MERGED - The 2010/2011 ASHES tour thread...all Ashes related chat here please!

There's a bit of swing there for Siddle, that will interest Anderson...

On the plus side Australia have tripled the number of wickets they took last time England batted.:lol:

Lunch and England in total control, 449-3. Pietersen has played beautifully & Collingwood is quietly going about his business, partnership is worth 98 runs from only 110 balls. Cook the only wicket to fall today, the Aussie bowlers again not impressing. There's a bit of swing and spin that will interest the England bowlers, who will get their chance to bowl when England declare later today.

449-3 at lunch, KP 158* Colly 40*

132-1 this session.

This is a right bum rape at the moment!

Collingwood looks in really good touch too. Good range of shots.

Australia had two runs when they were three down. England are 449 for three.

God their attack really is looking poor isn't it. Still, some great batting from us and we thoroughly deserve the lead we've created thus far.

Would be terrible to not win this test from here. Got to be 1-0. Hopefully we can keep scoring at roughly 5/over and get them in to bat in the evening session at some point.

Yeah same here, first test series i ever saw was eng vs wi in 1991. Viv richards last series, what a team - ambrose, walsh and marshall the bowlers. First ashes was 93, warne's first series.

Never seen us batter australia like this. I know it's only 3 innings we've been on top and we havent even won a match yet but we've never, in the time i've watched, looked so comfortable and they've never looked so, well, shit.

I can remember the '85 Ashes, I was 9 and obsessed with David Gower, who played mesmerisingly that series. I remember his 331 stand with Tim Robinson.

At some point, '87 I think, I went through a spell of supporting Australia :nervous:, as I'd been brainwashed by the Bodyline drama series... I still remember the theme tune to that, it was brilliant.

Collingwood out lbw to watson for 42.

Supposedly might rain soon, that'll be bedtime for me if it does.

I supported italy in italia 90 as they were the first game i saw (v austria) and i loved schillachi. These things happen i guess. Hopefully colly is the aussies wicket for the session.

How is the Australian public taking this? What a difference four years makes.

No shit, Brian. We've lost most of that squad from 4 years ago due to retirements and poor form. Piss poor selectors also is a pain in the arse.

I think only Ponting, Clarke and Hussey are the only leftovers from the same test 4 years ago. Compare that the England and the changes are minimal.

Why the feck is Stuart Clark not in this side? He's old yes but these jokers are clearly out of their element.

The pain continues... :(

As rubbish as the bowling has been...the issue in this test match, was that horrible total by the batsmen upfront.

380 was a par score, and they got nowhere close to that.

I would put our fielding skills (or lack thereof) up there in the low points category.

Clouds gathering now...heard some thunder about 10 minutes ago

Bad weather predicted over the next few days as well. All that hard work and dominance and it will probably end in a draw. Kind of makes the sport a little be farcical.

I just don't understand how the knobs at Cricket Australia let things get so out of hand...every team has a rebuilding period, and that Australia team was legendary, so obviously there was going to be a drop off.

But to not cultivate any sort of talent :(

To think poor Stuart McGill missed out being an all time great because of Warnie, and now we have Xavier Doherty as the primary spin option....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

England are so much better than Australia its actually amazing really, i thought this would be a very evenly contested series probably ending in a draw and despite the fact its still 0-0 no one can deny the better cricket has come from one side comprehensively, England look on a different planet to this Aussie side, they must have one of the worst test match attacks in the history of the game? 517-1 followed by 551-4! that's ridiculous.

Doherty, how on earth does this bloke get picked for a Test match, taking wickets at 50 a piece in first class cricket wouldn't see you get in Lancashire reserves! Bollinger looks a ever so slightly less shit version of Johnson and Siddle looks a buffet bowler 90% of the time, only Harris has looked borderline respectable to be brutally honest.

Aussies praying for Rain, knowing their luck they'll probably get it to, either way they look a very poor side compared to England right now.

So based on this series as a whole, what will happen in terms of test cricket rankings for England and Australia based on winning, losing, drawing?

Australia Win - Australia up to 3rd, England stay at 4th.
Drawn Series - Australia up to 4th, England up to 3rd.
England Win - Australia stay at 5th, England up to 3rd.

(Sri Lanka are about to drop a couple of places because of their drawn series against WI)

If England win by a couple of tests or more and South Africa lose their upcoming home series against India, England can go second.
