I miss John Stewart. :(

Stewart: You have a responsibility to the public discourse and you are failing miserably.

Tucker: I think you need to get a job at a journalism school.

Stewart: You need to go to one.

I haven't watched The Daily Show since he left. Is it any good still?

I'd say I've watched it maybe three times since, I find Noah painfully unfunny.

Kinda hit and miss. I personally like Trevor Noah but he isn't as critical as Jon Stewart used to be.

Trevor likes to position himself as the nice guy who gets upset occasionally even before this gig. (I guess he is aware of not coming across as the 'angry black man' or coloured (S.A context) in his case.)

I imagine Carlson writes it.

I doubt his future lies with Fox, personally, unless he changes course - or, you know, America descends to the point where he can spend an hour discussing race and IQ in front of a celtic cross flag without spooking the advertisers.
Was wondering about the whole channel rather than just him. Probably the high profile ones like him and Hannity do their own material so probably do believe in it.

The problem is that there is an audience for this. There is a lot of folks who dont see anything wrong with what he is doing; To stoke fear of being overwhelmed, loss of cultural identity and the need to do something about it. And its quite a regular message -- this dog whistling.
Fox can then position itsself as the 'only' media network that brings out this 'truth' to its audience.
And it clearly is working too considering they are the most watched news channel in the States. But surely the fact that they know they have a specific kind of audience makes it easier for them to just play to their audience. But, if the last few years are any indicator, most of these hosts probably believe the bile they are spewing rather than just playing it up for their viewers.

I think most do it for the money the profile brings. Some, like ignorance personified, Hannity, probably truly believe it.
Oh money sure is a big factor. But, just wondering if there is ever a "Oh shit! Can't believe they are spouting this bullshit" moment when they read out some of the stuff.

Laura Ingrahm has had a load of sponsors bail on her show after she attacked one of he survivors of the Florida school shooting and they responded by organising a boycott. I'm really impressed by how effective these kids have been.

Amazingly, some companies have said they didn't even know they had ads during her show

 Would be amazing if they took her down in a 48 hour period.

Fingers crossed  She's obviously scared cos she's put out an apology but it got thrown back in her face.

They are the seventh company to pull their ads in the last 24 hours.

That's actually massive since it would cut her revenue by a sizeable fraction. IIRC, that's what happened to O'Reilly until they were forced to remove him from the air when there weren't enough credible advertisers left for this show.

Yeah, it actually could get her off air which would be fantastic.
It's 9 now.
Can't even keep up now

Something of that sort happened with Hannity no? But he seems to be doing ok.

These kids are an absolute force of nature. It’s a corny phrase but they really are a beacon of hope right now.

They’ve managed to mobilise millions of people into action and encouraged unity at a time when the so called adults are intent on causing division. While the adults fanny around talking about violence in video games, these kids ask the so called difficult questions to force them into conversation.

I think they’re proving the GOP is going to have to change massively if they want to stay relevant over the next decade.

I remember watching the speeches on Saturday and feeling so proud of them. Felt like witnessing major history — kind of stuff we’ll be reading anout many times intue future.

What did Ingraham say?

She listed the Univeristies that rejected his application. He responded by listing the companies that advertise during her show. 9/12 of them have now cut ties with her.

I’d also like to point this out from her “apology”:

For the record, I believe my show was the first to feature David … immediately after that horrific shooting and even noted how ‘poised’ he was given the tragedy” Ingraham

Dog whistling at its finest. A little nudge to the rabid Fox viewers who still think the kids are actors.

She also said that she's channeling the spirit of the holy week for the apology. How about you use basic decency to do it you lunatic? She touted her show in the apology as well, asking Hogg to come on her show to present her case.

I'm not sure how I feel about that little prick Gutfeld. He can be somewhat amusing in between his thickyness.

Can no one be arsed to feign interest in the 'easily offended twitter mob trying to ruin woman's career' take?

I'm not quite bored enough to try but I was hoping someone else might've been.

Another one just jumped off. At this point, the remaining advertisers are going to look pretty odd for still being attached to Ingraham' brand.

Is the trick. Get enough to fall and you can focus in on those that remain - who at that point look as if they're making some pro-Ingraham/anti-#NeverAgain stance by not pulling the plug.

Whatever the leadership of Colegate (or whoever still remains) personally think, the stockholders are unlikely to be too comfortable with alleged sympathy for some pillock on Fox News' right to mock kids being the main thing people are currently discussing in relation to their brand.

It also has a lot to do with the fact that advertisers deal with core demographic groups ranging from the ages of 18-34, who relate to Hogg and his friends, and who wouldn't take it well if said advertisers were somehow attached to Ingraham. Same thing happened with O'Reilly.

Good point.
