Media Thread

Tucker gone from Faux is definitely a great thing, yeah he will spew his nonsense and propaganda elsewhere, but won't have as big of a platform anymore.

Deplatforming works, nobody talks about Alex Jones anymore, as the best example of that.

Now, i dont think Tucker is going to "disappear" like you Alex, but you get my point.

Still a mystery to me why Tucker invited Rutger Bregman on his show. He's probably the most liberal snowflake leftist person in the world., but he thought this would be a sort of circle jerk yay we agree interview?

IIRC - Tucker thought they agreed on one issue at the time, which probably thought he could exploit by inviting him on his show to showcase a lib who agreed with a right wing position. It obviously unfolded very differently.

Fox is bigger than Tucker Carlson. O’Reilly was in that slot for years and has never reached the same magnitude since leaving.

They will probably shove that idiot Watters in the slot eventually

@Raoul If we can have a general thread about the US media, it would be very appreciated. Here is what Aaron Rupar and the NY Times pointed out as an accelerant behind Don Lemon getting fired.

Vivek is a cnut who gives a bad reputation to immigrants entering US politics. Don Lemon has been doing his very best to not call him out with an expletive with this kind of bullshit coming from Vivek's mouth.

Always loved this from Don Lemon. Quality journalism. "It's obviously preposterous, but is it really preposterous?".

Would pay to watch Don Lemon & Tucker Carson joint show, but they would have to swap talking points. Tucker Carson as a liberal talk show commentator would be hilarious.

Saw another comment somewhere suggesting a joint show called ‘Crossfired’.

Remember when people didn't realize Glenn Greenwald was a grifter?

What happened to him? seems like there was a time when he was a decent investigative reporter

This is peak Stewart. Probably on par with his mockery of Glenn Beck during his Fox days.

Reminds me of his O'Reilly takedowns as well.

Stewart accused Carlson and Begala of failing miserably in their jobs.
“You need to get a job at a journalism school,” Carlson responded.
Stewart replied, “You need to go to one.”

I'm old enough to remember the late 90s when Begala and Hitchens used to go at it on Hardball. Hitchens used to deliberately mispronounce his last name as "Mr. Begayla" to wind him up.

Old school back on CNBC. I miss Chris Matthews.

Interestingly, they've retained the same lawyer to get as much money out CNN / FOX.

I predict they will get paid their last contract (Lemon is reportedly owed $25mm by CNN) and ride into the sunset.

Lemon was fired for being annoying and having poor ratings - I don't think he comes back from that.

I don't see a clear path for Tucker either. FOX's right wing TV alternatives are all minnows, podcasting is a very crowded space, talk radio needs a lot of elbow grease and writing requires some actual original thought of which Tucker possesses little

Cringeworthy damage control. Another day in the life of the paste eater Chris Licht.

Gotta say this whole mess is the result of putting people in the wrong chairs. Don Lemon is first and foremost a guy for the late evening shows. Kaitlan Collins, I'm sorry, belongs on the field and/or at the White House. The one I would say to be totally useless is Poppy Harlow. I personally find Harlow utterly useless whenever she comes on the air; she did feck all while that prick Vivek was spouting lies on the air. Taking John Berman away from early morning shows is a major mistake when he was just perfect in doing almost only that for 10 years.

That being said, MSNBC appears to be in need of getting better TV ratings for the evening shows after Rachel Maddow moved on to only work on Mondays while Chris Hayes is just not good and Lawrence O'Donnell... well, he's 71. Hiring Don Lemon would be a home run for them.

Lemon is local news quality and shouldn’t be anywhere near a CNN or MSNBC. I can’t imagine the latter would have any appetite to tolerate his drama queenish antics after watching his slow motion meltdown at CNN.

his borderline-hysterics reaction to Bernie winning a primary and comparing it to Nazi's taking france, and sarcastically theorising he'd be executed in central park if a "socialist" won the presidency tainted any respect i had for him.

Yeah, he had his foibles, but I do miss his show (although Ari Melber's show at the 600P slot is also very good).
