I remember being in the newbs with i_live_cement.

He's dead now.

Wow. I can't believe this genuinely happens.

Is it like "zOmg!!11!!1! QUilCk log on 2 da caf. MJLD as ben banned!!!!!lolz1! tb xx"? or is it much, much gayer?

Now i don't understand how people can type or text like that, surely it takes much more effort than to just do it properly.

Anyways onto MJLD, he sure did love his dairylea.

My join date is misleading. It says December 31st 2007, implying that while everyone was out partying I was signing up to here.

This is not the case.

I signed up at about 1am the night/morning before. So there.

:wenger: No you would be partying on NYE at 1am in the morning, as in 1st of January.

Therefore, it is highly likely that you signed up on 31/12 at the aforementioned time. Ha.

One of my firsts posts was one about Fletcher and how we should keep faith with him. Look at him now.

Brap.

Nice one. My second ever post was about Giggs' DVD True Red. Someone said the queue for a signing of that DVD was shorter than the queue for a signing of a CD for this crappy band so I was all 'The queue for Giggs should have been as long as the Nile!' or something.

I got rep points for it. :D

he has only nice things to say about you.

Sweet. As I only have nice things to say about you too rimmy.

I feel sorry for the lad.

I don't understand why he was banned since the general is for general purposes anyway and it doesn't appear on the main page.

I mean, some people have a lot more time on their hands then others and they see Redcafe as a place to pass the time. I once posted 76 posts in one day last week. I don't know how but either something happened or I had nothing better to do.

If anything the people posting the most are making the most money for the owner, they're spending long periods of time visiting pages, refreshing and blah blah. Anyone with knowledge of how Adsense works will know this.

As long as their tripe remains in the general then I don't see a problem with it, but then again it's not my decision this is just my opinion. I'm sure many more feel the same way.

As if anyone would ever ask Brophs for help.

I'm calling shenanigans on this one.

Yeah, you're right. Far better that they PM you and then wait four days for you to send back a gif of a redcafe poster headlocking a dog in a spaceship while saying something mildly humorous..

Wanker

I understand what you are saying, but that just gives license for posters to treat this forum like shit. Now, the General is a major attraction for Redcafe, intentional or not. It would be a bit shit to see this forum go to waste and become a spamland just because it's 'The General'.

I have no idea about the events regarding MJLD, so I won't comment. But and of the day, we still have forum rules, and those rules still apply here. We might give posters more leeway in this particular forum, but then ultimately that's fair as the content is less sensitive and serious then the Football Forums. But we don't allow porn, we don't allow overuse of swearwords in thread titles, we don't allow racism and all the other bits that are identified in the forum rules. Spamming is mentioned, and posters can not say they aren't warned, as this forum does help self-moderate, so on that note he can have no complaints.

I'm not really talking about MJLD here, but just in general. I see a lot of posters arguing that as long as the spamming and wumming is kept out of the Football Forums then, this sort of behavior is acceptable. It isn't and perhaps that needs to made clearer then.

I still haven't figured out what you needed it for.

Couldn't you have just give him a bit of a longer time out? He's off to Uni next week I think so his posting will have cut down by a lot. He joined in 2007 and it's only in the last 2 months or so he's really gone overboard.

I think it's a very harsh perma ban, but then it's not my decision to make.

You must have missed the bit where I said:

Hark, at the inhumanity of it all!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not inhumane, and there's no need to be so arsey about it, I just think it's a harsh banning.

At what point does posting a lot become spam? What about posters who don't contribute anything? This will only work if it's applied consistently and it won't be, because you mods and admins have lives and can't moderate 24/7.

He's taking a year out before going.

I'm not getting too much into it as a relatively new promotee really I don't have big powerful friends to back me up if I get ganged up on by the old guard lot, but at the end of the day we had the massive thread about bannings before and we went into how much people are going to get warned in there, there is only so many times you can warn someone before they do something. Every single time someone gets banned people would say 'why not one more chance' over and over. I think he got that chance in the last big banning thread.

It may be harsh but in truth we don't know he could have had 5 warnings in the last 7 days for all we know behind the scenes, it isn't our business as it doesn't affect us.

I liked the guy and sorry to see him go but rules are rules, if I don't follow them and get banned I can't really complain no matter how long I've been here for because time spent doesn't give you immunity or make you above anyone else, if you go downhill you go downhill.

I'd hate it if a once popular poster became a massive cnut and was kept here because the mods had a sneaky liking for him even though he wasn't the poster they once were anymore.

You sign a form to give up your life on the day you become a mod.

It's worth it though.

One thing for sure is that MJLD was perhaps the biggest spammer here.

He proved that in the weekly posts thing as well.

It becomes spam when you are posting for your post count. You were a spammer once, so was I. We were warned and we cut it out. Again, I don't know what happened with MJLD, but he was warned sufficiently.

And that is it really. For all future bannings, please before you post asking why and how we have done this, remember this quote and shut up.
