Another who will struggle to make it here.
Not good enough, and that's no knee-jerk; I've never really rated him ranging right through from the last few pre-seasons, his Reserves appearances and the odd first-team one. I think he needs to move on.
He just hasn't impressed me for years now. Blackett has been far superior.

That was Wootton, for one, and for two, this was a freak result. I remember a few years back when Smalling and Evans got a working over from Carlton Cole and West Ham. It wasn't the end for either of them, no least Smalling who had similar experience at the time as Keane does now.I remember he was responsible for us losing late goals against Chelsea in the league cup a few seasons ago when we were coasting to a win in the final minutes of the game
Well I had him down as the worst of the 3 central defenders which is something given how atrocious Evans was. I thought Vermijl was the best, making fewer errors than the other two.
Was better than Jonny Evans and Vermijl who crumbled 2nd half after a solid first half. Some knee jerk stuff being posted across threads frankly.

He wasn't better than Vermijl. I think Keane was at fault for the 2nd goal with a horrible give away.
hilarious.

He was very good against a strong Chelsea team. That was wootton who cost us.
To be fair, his whole career he has been, up until our summer tour.Who's the poster who said he's better than Tyler Blackett?
Neither of them impressed me remotely in that match. Of course Keane was very young for a defender then, still is young but this is his big chance. I can't see him getting another chance at United if this season goes badly for him.
I don't know if he is good enough or not. In some respects he is perhaps unlucky that Blackett has shot past him over the last couple of months. Who knows what will happen ? By the end of the season Keane may have overtaken more than just Blackett, or alternatively, he could be on his way out.
So this is a knee jerk reaction then? How so? He was awful tonight.
So this is a knee jerk reaction then?
I thought he was the least worst of the three centre backs though that still meant he was pretty awful. Of the three goals after Evans' gift two of them were down the left hand side where Vermijl and Evans were dreadful. Not sure how one pretty terrible rushed pass suddenly makes him a bad passer either but I guess that's probably down to people rushing to judge a player they've watched in all of about 3 games.

If I hadn't seen it I'd have a hard time believing myself. Blackett was a defense of liability at left back especially in the air, the few games he got at center back for the reserves two years ago were disastrous.I really question this after what i've seen from both, even from a basic level. Anyways, things change and players develop differently.
Evans was worse, no question but if you concede 4 goals I don't think anyone can claim to have had a good game.I remember Smalling actually having a pretty decent game then, and he pretty much won the back up center back role after that game ahead of Evans. It was Evans who was getting torched by Carlton Cole and ended up getting hooked after the 4th goal.
I've only seen him play for the first team, and he hasn't really shown me anything that makes me believe he will prove to be a success here, unlike Blackett who has shown a lot of promise.
On the other hand, many are claiming Keane showed more promise before this season than Blackett did, so I still reserve judgement. Tonight wasn't a good performance though. I know pretty much no one stepped up, but for some reason he really stood out for me tonight.
I like Blackett and agree that he's gone ahead of Keane in terms of the pecking order, helped a lot by being one of few left footers, due to his performance in the first team but it's an undeniable fact that he had not shown anywhere near the level of promise as Keane either in the Reserves or out on loan. That doesn't mean much to me these days. You ever watch a game and have such a contrasting view on one player compared to another poster such that you question if they're seeing the same game? Some posters thought Powell was excellent today for instance. Yikes
Not ready for first team yet, obviously quite shite in his last 2 matches for us. Do not want to see him this season anywhere near the first team to be honest.
Defenders are tested over a longer period of time vs varied opponents and systems anyway compared to almost all other positions.
He was shite vs Sunderland ?
