I follow the same logic but Lindelof would be the one I keep because he is the one that I expect to handle being a bench option better. In an ideal world Varane, Evans and Maguire are sold/freed while two youngish CB replace them. Now the identity of these two CBs depends on the price tag because in my opinion, we have a far bigger need for a starting CM and a top level wide player.
I used to be partial to Lindelof but found out he's on £170K/w while playing FM recently. If true, then sorry but I'd rather bank on one of our youth players considering how skint we are.

Injuries happen. Guys tear ACL's without any contact. You want one freak injury to torpedo a season? You need cromulent options.
And the solution is to have 120k pw Lindelof as 4th choice? He's nowhere near good enough, why do we still insist to keep giving chances to players who are not good enough when they had enough chances rather than move him on? Keeping deadwoods who don't fit the club and manager's profile only just for body is a recipe for disaster because that means manager will be forced to keep playing different set up and we will not progress as a team result in no pattern of play. If Willy isn't good enough to even be 4th option then move him on. We need to be ruthless in our rebuilding plan.

@golden_blunder

We need to promote this newbie already ;)

You go one step at a time. The point isn't to keep Lindelof forever but to have normal depth for next season. Otherwise we may as well sell everyone or free everyone in the team because they are all feckless and on inflated contracts.

Why keep defender who doesn’t have future for the rebuilding project, isn’t good in the air (means doesn’t counter our weakness who has been conceded set pieces goal), not quick (means doesn’t have the recovery pace for high line style of football) and not proactive (means he doesnt fit the manager’s style) who has been in the club for almost 7 years means he’s been given 7 years chances and already proven to be not good enough? But instead refuse to give 20 years old centre back (who might have future for the rebuilding project) a chance to be 4th option CB in the team who is not challenging the league and not going to compete in champions league.

He's just a little bit better than Lindelof currently, with more injuries.

The why is literally in the post. If you think that it's a good idea to limit your depth to three presumably solid CBs and one that has zero senior experience then that's your problem. I believe that we need to have at least 4 CB that have played more than one game in their career. Because in case of injuries, your plan could easily lead to ruining your 24-25 season.

In fact I should say that I don't really care which one of Maguire, Varane or Lindelof remains. One of them should stay if we bring two CBs. I want 4 genuine starting options and a youngster, not 3 starting options and youngster. And that Kambwala should go on loan anyway, 90 minutes at 19 years old is frankly bad.

I heard, now these could be baseless horrible, damaging rumours, that he's
got a fat dad.

If that's the case, again could just be rumours, I don't want him anywhere near the club.

Well, 1 step at a time can mean different things in a dynamic market specially if all our targets are available and we need to raise the funds.

In that case I wouldn't mind Wily being our 4th or 5th choice.

Of course but the point wasn't in the context of having to compromise. Which is why I stated that it would be in an ideal world.

Came here to basically post this.

Not really fussed who goes out of the three either, all have their clear advantages and disadvantages. But relying on Kambwala as the 4th choice over the course of a full season I think is incredibly risky. Much much better for him to go out on loan to the championship (or maybe Ligue 1) next year, to a manager that works well and trusts youth players, like Mowbray was with Amad. The plan would be then that Kambwala comes back from a successful loan, ready to be 4th choice alongside Martinez + the two new CBs we bring in this summer (or we sell Kambwala on for a decent amount).

Willy needs games and he shouldn't be wasting his career by 4 or 5th choice. He either becomes a regular starter or go out on loan where he can play. Kid has huge potential.

Are Bayern looking to get rid of or this is just using us to get a new contract? Even if he is available were trying to reset the wages here, his demands would be high.

I'd trust anyone above ETH on that matter.

Imagine if ETH signed Maguire, AWB, Dan James, Pellestri, Sancho

Do not want DeLigt anywhere near the club, hopefully the new regime sort out the recruitment before the summer

TBF seeing his injury record the last few seasons you can argue LVG was spot on.

Bayern just signed Eric Dier to fill their CB numbers. It's highly unlikely that they want to sell him right now. The only reason for a transfer would be if de Ligt doesn't like being third choice and is looking to move on for that reason.

Same era and same as Van de Beek.

Didnt cut it at Juventus.
Hasn’t cut it at Bayern.

Thankfully Ineos won’t let ETH buy another ex.

Bayern are in a much better state with their pool of CBs. The reason he isnt a starter is because they signed the CB everyone wanted in the summer

Our CBs other than Maguire this season have been playing at a mid table level

Since when did he not cut it at Juventus? Why would Bayern consider him if he didnt make it at Juventus? He isnt a undisputed starter for Bayern but he also isnt failure. Donny van de Beek has been a failure and didnt cut it. That doesnt apply to de Ligt.

My issue is that you chose the criteria of having multiple games in player’s career over the basis of the player doesn’t fit the manager and the league’s profile and the players has been proven 7 years not good enough.

The ideal thing is to sign the 3rd CB, if we can’t afford 3rd one then promote Kambwala and give him a chance to prove his worth. If we keep playing Lindelof who is proven for 7 years being not good enough, doesn’t fit the manager‘s and league’s profile then no wonder Kambwala only has 90 minutes.

If Kambwala turns up not good enough then sell him, at least we will know he is actually not good enough and he’s getting PL appearances to increase his value and the transfer fees.

Surely United will not allow Ten Hag to spend big money on yet another of his ex Ajax players? I mean, I think he could do well in the premier league, but he will be extremely expensive and it just reeks of lazy scouting.

Isn't he injured now? Huge question marks regarding his injury record.

Many people might disagree, but he has been a mediocre player since he left Ajax. If anything, I believe those days are still inflating his price. We should stay away.

You already shared your view, we disagree. Move on.

I think mediocre is going a bit far, but he's definitely stagnated. I think that last Ajax season was far better than everything after. In the other hand, he played in the Dutch league with Ajax which isnt very challenging on a defender.

For the national team he's always been average (below average even).

Will his dad even be able to fit into Old Trafford to watch him?

Could the crumbling stands even hold his weight?

I asked why you choose or have this belief in the criteria of having multiple games in player’s career over the basis of the player doesn’t fit the manager and the league’s profile and the players has been proven 7 years not good enough.

But it‘s okay we can move on if it’s a random pick based on your guts and you can’t give your reason.
