He's inherently good at defending. Now he's playing regularly I'm not remotely surprised to read he's doing well. His season at Leicester in the Championship was excellent given his age and I'm glad it's looking like we've got his loan right again this season.
How is he defensively? In pre season I saw his ball playing skills and was super impressed, also saw that he often scores for England u21, but never seen the defensive of him, and how does that compares to McNair/Blackett?Another good game today for him vs Newcastle. Most of the Burnley fans gave him 8 or 9 on their post-match rating.Had to partner 3 different players today throughout the game due to injuries but stayed solid.
His current loan will be expired after 2 days.

Thanks, about time that a loan deals succeeds.Very solid recently from what I've seen of him.He was more experienced than McNair/Blackett so a bit unfair to compare but he looks better.I would let him stay at Burnley until the end of season and let him overtake Evans in the pecking order for next season.Regular PL game times will do him loads of good.

Is he good enough on the ball for Van Gaal? I tend to get the impression that he has just missed the boat on being a modern centre back. I think he will be one of the last generation of old school English centre backs. I think that he is likely to have a career akin to Shawcross, which is a great achievement.

Odd you say that, really good on the ball. What stood out when he was a pretty small kid in the academy.
He's Burnley's highest rated player on whoscored in his 8 games and 2 sub appearances so far. He's also the 2nd highest rated player under the age off 22 in the league, behind Sterling (ignoring Harrison Reed at Southampton who has only played 3 games which isnt really enough to count).
The loan has done him very well and he'll be some proper competition for McNair. His strengths are winning the ball in the air, interceptions and he has some good ball playing ability out of the back. He can be our improvement on Evans
Well the academy is not the Premier League. Evans is actually quite good in favourable situations on the ball but if you put him under pressure to do something with it then
Whoscored also has Phil Jones as United's highest rated player this season so far. They measure players ability in simple stats like headers and interceptions. They do not downgrade defenders for poor positional play or poor passes under pressure, for example.

I think his loan expires shortly. With more injuries in defence today, should we now be recalling him?
I was more in favour of not, but I'm not sure now. McNair has done well for me but I think through necessity we might be getting to the stage where we're relying on him a bit too much, too soon. Keane might provide an alternative.
There are rumours that Burnley might be getting him on a permanent deal. I hope that is wrong as I think he's our best CB prospect
How was he today/yesterday?
Playing really well at Burnley and if he gets the chance to move permanently to a Premier League side now or in the Summer he should consider taking it, new defenders will be signed so he will be no closer to the first team next season (unless injury problems continue). He should look at Gary Cahill as an example of what can happen if you play regularly in the Premier League.
With the purse strings being loosened it is going to get tougher and tougher for someone like Keane to get given the opportunity he deserves and as 5th/6th choice it is a big gamble coming back in terms of how many games he would actually get next season.
You say that but we signed one, not convincing CB in the summer that Keane will feel he can compete with for a spot. There are no guarantees we'll spend a lot in that position
If he's not good enough to play for Man United, then no point keeping him.
Welbeck, Cleverley were very skilled during their loans and turned to be average players for us. And we faced the same issue with Chris Eagles, Eckersley, Danny Simpsons, Bardsley and co, so that's just showing that we're producting player but not top class players.
Regarding him, he has to compete with Jones who is 2 years older I think, and even if Jones level is debatable, he's above Keane.
