Michael Keane

Good game in overall from him.To be fair his position wasn't exploited much with City having no striker.

He's inherently good at defending. Now he's playing regularly I'm not remotely surprised to read he's doing well. His season at Leicester in the Championship was excellent given his age and I'm glad it's looking like we've got his loan right again this season.

He was pretty good at Blackburn 2nd half last season playing RB too IIRC. Derby didn't use him much for whatever reason.

If he could add some agression and little more agility/desperation to his game at times then he can go a long way actually. His reading of the game, physical attributes and technical attributes are all good and he has improved aerially so much.

Another good game today for him vs Newcastle. Most of the Burnley fans gave him 8 or 9 on their post-match rating.Had to partner 3 different players today throughout the game due to injuries but stayed solid.

His current loan will be expired after 2 days.

How is he defensively? In pre season I saw his ball playing skills and was super impressed, also saw that he often scores for England u21, but never seen the defensive of him, and how does that compares to McNair/Blackett?

Very solid recently from what I've seen of him.He was more experienced than McNair/Blackett so a bit unfair to compare but he looks better.I would let him stay at Burnley until the end of season and let him overtake Evans in the pecking order for next season.Regular PL game times will do him loads of good.

I'm guessing Burnley will be looking to extend the loan especially with all the injuries today. Looks to have forged a spot in the XI for them which is great and the experience will do him really good. From what I've gathered the fans of all 4 of his loan clubs have been impressed with him so I'm hoping he can get a spot in our squad next season.

Thanks, about time that a loan deals succeeds.

Is he good enough on the ball for Van Gaal? I tend to get the impression that he has just missed the boat on being a modern centre back. I think he will be one of the last generation of old school English centre backs. I think that he is likely to have a career akin to Shawcross, which is a great achievement.

He's good on the ball, good at carrying it out as well.

Odd you say that, really good on the ball. What stood out when he was a pretty small kid in the academy.

Sean Dyche is the biggest reason he's doing so well. Superb defensive coach.

Let him stay there. Our defending is too open right now for a kid.

He's Burnley's highest rated player on whoscored in his 8 games and 2 sub appearances so far. He's also the 2nd highest rated player under the age off 22 in the league, behind Sterling (ignoring Harrison Reed at Southampton who has only played 3 games which isnt really enough to count).

The loan has done him very well and he'll be some proper competition for McNair. His strengths are winning the ball in the air, interceptions and he has some good ball playing ability out of the back. He can be our improvement on Evans

I think our squad would be improved by having him in it - although we really need an experienced head rather than another 'young and learning'

Well the academy is not the Premier League. Evans is actually quite good in favourable situations on the ball but if you put him under pressure to do something with it then

Whoscored also has Phil Jones as United's highest rated player this season so far. They measure players ability in simple stats like headers and interceptions. They do not downgrade defenders for poor positional play or poor passes under pressure, for example.

They do but only if it leads to a goal. Thats when they get the "e" error tag.

Yes you have to bear in mind the individual errors that didnt lead to a goal, but most of our CBs do that on a game by game basis. Jones, Rojo and Evans especially.

If your definition of good on the ball is those Blackettesque long passes or carrying it out from the back then yes.He could play comfortably at right back so hardly a surprise.

Burnley fans are comparing him with Gary Cahill in terms of future ceiling (Cahill was on loan at them 10 years ago).Calling him back now might disrupt his progress so I hope we're thinking long-term.

I think his loan expires shortly. With more injuries in defence today, should we now be recalling him?

I was more in favour of not, but I'm not sure now. McNair has done well for me but I think through necessity we might be getting to the stage where we're relying on him a bit too much, too soon. Keane might provide an alternative.

I would leave both of them where they are. It's vital for Keane to get regular PL game times. He will be 22 next season so need to be back when he's ready to challenge the 4 senior CBs, not to act as another cover for them.

Their best player (8/10) according to two of 3 ratings on one forum. So take it with a pinch of salt.

There are rumours that Burnley might be getting him on a permanent deal. I hope that is wrong as I think he's our best CB prospect

I would be fuming if we let Keane go permanently at this point of time. The way we handled that FA Youth Cup winning crop has been a joke.

He would come back in and right away be one of our best defenders in the air, so if we sold him it had better at least be for a significant amount of money. He can definitely help us and deserves a chance to show it.

Playing really well at Burnley and if he gets the chance to move permanently to a Premier League side now or in the Summer he should consider taking it, new defenders will be signed so he will be no closer to the first team next season (unless injury problems continue). He should look at Gary Cahill as an example of what can happen if you play regularly in the Premier League.

With the purse strings being loosened it is going to get tougher and tougher for someone like Keane to get given the opportunity he deserves and as 5th/6th choice it is a big gamble coming back in terms of how many games he would actually get next season.

You say that but we signed one, not convincing CB in the summer that Keane will feel he can compete with for a spot. There are no guarantees we'll spend a lot in that position

I think it is pretty much guaranteed we will strengthen there, would be negligent not to and we can prepare properly for the transfer window in the summer rather than the last minute rush we had this season. Rojo was bought to be a squad player so choice for Keane is come back and compete with someone like him for a place on the bench or play regularly in the Premier elsewhere.

If he's not good enough to play for Man United, then no point keeping him.

Welbeck, Cleverley were very skilled during their loans and turned to be average players for us. And we faced the same issue with Chris Eagles, Eckersley, Danny Simpsons, Bardsley and co, so that's just showing that we're producting player but not top class players.

Regarding him, he has to compete with Jones who is 2 years older I think, and even if Jones level is debatable, he's above Keane.

Jones is far above Keane, but then for me Keane is better than either Blackett or McNair who are both getting game time at the moment - unfortunately he made a few mistakes in preseason and that sealed his fate.
