Mitchell van der Gaag…

Top button undone = sloppy attitude, no attention to detail. More jobs for the boys. Do not want.

I'd like to see him or Eric do the Pete Buttigieg blue suit for the first game.

ETH’s bodyguard and stunt double

What does he actually do?
They talked about him on the talk of the Devils podcast recently... He's the assistant manager when it comes to tactical things, McClaren is the "off the pitch" assistant (morale, relating to players and all that). MvdG is the main guy who sets up the training sessions.

He's the main man after ten Hag when it comes to coaching the technical side according to reports. McLaren also adds his input but he's gone on record and admitted he didn't know as much about the technical side of coaching until he met ten Hag at FC Twente.

Will he go to Ajax now they've sacked Steijn? How would that impact things for Erik?

Might be a good thing. Gets some fresh ideas in there. Hard for any of us to truly know the impact he has if he's here or not.

Suppose it's kind of like Carrick and McKenna being ridiculed for some of the poor form during Ole's tenure...then going on to forge pretty good records for their clubs as managers.

You never really know what they're capable of.

Carlos Quieroz was considered one of Sir Alex's best assistants and won't walk away from club management with any real achievements.

Van der Gaag has actually been head coach himself already. Never at the level of Ajax though, just at Portuguese and Dutch clubs in the second tier and lower half of the first tier.

Could be a good thing if we get someone externally in (as opposed to an internal promotion). We obviously have some issues in games and sometimes people from the outside with some distance from the club can see/identify them better or quicker than the people inside the club who are very busy and involved in the day-to-day stuff.

I thought he already tried to be a head coach in Portugal and got health issues from the stress of it.

So going to Ajax with the shape they’re currently in is absolute no for someone like that.

Find this all so weird. I remember when him and ETH joined he was heralded as a very good defensive coach or something.

Reading all the comments from 2022 are mad now. Him turning down the Ajax job to join us as a No.2. Lots of wow he must be great! And now he's off.

With Ruud and Hake (I think that's his name) coming in, there was always going to be some outgoings in the coaches.

McClaren is still a question mark too.

Do you think he spills the beans on ten Hag ruling with an iron fist or will there be a gaaging order in place?

If this Van Der Gaag news is correct, then we have let go of 3 coaches ( him, benni and Ramsay).

With only 2 new coaches coming in, I don't think Steve McLaren is leaving.

With him going. What’s happening with McClaren? Also do we have a defensive coach? I believe Ruud and Hake will favour the attacking side a lot more.

Mitchell's a bit of a weird name for a Dutchman, must be an Australian connection somewhere.
