Great signing
There was a time we predominantly produced our own. Now we simply buy in. Is that around 6 in just that age group? You could easily scrap younger ages and buy in at 15 or 16.
Yeah so that we can stop producing players like Rashford, Greenwood.
Henderson, Shoretire, Laird, Mainoo...
Of the 12 lads who got scholarships this summer 10 have been with the club from 13 or younger & 7 have been there the whole way through as have 5 of the 6 u16s who have played for the u18s this season.

I saw the U16 games on BBC in the summer, against the Northern Ireland sides, when he was on trial with United and I liked what I saw of him. Looked a mobile, composed centre back who was comfortable on the ball.
I was hoping we'd sign him but it had all gone quiet so I was assuming we hadn't. Glad to see he's joined.

For those of you who know - could you explain to me how things work before a player gets a professional contract ? What contracts do they have and can they simply walk out of it as they see fit ? I never really understood it.
What, bigsid made up one more thing to have a go at ManUtd academy. Wow that's (not) surprising
Darren Fletcher's son making the England u15 squad according to Bigsoccer forums and he plays for Man City(kinda understandable as the gap was pretty big between the academies when he joined in there). Would think it's a matter of time that he signs for United given Fletcher's involvement in the club now?

If he's called up to an England camp then he's among the better players in his age group.
As @Classical Mechanic mentioned it cos he was called up for England u15 camps, must mean he's a good talent. Fletcher has twins, so the other son is apparently playing for Scotland youth teams(no confirmation of that).
There were players that called up to U15s camp in the past and we ended up release at 16.
There were also U15s camp players before that were basically our former youth that were released at 12 or so.

Just checked and Harvey Neville plays for Inter Miami reserves now. Not that I thought he was that talented but it makes you wonder how many of these son's of famous footballers will make it at the top level.
That's true. The net is cast quite wide on these camps so it's not like making an u17 squad.
Does it? Are you really surprised that a middlingly talented 18 year old hasn't walked into their first XI straight away?
Not having a go simply noticed we appear to be signing large numbers of players from outside those produced within the academy in the later ages. Can't remember that being so prevalent in previous years.

Qualified, 3 wins out of 3 on to the finals in October.
He was pretty average when he was here, don't know if he was a bigger talent when he was a kid but at U18 level he never stood out.

As I understand it...from the ages of 7/8 until they are 15/16 they are one year contracts. Each player and parent signs the contract each year if the club offers one. Some kids don't develop, some move away and some kids just lose interest. Theoretically, a club could hold a player to that contract but in reality most clubs are pretty loose unless the player is really good. If United want another player from another Academy they would have to pay that Academy compensation (and vice versa) like we did with Sharpe at Derby County recently.
If a player is not under contract or has been released, as with Harrison Parker or Jospeh Olowu, then we don't pay compensation.
When the player reaches U/15-U/16 they are offered a scholarship which can be different in make up.
1 year scholarship
2 year scholarship
2 + 1 two year scholarship with a guarantee of one year pro contract
2 + 2
etc
When a player reaches 17 they can sign a professional contract. This can be anything. 1-6 years depending on potential or even more but normally less given chances of injury, lack of development etc
So in answer to your question....a player can walk out after each season if they want to unless they are under contract. If they choose to break the contract and go to another club, compensation is involved. If they break the contract and just leave football most clubs just let it go.
I think his point was how far Harvey Neville has fallen by signing for Inter Miami's reserve team.

Wrong to suggest one year contracts and that you can leave at any given point. Compensation is always due as club retains registration. In Parkers case if he has been at arsenal say 6 years minimum compensation be around 200k
I guess in some other leagues they release stats of young players? Am glad we don't!!
Players signed going into their u9-u12, u14 & 16 can only be signed for 1 season but u13 & u15 can be signed for 2 seasons. Arsenal would have filed an intention to retain form for Parker which he rejected so they'd be due compensation for him.
Has he? Was he ever gonna get a game for Man Utd's first team? Will he get one for the team his dad's coaching while living by the beach in Miami? He's made a sensible career move for my money.
One footballer's son not being all that good at football really doesn't have much bearing on footballers' sons in general. Kasper Schmeichel doesn't seem to have taken any harm from being the son of a top footballer for example.
Speaking of Harvey Neville, he is playing in 10 minutes and a interesting inclusion on the bench for Fort Lauderdale CF is none other than new signing, Romeo Beckham.

If a player has been released and therefore a free agent...why would there be compensation?

I can't see the answer to the question...:What happens if a club releases a player?" ...then theoretically he finds another club say two years later. If the old club released him then they don't hold his registration???

Yeah, I recognise most of the names from the Northern Ireland games. Adam Berry wasn't there, but he's someone I've heard of and I'm looking forward to seeing him in the U18's at some point.

He looks fun there. Can't think of us producing too many dribblers in the academy.
Does anyone knows what happened with Joseph Olowu? He played as a trialist in the last u-23 game, but did he signed eventually?
