No it wouldn’t. Modric plays as a proper CM and does so much more in the defensive phase. Messi maybe plays deeper than his past iterations (to accommodate his decline) but he is involved in attacks/plays advanced enough to score more than 3 league goals for the season. I mean even Fred has 3 league goals.

Modric is playing as CM as part of 3 men midfield in Real, who focus mainly on midfield play. His shot per game is 1, ranked 9th in his team.
Messi is playing as forward as part of 3 men attack in PSG, apart from playing as a support role for Mbappe, he also constantly burst into box and take a shot himself. His shot per game in league+CL is 3.3, ranked 2nd in his team and only behind Mbappe (3.9), and far higher than Neymar (2.2).
Just give you another example. Liverpool Mane has 2nd highest shot per game in his team, which is 2.6, and even less than Messi. Even though he has 18 goals this season. Is he comparable to Modric too?

He has taken far more shots per game than Neymar though. He is by far 2nd highest shooter in PSG, with 3.2 in league, 3.7 in CL. (Neymar has 2.5 in league, 1.3 in CL. Mbappe has 4.1 in league, 3.4 in CL)

You realise Messi is the 2nd highest shooter in PSG too? 3.3 shots per game this season, far higher than Neymar 2.2 shots per game.
He is one of the most wasteful/ineffective shooter in Europe this season, with a very poor return of 3 goals in 67 shots taken in the league. That's 1 goal in every 22 shots, even far worst than Rashford or Martial in terms of shooting/finishing.

Yes, and Ronaldo had a stretch of 11 straight games without a goal and he was a striker. Yes, he’s been better than Messi goal scoring wise, but Messi has blown him away in assists.
Messi’s xg on the season for expected goals is 6.75 and he’s at 3. He’s clearly shooting from much further out and tougher angles but either way I agree his finishing has been very very poor.
however, it’s flawed logic using his shots per game over neymar as when they’ve played together neymar has outshot Messi. Messi’s shots went up when neymar was injured. But when mbappe, neymar and Messi play at the same time Messi takes the least amount of shots per game.
Like Ronaldo, Messi’s assists (and Ronaldo’s goals) have come in bunches as oppose to spread out throughout the year. 40% of Ronaldo’s goals have come in just two matches. Similar for Messi’s assist numbers.
Ronaldo’s assist numbers are as bad as Messi’s scoring output but Messi is definitely underperforming when it comes to shooting.
However, Ronaldo getting 35 goals is beyond nonsense. He isn’t as clinical as Mbappe (who is out performing his xg by 5 goals on the season) And mbappe is on 21 goals with just 6 games left and been the only truly good/consistent player for psg all season. Ronaldo is far from consistent this season. Ronaldo wouldn’t even have 25 goals, let alone 35 even in the French league.

One thing I’ve realised with Messi is that whenever he has a bad game or he doesn’t score or assist, the default argument no matter how bad he played is always along the lines of “well he influences the game in other ways and dimensions beyond goals and assists and that cannot be measured by metrics.” Even when he’s fecking invisible in every way. I’ve never seen a more protected player honestly.
Ronaldo is objectively better than Messi currently and this is Ronaldo's poorest season by far. Messi has been an undeniable FLOP for PSG this season. To deny this means you're delusional and you lost all credibility.

He isnt Ronaldo level anymore but he is Lukaku level of beating the lower ability teams.
Messi should be doing better in Ligue 1. He has the ability just a few months ago to ruin the La Liga and win Copa amerida and the first club team and league outside the league he destroyed with his eyes closed he struggles even if ifs one of the easiest in top professional football.
There is ultimately no proof what soever that Messi is not just a Forlan who did well in La Liga but not in the PL because its pure guess work.
Now I will never say that Messi would fail in another league - because he is a wonderful player.
But the thing that I will always say is that I can't and won't believe that Messi will be performing GOAT level performances outside of a team like Barcelona or a League like La liga.
He would still be a fantastic player and a legendary player - but him being the GOAT of all time? Not for me.
If he spend his full career at United - I would never say that Messi would flop and be useless. But I do not believe he would be good as he was for Barcelona but for United.
