Agree. 1 good season doesn’t make you a 130m player, not matter what. Im just so glad Bellingham didn’t want to go to Liverpool, I’d be much more concerned if they spent this money on him and their fans would have much preferred him also.
Apparently Napoli didn't get that memo.

I know this is an often quoted phrase, but is there not someone at Villarreal or Marseille or Stuttgart who can do what Caicedo or Rice or Paqueta can do?

These guys arent unique players. It’s not like a Messi or Ronaldo or Neymar or Modric who are one of a kind players. These guys are good, yeah, but what they offer isn’t anything special. The amount of money it costs to buy players in the PL these days is insane.
He is quite unique, he's a very all rounded player that's shown a high level of consistency in the PL at 21 years old. It's like having Wan Bissaka's tackling in midfield combined with excellent passing and dribbling ability.

C'mon Boehly, do your thing and stop this madness. Caicedo, as a United fan is also probably reluctant to become a scouser.

Im not having that. A high energy midfielder who can tackle and is decent on the ball is not a unique skillset. I’m sure there are many players out there who can do those things to a good level.

Modric, Fabregas, Scholes, Xavi, these are unique players who were on a level of their own.

There’s no way what these guys offer is restricted to them alone.

His passing is average enough from what I have seen, agree on everything else though.

Liverpool are breaking the British record for the craic then? He's on his way to becoming a world class player so that constitutes as being unique.

Will we bid as well, just for the laugh.
absolutely, would be great.

also if he ends up at chelsea, whoever liverpool turn their attention to next, will have just gone up by another 10 or 20 million if caciedo is 115 million, then if im southampton im asking for more than half of that for Lavia...

Don't understand why he would be considering Chelsea over Liverpool at the moment, unless he just feels settled in the south. Maybe prefers the thought of the longer term contract too I suppose.

One meltdown at a time. Let's finish with your own personal one first. I can't look away right right now. :p
Well said.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen our fanbase on edge like this before. We aren’t even waiting for setbacks to shit the bed

Like I was saying late last night, Chelsea will not just give this up after all the effort they put in.

For Chelsea, it's always this. Offering £115M now would honestly be more embarrassing than if we just briefed we're walking away last night after being gazumped, even if we end up with Caicedo. This is crazy.
Or they can just match Liverpool bid and let the player decide. No need to offer more

Whether it is desperation or seeing what they want and going for it, I am envious of them just being willing to fork out the cash if they think it is needed. A part of me wanted United to do the same with Kane.

It wouldn't be embarrassing, it just shows how badly you want the player which should mean a lot for the player too.

I will obviously be over the moon but the money was already at a level that feels hard to justify. I was saying walk away before we even got to £100M, and we’re now talking about £115M. I know it’s Chelsea and Boehly, and point accepted on that, but we should have walked away the second Liverpool bid £111M.

One of the daftest and most annoying things about this thread is the people who come in to shit on the player whilst leaving logic and reason at the door. Since Liverpool's the likely destination, it's multiplied to the point of absurdity.

If Caicedo's are ten a penny, why are two clubs jousting over one to the tune of a British transfer record and not going out and plucking these other Caicedo's from thin air for a fraction of the price? If you can indeed collect a Caicedo on your way to the shops, why not leave this vastly overpriced one where he is?

He left a slum in Ecuador. Can't blame him for not wanting to go to another in Liverpool....

Probably because we've been tapping him up all summer. Arsenal did it with Rice for a year, we did it with Nkunku too when surely we would've had better options. Doing the leggroundwork seems to have some effect.

For the same reason Kante signed for us after the last time we had a meltdown season (switch Liverpool for United as the other interested party), one swallow doesn't make a summer.

However sadly I think we'll refuse to cough up here and let him go Liverpool regardless.

This is exciting. It does show two clubs who have managed their DM situation horribly though.

If Chelsea don't get him, they only have themselves to blame as they've been working on this deal long enough to get a deal done.

If they do get it done they're now doing it a significant premium. The Rice deal and now Liverpool getting involved means their negotiating position has weakened and that's not even considering that the window is so late in the window.

Liverpool have moved from squabbling over an extra £5m for Lavia for weeks too before launching a bid over twice the value for Caidedo without much previous interest. Liverpool get this done and questions should be had as to what they were doing previously in the window. Henderson and Fabinho deals were going on long enough for them to prepare.

If they don't get him, surely there's no way Soton accept what they were demanding for, if not more.

Mac allister, Caceido & Szoboszlai doesn’t really scare me much

If that's the case and his heart is just set on it, and he likes the plan for him there more than what Liverpool have told him, then fair play.

From the outside looking in, it seems a strange choice just.
