WW Head of Recruiting
Why is Ajax only asking €75 million? Surely they'd want to sell him for as much as possible? Does De Ligt have some kind of release clause, or is it a verbal agreement with the player?
Seems like a verbal agreement or mutual understanding thing. Both sides have huge respect for each other, and Ajax knows De Ligt has to move if he wants to keep improving as a player. Similar to how there was word Roy Hodgson wanted AWB to move to become a better player. Why is Ajax only asking €75 million? Surely they'd want to sell him for as much as possible? So, are you telling me it's NOT all about the money?!Seems like a verbal agreement or mutual understanding thing. It is, on the one hand, very gracious. It's also realistic - 75 mil to spend on recruiting for the Dutch league is the equivalent of 200-300 in another. So, set a reasonable price and go from there. So, are you telling me it's NOT all about the money?!
Mind blown.
Extremely gracious! I like it. A club not being a glutton for profit? I can't think of one club in the EPL that is like this. In fact, over here it would probably be a sign of weakness. It is, on the one hand, very gracious. You sure about that? You don’t ‘break the bank’ for any player. That’s why we are in the mess we are in. Because we broke the bank for Sanchez, we have to break it for Pogba, then De Gea and now Rashford.
Starting De light on 300k. Behave the lot of you. That’s how you break a club.
We never broke the bank under fergie, we never paid the highest wages and very rarely the highest transfer fees.
We got hungry players to step up. That’s what we are going back to.
It’s the right thing to do and the more sustainable thing to do.
He has, Ornstein has already reported that weeks ago.De Ligt has to have said he has no interest in coming here. It's the only explanation.
Oh right I missed that. Presumably so did the other posters saying we should break the bank for a player who has no interest in joining. He has, Ornstein has already reported that weeks ago.
Many people said it was a 2 horse race between PSG and Juve but nobody believed them, especially because of the fake ITK people.
Didn't they personal agreement with De Ligt that he can choose his next club? If that's the case they can only deal with what Juve have to offer.Ajax have several of the biggest, richest clubs willing to bid probably half that again if not more.... either BS or Ajax should laugh in Juve's face
I think our interest was genuine especially when we went in with a high offer straight away, but once the other teams offered similar money we just had nothing else to offer apart from guaranteed first team football.Oh right I missed that. Presumably so did the other posters saying we should break the bank for a player who has no interest in joining.
We need to be in this. It's clear Juve are going to struggle to afford him, therefore they've tried to appeal to the player first. This is the same club that lives off free transfers and struggled to pay past €12 million for Darmian. Their wage bill must also be extortionate.
This signing makes so much more sense than Maguire, and even if there's the tiniest chance we could hijack this deal we should be going all in.
Ajax are weird in a good way. Any other club and the list of suitors + De Ligt himself chasing the moolah would have seen the price upped to 100mil+. Juve probably the only club in the world cheeky enough to even lowball the 75mil ask
Jose that treated them bad is gone so fresh start.Of course, but I was talking about the recent examples. Depay failed miserably and Blind was treated very unfairly by Mourinho and the club.
They both might have told De Ligt to stay clear of us, that was my point, though I did admit that it sounds a bit far-fetched.
You sure about that?
Berbatov, Ferdinand, Veron and Rooney come to mind. Oh, and RVP. We "broke the bank". That poor bank. But, the players were generally worth it in the long run. Who's to say De Ligt wouldn't go on to play an equally important role? Not that we're getting him.
Quelle surprise.Dutch media reporting that Ajax told Juve to feck off with that offer, and that De Ligt will have to report for training on Monday.
Rightly fecking so. 75m euros is very fair for this lad, Juve should have no qualms in paying it if they want him.Dutch media reporting that Ajax told Juve to feck off with that offer, and that De Ligt will have to report for training on Monday.
I don't want to derail the thread. I agree on some of your points, but RVP was in his final year, so 24m was a helluva lot. 25m for a young and inexperienced Rooney could also be considered to be a bit of a bank-breaker. Fergie bought well, but we have never been shy in paying top-dollar.Veron 24.3million in 00-01 - Transfer record that year - 37 million (Figo)
Rooney - 25.6 million in 2004 - transfer record at that time was 45.6 million and we’d just sold Veron and Beckham the year before.
Rio - 34 Million in 2002 - getting higher but he was great that year and is/was a class act.
Ruud- 19 million in 2000 - British record - I’ll give you that one!
RVP - 24 million in 2012 - world record at that time was 80 million. He was a bargain.
Would argue that in a global context we never broke the bank. We certainly didn’t do crazy wages. Every player took the hit to come to a club like United. They weren’t on a fiver an hour but they could have earned more elsewhere.
I would note that those buys all turned out very well for us. Veron a notable exception. It shows that we identified who we wanted and got them or we waited (Ruud). We didn’t panic buy.
We also bought people like Ole, Vidic and Evra who every one would be gurning about today because they weren’t expensive or flashy enough. They however did fit the system.
Part of the problem is how Ajax have framed themselves as being honorable and not letting price dictate or rather pressure where he moves. You have to admire Juve's cheekiness here. 75m euros is a bargain and no-brainer for De Ligt when the likes of Harry Maguire cost over 80m pounds, and they come in with 50m + bonuses offer. Aren't they afraid Ajax will simply stop negotiating after this insulting bid?
This is our chance. And we're letting it go. Now is your time, Woody. Bring the dough.Dutch media reporting that Ajax told Juve to feck off with that offer, and that De Ligt will have to report for training on Monday.
Agreed. Such a shame that we're in weak position currently, because it's not often that a generational talent is available at a discount price.Part of the problem is how Ajax have framed themselves as being honorable and not letting price dictate or rather pressure where he moves.
Thing is, even if you set the price at 100mil, there would still be a choice. It's important for Ajax to realize that, and maybe they do. However, the prices being floated around seem like a gross underpayment going by today's market prices and his brand.
