He was asked. And he firmly and directly stated that he puts the Balón D'or ahead of everything.
I think it’s quite pointless to argue which awards or trophy they care or not. But it’s quite foolish to suggest Messi doesn’t care to win CL. Of course he cares, that’s probably the biggest reason he moves to PSG. You really think he went there so that he could play in Ligue 1?
Ofcourse. But if he can't win the world cup, the Copa is second best. And judging from the the tears when he won, it's the most important trophy he's never won.
Who cares? We aren't here to speculate. The only facts are that Ronaldo's biggest ambition was the Balón D'or. That race is dead. Hence, his recent behaviour.

Yeah, it’s telling that the on field honours belong to Ronaldo while the subjective Balon Dor belong to Messi.
Err that's an opinion. But I welcome you to learn the difference between the two. For example, Ronaldo saying his biggest ambition is the Golden Ball means makes a statement attributing that to him a fact.
Take it up with Ronaldo who isn't handling Messi's balón D'or récord very well.
To be fair I heard that Mo Salah isn't happy too, not looking like it's just C Ronaldo who might be thinking this.
That's why I say Messi is an artist, Ronaldo is a scientist. Ronaldo has data and numbers and ultimately facts. Messi is more a piece of Art you look and observe and wonder over its beauty - but ultimately its still just an opinion.

There's a weight to everything in life, and if you think all he cares about is an individual trophy, then I don't know what to say. That's not to say he doesn't rank the BdOr highly.

He never said it was his “biggest” ambition. He just said it was his ambition to have more than Messi.

Exactly. He said a "record" he would want to have the most. That's different from trophies. For example, I sincerely doubt Ronaldo would prefer a Ballon D'Or to a CL or an international trophy, even a league. At the end of the day, the Ballon D'or is voted on the basis of subjective journalist opinion. Club trophies are won because you're good and nobody can take that away from you. Nobody is going to chose the latter over the former. You can ask Messi the same.
No one believed that Maldini was the best player ever because he is one of the players with most UCL. You could believe that if you saw something like Ballon d'Or in his resume as a player.
I dont doubt that but i dont think you can take away the feeling it gives a player to be crowned the best in the world. Otherwise Ronaldo wouldnt have meltdowns when Messi wins it or when he lost it to Modric.

See, we are running back in circle again.Why not just recognise the fact that, they both have their fair shares of honours/ahievements over the others, and fair share "miss" which they wish they could have won more than other.

Nobody is going in circles. We were discussing the Balón D'or race and it's important to Ronaldo. I corrected your, after which you attempted to bring up tangential arguments about UCLs.
They're both going to have records. And ideally they'd both be content with the records they have. However, given the fact that Ronaldo has repeatedly stated his number 1 focus in football was the Balón D'or race with Messi, this record hurt him more than anything, and is the reason he's behaving the way he is online at the moment, ranting and raving and scouring anti-Messi posts to comment on. To me, that's not a content individual, and given that's he's never catching Messi, that isn't going to change.
That's only you who think so. Messi also wants those CL and all time records too. Do you think its not his focus to win those? Don't be silly.
And Messi never catch Ronaldo in all of those all time records too, no matter how you pretend it doesn't matter, isn't going to change that.
I know Ballon d'ors are subjective and all but there is usually good reasons you believe a player is the best in the world that year. Like Beckham wasnt better than Rivaldo in 99.
I suppose goal records. But only accumulated, of course, not in relation to the time you've actually been on the pitch!
It's like in Olympic sprinting competitions. In the end, it obviously doesn't matter how quick you've been, it matters how many meters you've ran over the span of your career. Everybody knows that.

Your boy obviously isn't content with losing the Balón D'or race, because it's the most important record for him. And he's never going to be able to catch Messi there and hence the meltdowns.
I dont know Messi holds quite a lot of goal records as well. And assist records. Dribbling records too but no one cares about that.

I know I’d rather on the field accomplishments over votes. Messi didn’t win a single player of the month in Spain until 2016! Its all politics anyway, Spanish sides actively campaign for this nonsense

It's just like a vaccine trial-and-error; would you want one that has been tested and done most beautifully just in 1 body - or want one that proved it self in multiple bodies, in multiple locations against multiple symptoms and did it quick and sharp, by any method for any problem and is still going to this day in epic force and still on top of the individual charts?
I know who I chose. You may choose the beautiful version - but that's ultimately what's important to you, the fact that Messi does some consistency with added beauty.
For me, the beauty is not that important and that extra bit of consistency on top of arguably the most reliable player, able to do it for anywhere, any who, any time is what I value.
It's why Ronaldo and Messi will never end - we like Ronaldo for something we don't think Messi has a lot of, likewise you like Messi for something that you don't think Ronaldo has much of.
