If United were to sign one Spurs player, who who you prefer?

For me it's Modric.

This season he's really grown into a central role and he proved last season he can also do the business out wide. A more versatile player and much closer to what we actually need, in that he gives us quality cover for both of the positions soon to be vacated by Giggs and Scholes.

Anyone else agree?

Or is it 100% Balemania on here?

Bale everytime, he is younger and will continue to get better and better

Couldn't have said it better, I agree 100% with you on this. For me, Modric is the man if we would sign a player from Spurs.

He would be amazing to have in our team.

Aye, Modric.

We're well stocked for wingers but when the old timers aren't around we'll have very, very little genuine creativity in there.

You say that Modric is more versatile in the position that we need, but that said he can only play one position at a time, I would rather have Bale try to replace Giggs, than Modric try to replace Scholes and Giggs.

Modric as he is more of the kind of player we would need and he would be more affordable right now.

Nani replaces Giggs when Valencia's fit. Gibson replaces Scholes. Eugh.

Yeah I know he isnt that old, and I think he is a good player, but Bale has improved more than any player in the past year, bar Nani, and that is what I like to see in young players. Modric has been very good for a few years and is important in what Spurs do

Cheaper is a very relative term when talking about two of Spurs best players

Probably need a Gomes or even a Huddlestone over either of them.

Saying that you'd struggle to get a Spurs youth player for under £1 million now.

We've got lots of wingers, both in terms of potential and established quality like Nani, Valencia and Park. I don't think we need to sign another winger. What we lack is a bit of in central midfield.

Modric would be signed to replace Scholes but gives us a bit of cover while we wait to see if the likes of Obertan, Bebe or Cleverley can establish themselves. Makes sense to me.

Modric easily. He's exactly the kind of midfielder we need.

We have Valencia to be our "kick and run" winger so don't need Bale.

Let's agree to disagree, I think one or the other would be great signings either way, I just think Bale is a future Top 10 player in the world, I dont see that in Modric.

I think we need a left winger more than we need a playmaker, I also think there are equal or better options than Modric as central playmakers. There are not many better options than Bale on the left side, especially if you want someone left footed.

But both of these two would be great signings.

No we need a fat ass like Huddlestone or a spastic like Gomes

Modric is the sort of player you can see going into his Mid 30's and still being very very good.

Bale, you get the feeling that it's one hamstring injury then bust. As soon as that pace goes I don't know if he offers much more.

Bale for me. There's not many player as exciting as him.

I agree regarding Bale, he's a top player already. The best thing would be to sign both of them ;)

We have
Brilliant wingers: Nani and Valencia
Very good, experienced, invaluable wingers: Giggs and Park
Exciting young wingers: Obertan, Bebe, Cleverley (?), Welbeck (?)

His trick seems to be kick it round you and chase

Exactly. We have Valencia for that. Plus Valencia crosses just as good too.

The Bale hype is weird. Valencia had a magnificent season last year doing exactly what Bale is doing right now and I don't see people calling him the best in the world.

Amazing what a little pace can do for some people.

Modric would be quality for us.

Central
Giggs (whom is better as a central playmaker than he is as a left winger now), Scholes, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Hargreaves, Gibson, Park*, Cleverley* (*can kind of play anywhere in the midfield) O'Shea can play as a defensive midfielder... We can also mention a few reserve players...

Our wide play has gotten worse and worse since 2007... All our wingers are better at the right than at the left. I think Carrick and Scholes will do a lot better if our wide play is better, because the defence will do far more mistakes for them to exploit. We were far better at stretching our opponents defence 4-5 years ago.

Giggs too would benifit from a signing of a great left winger like Bale, because there are no doubt that he is better in central now, that is where we get the best of him.

How on Earth has "our wide play has gotten worse and worse since 2007". Valencia was brilliant last season, Nani's been brilliant in 2010. I'd say after a period of 4-3-3 where Ronaldo wasn't really a winger anymore our wide play has returned. The Nani of today can cope easily with playing on the left, he is that good. Nani on the left and Valencia on the right harks back to Giggs and Kanchelskis, the golden age of wing play. I myself am drooling.

(Cleverley, if a CM, is a very attacking CM. Park isn't a proper CM. O'Shea can do the defensive role decently, but isn't an ideal choice there. Giggs and Scholes won't last many seasons more. That leaves us with Fletcher and Carrick, a promising Anderson who has some way to go, and Gibson who even more so has a long way to go. We often play with three CMs.)

A playmaker able to play in a two is a pretty rare asset nowadays, and it's exactly what we need, so it's Modric every time. Plus he's a better plyer.

You continually denied Modric was a better midfielder than winger last season. And kept saying he was constantly 'shunted' out wide because he was not trusted to play in the middle.

Now he is playing there consistently, you have changed your mind.

Modric every single time, we have been dying for a playmaker and regardless of the hype about Bale and the need for a left footed left winger.. the need for a midfield schemer is far greater.

He's also a more reliable talent and more versatile.

I don't understand why Maicon defended like Gareth Bale, against Gareth Bale either.

He didn't exactly destroy Maicon in the first game. In the first goal he was out wide in it was Samuel's mispassing at fault. The second goal again, he was out wide and Inter lost the ball in a bad place. Zanetti obviously couldn't keep up.
