People are off their tits if they think that the only offer or contact directed the way of De Ligt is from United. Total dogshit.

Terms will have been offered from all over the place, through various avenues, months ago. The very idea that he still doesn’t know where he’s going is preposterous, never mind that. Whichever club gets a hold of De Ligt already knows about it and probably has done for a long time.

Why are people taking this random guy as gospel?

They said he was a Barcelona certainty.
Then it was PSG
Then it was Juventus.

Now it's no one has a deal bar us?

Utter garb. They're still in the dark totally.

Pretty much this. If indeed ours is the only offer on the table, that means he's coming here as it'd imply we are the only ones who matched his wage demands. No player is gonna reject a 10 time increase in his salary because he doesn't want to go there. I know Ornstein is considered reliable but this news makes no sense.

Came from David Orstein, BBC, tier 1 and has never been wrong to date. Always a first, granted, but very unlikely he would have made it up.

It does make sense if he's waiting for other clubs to match his wage demands. There isn't written that he categoricly ruled us out, only that he doesn't want to go to us. Nothing wrong with that if the options are Juventus, PSG, Barca and others.

Actually, it came from someone who claims he said it.

Anyhow, there's no way it would be true.

It’s posturing from somewhere. Potentially even from United itself. Any briefing that has gone out in relation to De Ligt and United has remained, in the English press, the same party line. That line is that De Ligt is (of course) of interest, however he will be going elsewhere. Whoever is happy to pedal that keeps doing so, and whoever they are will have their reasons.

But that news in isolation... not a chance. Ornstein is doing his bit for somebody here, that’s all.

Ornstein is a random guy? Okay, now I've heard it all

The other guy was the "random" guy.

Who was quoting Ornie, Who himself has been "told" the info.
Doesn't say from who, and who is to say it's true? Like a game of Chinese whispers.

The press have shown nothing else bar not having a clue the way the team in the driving seat has constantly moved.

Ornstein is the most credible and reliable journalist in British football though. If he's been "told" the info, then you can rest assured that he didn't get that info from some random ITK but from trusted sources (which, of course, he wouldn't disclose publicly).

I'm not saying Ornstein can never be wrong, but you simply won't find a more trustworthy source than him.

He's a journalist, he is 'told' all his information. He doesn't receive the information through telepathy. He's someone who is very well sourced and rarely, if ever, gets shit wrong. It was always a pipe dream to suggest one of the most sought after players in World football would be keen on a team that has consistently proven it doesn't have any sustainable plan or vision moving forward. We've had almost a decade to sell our 'project' to players now. It's been nothing but disappointment.

He can earn just as much, playing in a better environment at teams that have shown they know how to win and build on success. The same way you or I wouldn't join a faltering, shite business. It's a dream to suggest we are an attractive proposition to him.

If his reported demands are true, Barca and Juve won't be matching that, so there won't be an offer from them two. And if PSG were to offer, why haven't they done it already? I think this news is b*llocks as it makes no sense on so many levels. Its a line that's been fed to Ornstein from someone.

If the bottom paragraph is true, how can he possibly only have a deal on the table from us then?!

I think the club has done the briefing, so it looks like we tried to get the signing done but it just wasn't going to happen. Since no-one on here got their hopes up anyway, then none of us should really be disappointed about this news. Right?!

Depends on what we’re offering him and how much other transfer business we’re doing this year. If we actually going to go mental and make some great buys then he’ll want to be part of that. If Pogba leaves, it leaves a vacuum for someone to be the face of the new Utd if he’s marketed properly (which shouldn’t be a problem since our board knows nothing but that at times).

Current ITK champion Xisimon even made mention of potential interest on his Twitter timeline, despite originally saying Koulibaly was our target.

Lots of variables to consider, agent is a cnut that most clubs don't like working with, his fees etc. Still think PSG will pay up and he'll move there at the end of it.

He won't earn as much going to most other clubs, but he will still earn comparable money and is still very young. His wage will increase dramatically over time at those clubs. It's just not a sensible decision to come here.

All top players in recent times that have moved here have ended up regretting it, he won't be any different.

why would the club leak that a player openly rejected them? Because there isn't enough negativity flying around already? ;)

I can believe the part about him turning us down, but he must have received a number of offers. I guess it's possible that Raiola turned down all other offers because he thought they were too low.

The non-starter is over.
This, don't get how people were getting worked up, the journalists saying we were in pole position or whatever, have always been unreliable.

Need a thread name change to "no" to Barca & United. Or just United, I think he'll choose Barca eventually, the delaying might have been enough time for Barca to free up more funds selling Andre Gomes and Cillessen.
