Michael Carrick - Middlesbrough Manager

Guessing he’ll have to finish in a playoff place minimum next season to avoid the sack?

If they keep on losing their best players without replacing them, they’d be dumb to sack him. Another start like this season and I’d understand it. But overall having a similar season to this one should keep him in the job.

Depends what they do in the summer. They overperformed after Carrick took over last season then they went and sold their best player and they lost others too. I don't think many people were expecting them to be a playoff team this year. In the end they did quite well to finish in the top 8.

They had a brutal run with injuries too. One of the best things with Carrick Is he’s got them scoring goals. The only other time in recent ish history they’ve scored goals is when they had Juninho and Ravanelli or when they had Viduka, Hasselbaink, Yakubu and Maccarone.

Come to think of it that pair of forward lines were pretty unbelievable for them, we’d probably kill for either of them group of forwards right now  Schteve Mc as the manager of that second group if I remember rightly.

My impression is their current situation is to rectify and maintain financial sustainability. He lost senior, start players. He has many young players and also many 30+. In the next two years, probably will continue to build the team with better age profile and has an eye for promotion I guess.

While all attention is on McKenna, and rightly so, I still think Carrick did well. Hopefully they back him next season and they can do an Ipswich.

Boro have appointed Michael’s brother Graeme to their coaching staff.

He’s been the Newcastle U18s manager from 2022 and has also worked as an England youth coach.

Gave dirty Leeds a slippering in the cup tonight. Had a decent start to the season after winning their opening game. Could be a decent shout for the playoffs this year, be good to see him promoted.

Those following Championship and perhaps Middlesbrough more closely, how has Carrick done so far there? Took over in October 22nd (they were in relegation zone), then went on finish 4th and play in playoffs. Last season finished 8th and currently 7th, one point behind playoff places. Seems like a decent job but are the fans happy?

I've followed results and last season they suffered as they sold Akpom to Ajax who had scored 29 goals the previous season, replacing those goals was a mammoth task.

Yeah guess he's doing a good job then. Really wonder how his coaching career will go, perhaps could become coach at PL club at some point.

They have a lot of the ball and create a lot of chances but they seem to score in bursts and are a bit soft at the back. Hit and miss really.

Carrick seems to do very well but there seems to be a disconnect between him and the guy they have responsible for transfers

I really liked the way we played under him in that caretaker spell, would love to see him get a crack at the Prem.

After an average start and a challenging October, Boro have moved up to the playoff spots and are close to getting their fourth win in the last five games. 18 goals scored in those 4,5 matches.

So happy to see him doing well. I hope he gets promoted as well. Not sure if they are good enough to come 2nd but at least stay in the playoff spots for a chance.

I think playoffs are the best they can hope for. Leeds, Burnley & Sheff Utd seem to be on another level to the rest of the league. One of them three and Sunderland will be tough to beat in playoffs.

I'd be surprised to see Sunderland keep up the pace, they look to be punching well above their weight. But it's still a tough ask for Carrick to get Boro up

How's Finn Azaz doing? Haven't seen him play 90 mins yet but has scored a few crackers this season.

If Azaz keeps that form up he'll take up the mantle of "Ireland playing this guy would fix us" mantle from Szmodics

Similar to McKenna he seems to work well with what he has and tries to stay true to his principles of attacking football. Hopefully he gets to boost the squad with recruits in the window. Unless their money broke.

How's he doing?

Couple of unusual answers above. He’s one point off the play offs with a game in hand. Middlesbrough lost their top goal scorer late in the window but they’ve replaced him with Iheanacho and Iling Junior - if they click, then I’d back them to solidify the play offs. Luck of the draw behind that point.

Hes doing very well there. This isn't Carrick bias - Boro is a tough job, they sell well but are financially very tight and could face oblivion without sales and a tight run ship. Hes had them as competitive as they could possibly be, has developed young players and spotted some very savvy loans and any boro fans I know really like him

Carrick is the real deal as coach glad he is doing well despite all challenges

He's doing a great job, they play fantastic football and are in the play off mix yet again in a very tough Championship.

Obviously some people don't watch the Championship on here.

Feel he is in a tough spot. He is doing well to keep them stable, but they clearly have no real ambition to push for the PL and are happy to sell players to get money in.

Probably needs to move to a different club, to challenge himself more.

Do you think Carrick thinks things are going well? Have you watched them? This season for their general play has dropped, nothing to do with goal scorers.

I know they are a selling club, but that doesn't mean things are going well.

They are not passing and moving the ball this season, they are struggling with the basics a lot more.

I have no doubt they would be doing worse without Carrick but things are not going well.
