature usually callers from the Middle East and Africa. Someone might recognize and remember what the show was called, I believe Leroy Rosenior would be on it.

Anyway, every week this African guy in Ottawa named Obi would call in. Every week without fail he’d phone in and descend into a rant about “Mikel Obi” being a world class number 10 and if Chelsea would just play him as a 10 they’d win every game. He was Chelsea’s best player and basically the greatest player to ever live. He’d also just say “Mikel Obi” a ridiculous amount of times over and over.

It’s nice to know 10 years on, he’s found the Caf to continue his deluded love for “Mikel Obi”.

The above video was a fantastic listen and provides a lot of information. The South American football expert (Simon Edwards) is good.

It's also interesting that according to Simon Edwards, Caicedo has already amassed 25+ points which makes getting the work permit no problem. It looks like we'll be seeing more South Americans coming to England, thanks to Brexit.
