This entire transfer has become a circus, so it's obviously United. Juve, PSG and Barca are much more efficient in their transfer business and would have had this entire thing wrapped up by now. It's obviously Woody wanting to unveil AWB and De Ligt together and break the social media interactions that were set by Alexis. Classic Ed move.

That makes zero sense, considering Barca fecked this one up and neither of the other two have sealed this deal.

Maybe he sits it out for one more season at Ajax... not as if time’s against him. We might have a Champions League spot next summer with a rebuild in progress and clearer idea of what we can realistically offer him.

Correct. United
 I love your optimism!

To be fair the lad should come to us. No better place to test himself than at present United. Doesn't have to worry about money etc. If he wants CL football he just has to make sure he doesn't let the goals in. Simples:D

My post was intended as a joke/sarcasm. But to answer your post, Barca didn't feck this up. They refuse to enter a bidding war and have instead stood their ground otherwise De Ligt would have signed by now.

This is one option we can all say with utter certainty, that will not happen

So the press reckoned Barcelona.
Then it became PSG
Then it became Juventus.

Each step seemingly certain.
Each step proving not to be the case.

Who next....

Ah, sorry. Long day.

And getting millions that should in fact go to the player, simply he is a parasite.

Nonsense. Despite what us fans that look on from the outside think, he’s a very successful agent. He makes an absolute mint because he profits from all three parties.

He:

A. Works for the selling club to demand a huge fee
B. Works for the buying club to ensure his player goes to them.
C. Works for the player to ensure their profile is sky high and they get above market rate.

Often he also:
D. Gets hot young players to sign for clubs so they can benefit from their development before selling for a massive fee.

It’s nonsense to think he’s ripping off players, they hire him because he looks after them.

So if there truly is a wage battle between Juve (10M gross) and PSG (16M gross), what did United offer in gross wages?

According to a number of sources we were made aware months ago that he was not interested and so despite the media links we apparently did not make a bid or talk to him or his agent. That could be United spin to cover up the fact we fear he is going to turn us down but looking at the way we have approached the market so far this summer I can well believe we were never in for him.

I’m not saying he’s ripped ngoff players, but I simply can’t see what he does that benefits his clients. He only in a job because clubs and players allow him to do so, players are just lazy in using him, it’s crazy. If I wanna as a player I would want much more control of my carrier than he allows.

I agree. United is a no-lose proposition given his age. History, money, chance of becoming a cult hero because of low starting base (No CL). All he needs to do is to help United qualify for the CL and he will be hailed a success. If United fail to qualify for CL, he will be able (if he wants to) to say that he would like to move to a club playing CL football (for footballing reasons).

It's all blah blah blah until he actually signs for someone.

The quote from Woodward last year about spending 100 million on Varane got me thinking...De Ligt is as close to that kind of young, class player as you get. This is an opportunity to do what he has said he would. And that made me remember the early interview with De Ligt about the United link with ridiculous salary that he even blushed about and laughed off. Around the time he was liking United photos. Since then the attention has gone to other clubs. But I think that's to keep it interesting. If all we had was that and the reports from a salty Barca, we'd be betting seriously on utd

16M salary for such a young defender from Ajax? This is insane.

Agent plays a huge influence in players career now.

Agents don't work on contract, they work on commission. Any of Raiola's players, at any moment, can tell him to feck off. If they don't it's because they are happy with letting him negotiate on their behalf

Well clearly you're wrong. If he didn't benefit clients, he'd be out of a job. I hate this age of super agents as much as anyone else, but it's ridiculous to think that he's not benefitting his clients in a massive way.

How though? I mean a player of De Ligt’s calibre doesn’t need selling to clubs. Is it simply about that extra £50k a week?

Football clubs are happy to fleece players, agents know what his the market value while most people don't, players included. Also nowadays agents deal with all the legal part as well.

If you had the choice of getting 80k a week, or 110k a week and a signing on bonus of £3m what would you choose?

It's just so stupid, i can't believe clubs have allowed it to get so out of hand with what they're offering him. I bet he never expected that going into these negotiations.

He honestly should not even get close to 10. More like 5, if the competition is crazy maybe 7.

10+ just after contract renewal when he has sucessfully proven himself at the highest level.

But we are talking about 16 straight away here. I think Lewandowski, a proven world class star player, is top earner in Munich with 15. This is just ridiculous. Clubs should back away from that in my opinion.

And i am still not even convinced that De Ligt will be as good as most people expect him to be.

Who next....

Since Hummels was sold and Boateng is likely to leave aswell, Bayern could join too.

Media in Germany were always linking him to Bayern anyways. But i am 100% sure Bayern won't pay such an insane salary so this is not going to happen.

But why cant the player do that on his own? I know what Riola does, what I want to know is how?

Players do not network, they don't talk all year long with hundreds of clubs/agents/sponsors and they have no particular information that they can use in a negotiation.

Exactly this.

People need to get over that agents are bad. Yes there good and bad agents, however, the buck stops with players.

And anyway, Raiola isn't even De Ligt's agent. He has been brought in to facilitate a move with good financial terms.

Well no. Raiola is the one negotiating on De Ligt's behalf, therefore he's his agent

Because he obviously has a special ability to take no for an answer, if it was that easy everybody would be doing it.

Imagine trying to squeeze that out of Levy etc? can't be easy.

Not legally, no.
Yes. Legally, players can't have agents anymore, not so long as they are contracted to a club affiliated with FIFA.

Legally, agents nowadays are third party negotiators.

He is a̶ ̶R̶o̶n̶a̶l̶d̶o̶ ̶f̶a̶n̶ a Manchester United fan!

"Like recently, when I had dinner with my football friends from the past. Adidas had organized that. There were also childhood friends and we recalled our childhoods. We came to the conclusion that I always wanted to be Cristiano Ronaldo when we were playing football in the garden. That was especially in his time when he played at Manchester United. My first football shirt also belonged to him from that time. That dinner was just after the meetings with Juventus, in which I had to fight duels with the same Ronaldo. Something like that remains special. "

But surely if a club is paying said agent millions in *commision* thisnis money that could go to the player?

Ronnie was made in Manchester, the lad needs to follow in his footsteps:drool:
:D

Ornstein just said on 5 Live that we were the only club to put down a tangible offer to De Ligt but he said no to us. I'll try to find a link when there's a story written, but that should put the nail in the coffin.
