MLB Post season

Kenny, what are your thoughts on Stottlemeyer? I always thought he was a superb coach. But hated Sias (Shit in a suit i.e. George).

I like Stottlemeyer and wish that he was staying.

I like George too. The Yankees were pretty bad before he got here. He wants to win and will do anything to do so. He's a very shrewd businessman. The Yanks drew 4 million people this year. He makes a fortune on his own network (YES), which is just a license to print money. He puts a lot of money into the team, and that's great for the fans. Other owners put the profits in their pockets and cry about the money that the Yankees spend.

Joe Torre is expected to announce his return to the Yankees in an afternoon press conference today.

And Leo Mazzone will be the Yankees new pitching coach, and I bet you'll see a difference in the game calling and pitching mechanics. I wonder if Torre sees Mazzone as his successor. Hmmm.... Mazzone has been around long enough and has the track record to earn a managerial job.

Due to the luxury tax, a lot of owners put George's money in their pockets and cry about how much he spends.

Memo to the Astros and Brad Lidge

Don´t feck with Pujols.

Somehow people forget that when they criticize the Yanks.

You can´t blame Steinbrenner for wanting to win and for spending the cash he has, but if having a payroll difference of 180m $ between 2 teams in the same league is good for the sport is open to discussion. The hard salary cap the NFL has isn´t the way to go, either. Teams should be allowed to keep the players they have and in the NFL teams are pretty much penalized for drafting well.

Pujols hadn't done shit all series and finally got wood on a pitch. Lidge fecked up by pitching around Edmonds, another bat that had gone silent in the series. He should have forced Edmonds to put the ball into play and most likely would have ended the game.

There goes the "Brad Lidge - best closer in the game" bandwagon.

Was, and is, Gagne until further notice.

Rivera...by a mile. Gagne hasn't been fully healthy in months. I'd like to see a poll of who managers would take between Rivera and Gagne. I think Rivera's 10 years of brilliance (and 4 WS rings) might edge out Gagne, ya think?

Gagne was awesome before the injury. But I'd still take Mr Automatic, aka Mariano Rivera.

He could´ve just struckout Eckstein.

One big problem for the Astros must be Lidge´s psyche. He needs to rebound quickly and forget about yesterday.

I'm sure he tried, but Eckstein stuck around and then got a solid hit that was perfectly placed between the 3B and SS.

You can't fault a pitcher for giving up a hit on his best stuff, but you can fault a pitcher for walking a batter, especially when he's pitching around him.

I think that there's a few franchises that shouln't be in existence. I liked the NFL better before the cap. It used to be fun to watch players develop.

Rivera is still the best. His post season record is probably the best of all time. Gagne had a great year or two, but he's never really done it in post season where all the pressure is.

They should switch from a hard to a soft, NBA like cap ...

Technically, it is a soft cap when you consider the signing bonuses. That's how a team can pay a player $1m salary with a $10m bonus, but only have $3m count towards that season's cap. The remaining years will see the cap charge cost more than the actual compenation for each year, unless the contract is extended and the player receives another large signing bonus.

LOL the astros blew it again
good game tho'
a 2 out grand slam for the sox
a 2 out 2RBI double for the astros in the 9th
then hehe... LIDGE blew it, a homer to end the game for the sox
brad lidge = miguel batista for the Toronto Blue Jays

This Sox team just keeps finding ways to win, and that is the stuff of champions. Some great games to watch, and an unbelievable season to date.

I keep thinking this is a dream, but it's obviously not.

Enjoy it Bears! Hope you guys keep it going.

just read the report on game 3. Chicago white sox are finding ways to win. only a total meltdown can stop them now as they need only need one more win out of a possible 4 games.

game one and two were good, anyone watch the marathon game last night?

I went to bed at the start of the 14th inning. It looked like those teams would never score. I wanted to stay up and see what was going to happen when they ran out of pitchers.

i believe it is tonight
my friend's so convinced that the astros will do a 'red-sox' *sucksox*
IF there's a game 5, it will be tomorrow night,

What a long game that was! Just when I was wondering which starting pitching the Sox would use to continue this marathon, nobody Geoff Blum comes up and gives us needed relief! The pitching in this series has been fantastic. Regardless of the team, the AL was going to win this one. As Dick Allen once said, the National League is the bitch league of baseball. And all because of the lack of a designated hitter.

I hope Freddy Garcia mows those Astros down tonight so the Sox can make history yet again.

Congrats ChiSox. Been a long time coming.

It was a sweep, but the series was much closer than it appears. Houston blew chance after chance after chance to score runs, easily could have a 3-1 series lead right now. Chicago's pitching did good in games 1 and 4, but games 2 and 3 were not that good. Clutch hitting won those two games. Houston's offensive woes returned at the wrong time, but you have to give some credit to Chicago pitchers.

Now, for the best time of MLB...the off-season when the Yanks spend freely and the other clubs make smart moves instead of going the Steinbrenner route.

congrats white sox, as long as it's not the red sox i'm happy
didn't expect a sweep series tho', nice job.
lol @ brad lidge again

I am on fecking Cloud 9...this is unbelievable. This is the best thing for the city of Chicago, better than the '85 Bears AND the 6 Bulls NBA titles.

As Captain Stubby and the Buccaneers once sang in 1959: Let's Go Go Go White Sox! Chicago's proud of you!

Houston blew is when they gave up the Grand Slam in the 7th or 8th inning of the second game

this world series championship was sponsored by: the umpires

the breaks the white sox got were unbelievable.

True, but you still have to make something of them.

and they did just that, props to them. still lives a bitter taste in the mouth ...

turning point was konerko´s grand slam in game 2 ... the guy couldnt become a free agent at a better time.

It's the breaks of the game, which occur throughout the season but are highlighted in playoff games when the nation is viewing. Who knows what Dye does in his at-bat if he's not awarded first base for a foul ball. ;) He might strike out or single or walk or homer or ground out. Who knows. It was a crap call by the umpire, but in the speed of the game with the crowd noise, I can't really fault him. But if I were the ump, I'd definitely have to consider how Dye did not react to a fastball that hit his lower arm/wrist. Surely that would sting and he'd have reacted with immediate pain. Sort of like the Houston batter last night. He was clearly hit by the pitch, even though the Sox players all reacted like he cheated (pot meet kettle).

And had Qualls not have hung his pitch for Konerko to smash, he might have preserved the lead. But how Lidge pitched since the homerun to Pujols, Chicago would probably have tied the game in the 9th.
