Should I say in capital letters again.

THIS €100M+ TRANSFER GENERALLY NEVER WORK OUT

People should chill out, be extremely happy it's not United paying it. We'll be here in the next 2-3 years you'll see how massively they will flop. We have been there as United we know it, how people don't realise this patterns is a bit perplexing.

Enzo was signed on those fees, I said the same. I said he will take the Pogba route, looking good for some period then they will know he won't help them that much.

Rice will also follow the same route.
Caicedo will also take the same path.
Bellingham, Tchouameni of this world will also follow the same paths. This signings mostly never work. We've been there as United we know.
Extremely proud it's not us paying those fees.

How come I haven’t seen a single report of the fee converted in euros? Is that just reserved for our transfers to further inflate the numbers?
No it's poor liverpool fighting against evil regimes. So they will get supportive hands from media.

Nah. That's an old point of view. A player who is a transformative signing for your team with world class potential at a young age is worth whatever you are willing to pay for them. Caicedo is the guy for them for possibly 10 years. It was a must sign for them and transforms them. DM, CB, attacker, whatever. A DM is among the most important positions in modern football and Caicedo is a rare level talent having his defensive ability, positioning, ability on the ball, and they needed someone to balance them.
I'm not having it! For 100 million I want a player that gets bums off seats, to quote Fergie.

Wow. Big money. He’s a good player but this is a gamble for sure. Their midfield will be interesting this season for sure. Who do we think is going to play the deepest?

Makes the Mount fee look way more reasonable in hindsight.

No I don't think messi will elevate them much. But caicedo could. They are paying top pounds for what they needed. That's always give you the cushion to spend extra 20-30 mn. It's not a sure thing in football of course.
21 year old Messi wouldn’t elevate them much

I think you need to calm down over this kid. He’s good but you’ve also got Enzo who is a fine talent himself. I don’t like seeing Liverpool sign highly rated talents but he has a lot to prove.

From what I’ve seen of them, Bellingham stands out as the one most likely to fulfill the price tag. The others I’m in the wait and watch camp.

Ill admit thought that I wouldn’t mind us spending on the next big midfield talent. I feel our engine room does need that. Maybe it’ll be Mainoo :D

€130m? Couldn’t they have gotten Bellingham for that money. Seeing as he “definitely” wanted to sign for them

He wasn’t going to choose CL less Liverpool over Madrid. Heck he wouldn’t choose any Liverpool over Madrid.

Over 100 million is absolutely ridiculous for a player that has only had one season in the Premier League. That is great business for Brighton.

Its like when your neighbor buys a sports car, its probably not a good financial decision for them, but you still feel jealous.

Would you spend 100m on a young Roy Keane basically? A young casemiro? Caicedo for me is probably the best young DM in the world after Camavinga (who is less DM and more playmaker). I'd probably put him similar to Tchouameni who went to Madrid for 100m last year.

The only players who have a chance to be worth those fees are the under 25 players basically. He's 21 - and already a brilliant player.id rather Caicedo than Rice as well, who I also rate really highly.

Wanting a flashy player for a big price is just the wrong way to look at things because you can have all the attackers in the world but you'll win feck all if your DM isn't the right type of player. Especially in the modern game where that's an increasingly more difficult role. CF is rightfully the most expensive position, and then DM I'd say is the 2nd most important position in a team.

Well I was told repeatedly Caicedo was a lifelong Manchester United fan so he’d “definitely” sign for them. An object lesson in ignoring transfer noise and listening to quality sources where you find them.

From the guy who would never splash crazy fees in transfers, to now breaking transfer records for a defender, goalkeeper and now a midfielder.

You laugh now but it’s strengthens them enormously. He completes their midfield rebuild. They are all young and have great potential. Strong contender for the 2nd/3rd spot.

The same arguments were being made about Yves Bissouma. £110m is a joke. The way some of you lot go on about Caicedo and Lavia is madness.

The price we paid for Casemiro was seeing Caicedo and Rice going to our rivals. Will we regret?

Has a Europa League club ever spent 129m on a single player before? I can’t recall it happening.

Sorry, it's expensive as feck, but that's a totally transformative signing imo. Puts them right into contention. If they avoid injuries, it's hard to look past City, Arse and them as the stand out top 3.

He said that 7 years ago. You have to spend to compete in this league. 'Doing it differently' will see you finish no higher than 6th.

He is a great signing and massively improves them.

We shouldn't need to but in today's market, yes, but that shows how inflated the market is.
When you account for inflation, a few like 30m for Rooney in 2004 is pretty much the same as spending 120m-150m on a player today. Just one of those things. The way I see it, if the player is already a quality player, addresses a clear hole and is under 25 so you can get a full contract of their prime at the very least, then it's worth it. If they have longevity into their 30s then all the better.

Don't forget Joao Felix.

He broke record fee for a defender just 12-18 months after saying that.

I am not underestimating messi here. And it's hypothetical question and messi s release class when he aged 21 was 700 mn I think. Not even messi worth that much.

I said in a sense that caicedo could be more useful for liverpool than messi because they are already a fine attacking unit. But in central midfield they have issues. Spending extra 30 mn for his five year service not a bad option.

Yeah but he’s Liverpool so being a total hypocrite is expected

Not that I really care for Klopp's honour but to be fair it just seems it's the current reality of top flight football. His answer then was -as expected in football- trite & shallow, made for scoring short term banter points.

The 100m€ mark was broken in 2013 with Bale.
Since then there's been 14 new transfers above. There's 2 confirmed this year, 1 very likely (Caicedo), potentially 2 more incoming (Kane, Paqueta) and I'd say possibly a couple of others that may happen (Mbappé, a big Saudi deal at the end of the window ?).

They've now transformed their midfield in one summer, we're still piecing ours together hoping it works.

Think they'll mount more of a challenge than us this season.

That was then, this is now. You can't buy all the great players, it's about finding the good ones for the project. Casemiro performed well last season, we'll see this year. He'll have to be supplemented soon anyway. There will be other exciting midfield players on the market next summer and the one after that.
