I am truly amazed how so many United fans get hot under the collar about the utterings of Pogba's agent, and indeed some of Paul's own offerings. Whilst I believe that on his day Paul Pogba is a world beater, I also believe those days have become increasingly less, even before he came back to OT. I suspect that both Paul and his agent have begun to realize his 'days in the sun' are getting less, and even that some of his best days may now, as strange as it may sound, be already behind Paul. Its not an 'age thing', it is I feel a 'staleness thing', his physical prowess is declining, he is getting caught in possession much more and even getting 'muscled out' of possession, something that use to happen only once every 'Preston Guild' (look it up if you are not sure what I am referring to!)
Whilst Paul's total contribution at West Ham was half decent, his impact as a WC player only came to full effect when he was surrounded by the likes of Bruno and Rashford. Pogba did put in a lot of effort on Saturday, at least by his own sometimes woeful standards, but there were instances of loss of control, getting caught out of position and caught in possession, and even worse, occasionally Paul found himself going in the wrong direction, i.e. totally misreading the play! Some of these were minor things, maybe some might say it's because he has not been playing regularly, 'he's a bit rusty' etc. However I have followed Pogba's career, ever since he arrived as a lanky 16 year old at OT, for me he is now exhibiting little mistakes, little slips, lack of concentration/attention to detail, things he would never have made mistakes about, even in his youth.
Age wise and career wise Pogba should be about to enter his prime, but he's not, his agent is having to work overtime with his utterances to keep him anywhere near the headlines. This at a time when hardly any fans are able to watch live football in flesh, Paul is struggling to make an impact and to identify (for others) a 'gap' on the field, when he's not present. At one time the thought of leaving out a fully fit Pogba was something Ole, indeed other managers, would never have considered... but Ole has now been doing just that!
