MERGED - The 2010/2011 ASHES tour thread...all Ashes related chat here please!

Unfortunately Harris is out for the series, so England only need 3 wickets to retain the Ashes.

Thing is, you look at Australis ODI team and shake your head at just how shit the test bowling attack is.. Lee, Tait, Bracken.... Two of those are quite capable of bowling 95+ mph and prior to his 08 injury, Lee was the best pace bowler in test match cricket.

This is how it looked back in the day, Phelans.

Nice.

Tremlett gets Johnson. 2 to go (assuming Aussies don't risk Harris)...

Haddin playing some very nice shots, but I really wish they'd take the next 2 wickets so I can go to sleep.

fecking Collingwood is useless. Anyway, 50 for Haddin, well played some nice shots in there as well.

This partnership must be the biggest in both Aussie innings?

Siddle's playing very well here. Think most people, myself included, thought the game would be over by now. Especially after the early Johnson wicket.

Hopefully not too much longer till that beautiful little urn is safe for another 2 and a half years or so.

Both Aussie batmen are doing well ,playing some interesting shots , but the pressure is off , play and score some runs Aussie's will love them for holding the old enemy off for a while , play and miss and get out none of them will care , win win for the batsmen

Finally they get the breakthrough, 1 more to go...

Well played Peter Siddle, both with bat and ball he has been Australia's best player in this test match.

All over, England win the match by an innings and 157 runs and retain the Ashes.

As the Barmy Army are singing, the ashes are coming 'home'!

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant performance by England - they finally win in Australia. Humiliation for the Australians and devastating for Ricky Ponting, great player who'll be remembered for losing 3 ashes series.

All the England players performed incredibly, only Haddin and Siddle can say they played well for Australia. Now England will have to ensure they win the series, but where does Ponting go from here?

there are already call for him to be sacked , but I dont think he will be.
He is the sort of player to want to finish on a high , not like this

I don't think they'll sack him, but he really has to consider where he can go from here. Even if he somehow manages to win a 4th consecutive WC, his failure in the Ashes as captain will taint his legacy as one of the greatest batsman of all time. The only way he can rectify that is to play in the next series, but no chance he'll be around by then.

I personally feel for Ricky, a lot of people think he is a cnut of a man, but he's trying to win for Australia and win at all costs, even if he does act like a cnut sometimes. When you consider all the other great Aussie players of the past decade (Waugh, McGrath, Hayden, Warne, Gilchrist, Gillespie etc) all went out on a high note and all left the team when they wanted to, Ricky's not going to be in that position. Plus, as poor as he has been, he can hardly be blamed for the shit Johnson, Bollinger, Doherty, Hilf bowled for large parts of the series. Unfortunately for him, but I think the end is nigh and it would be better if he left himself instead of being forced out.

I do feel for him , he is the best Aussie captain I have seen and the team he has now is not the best and in fact some in the team don't deserve to wear the shirt.
I do think that if Australia beat us in Sydney and beat us well , there is a way back for him , but I dont think that is going to happen and England will win in Sydney.
Maybe its the time for him to call it a day and retire.
