Michael Keane

Leicester will be the obvious club for his next season if they win the play offs, year in the PL and he should maybe be ready to come back and fight for a place.

don't agree that Leicester is the obvious club. far from it. a club making that [potential] jump to the PL will want to plug a starting CB role with "experience" or some random import.

there's definitely going to be a bedding in period for both the new manager and coaching staff. you could argue a Carling Cup place until a suitable loan pops up could be the route taken.

all depends on who comes in/who goes in the summer as well.

loan window shuts on the 28th. Thorpe, Cole also need homes - but Keane brothers are the priority. Lingard already one step ahead.

Is Michael linked with Wigan as well? I heard Will being linked with them, but had no idea this guy was as well

Given his performances for Leicester last season Id have thought he'd have no probs getting a loan with one of the bigger clubs in the championship.
Any reason why Leicester haven't gone back in for him?

they have had a settled defense this season. Konchesky and de Laet with Wes Morgan and Liam Moore centrally. They also have Miquel on loan from Arsenal, Bakayogo a former Tranmere-defender, Sean St.Ledger and experienced polish defender Wasilewski (former Anderlecht) - and those 4 can hardly get a game.

So a new defender is not a priority for Leicester

If he went to Wigan...Michael in defence, with Powell playing behind Will up front. I'd have to start watching every Wigan game!

The boy and his brothers life will be a failure unless they re-declare their love for wearing the green shirt

I don't understand.........i really don't understand.......why he plays still reserve football.

because our new management team wanted to have a look at him. it simply doesn't make sense.

Another case of the transition between managers not working well for the squad.

Michael Keane is set to leave Manchester United on loan, with a string of Championship clubs looking to land him.

The England Under-21 defender spent most of last season taking in a loan spell at Leicester City and has been on the fringes of the first-team under David Moyes.

Now United are ready to let him leave on an initial short-term basis to enable him to gain further experience.

Sky Sports understands that former Old Trafford coach Steve McClaren wants to take him to Derby County, but his former club Middlesbrough are also pushing hard to land the 20-year-old, who can play in central defence of at full-back.

Charlton and Millwall are also hoping to secure Keane's services, giving him plenty of options ahead of the loan deadline on Thursday at 5pm.

Keane does look like he will make the move before the deadline, as will his twin brother Will, who is close to completing a deal with Wigan Athletic.

Sky Sports understands over a dozen Championship clubs tried to take the striker, with the Latics in pole position.

Looks like he'll leave before the deadline on later today. Lots of Championship clubs interested. Over half the Championship clubs wanted to sign Will too, apparently.

Goes to Derby City according to SSN.

They've got a cracking defender there. I actually think he'd have done well in the Premier League. I doubt he'd get the games in teams with established partnerships, but I don't think he'd look out of place. Being part of the best defensive record in the Championship aged 20 is no mean feat.

Local side, I'll be keeping a close eye on how well he does for them.

McClaren's doing a good job of bringing some young talented defenders like Wisdom and Keane to sort out their average defence.

Bit puzzling that Thorpe and Cole haven't been sent on loan. Having said that I'm impressed with our loaning policy this season. All of them seem to be playing regular football. Hopefully thats the case with Lawrence and Keanes too.

Anyone know how he's been getting on?

Out of 8 possible games

4 x Started the game
2 x Coming from the bench
2 x Unused sub

He's started the last 4 games I know, but any clue how he's been? I might go check on the derby forums.

Was at the Derby vs Wigan game. A lot of fans around me rated him. Derby were poor but Keane was solid. Composed on the ball & good timing with his tackles. Reminded me of Evans in some ways.

So from what I gather he's come in the team to replace Keogh, their captain who went out injured.

Apparently was a bit shaky at first, which I suppose is a bit natural and as we know with Keane has been winning a lot of headers from corners and they expect him to chip in with a few goals.

They also seem keen to keep him as he'll be helpful with their promotion bid and some of their fans want to see him play alongside Keogh when he returns, replacing Buxton as Keane is more of a ball winning/playing defender.

Apparently he's left footed, I didn't know that and he played his first ever match in his career on the right hand side of defence rather than his favoured left hand side.

Some fans are deluded into thinking he can perform the DM role, but as good as he is as a defender, I don't think he'd be good enough to perform in a midfield role.

Overall I think it's fair to say that they're impressed with him and he may be vital for their title push if they're as thin in defence as they must be for him to be needed.

Wouldnt mind having him as a fourth/fifth choice defender next year if rio leaves, although a PL loan might be best for his development.

@Genius Me! Are you sure he is left footed? Used to play right back a lot if I remember correctly.

He's right footed.. But seems pretty good with both feet like Evans.

I always thought he was right footed, but all the ram fans seem convinced he's left footed.

Weird, he has only beed there for a short time so think they have this wrong. Or could be one of those where is good with both feet so makes it harder to guess his natural one.

Yeah, I always thought Evans was left footed when he was younger but since he came back to united he seems to use his right foot more but is comfortable on both.

Must be the same with Keane, but they're all unanimous in their thinking of him being left footed.

I can't help but think we've wasted a bit of his time on this one. He was a permanent fixture in the best defence in the Championship last season. Leicester fans thought the world of him. Leicester very nearly got promoted in the end.

A Premier League loan from the outset would have made more sense. He looks class.
