Yeah I definitely like him as a squad player. Dont think he'll ever be quite good enough to be an automatic choice, but having a back up fullback who can play at a similar level on either flank is basically perfect for cover. Doesnt get many injuries either.

People suggesting Varela as a player to replace him are crazy, okay he's great going forward but positionally he's all over the shop.

Fantastic attacking defender, dreadful at defending.

Maybe with Mourinho's miraculous physios. Under LVG last season, it's ridiculous we almost subbed off a FB or two every game, Darmian is not exempt from that.

He has been underwhelming to say the least. So far he has been under par and shown that he is not good enough unfortunately.

You can hope that he suddently steps it up a level or two, but i'm not sure he has it in him. He has been better as a LB weirdly enough.

With Mkhitaryan drifting inside from the right a lot, it's important that we have a good attacking RB to provide the width. I think we will have to look somewhere else.

As much as I can defend him in game like vs Tottenham with his positional discipline, I agree with others that he is not suited for this league due to his natural attributes/game. So very unlikely he can suddenly make a big step up, which means he have to improve his weaknesses

Shaw has had a major injury set back and is a kid! Darmain isn't a kid and hasn't had a leg break! Plus Shaw is much better from what I have seen its just that he will take time after the injury.

I acknowledged the age gap. The leg break is largely irrelevant to my point though. To me, Darmian is currently performing better at right back than Shaw is at left back. That's all I'm saying. Not anti-Shaw. I think he's a talented lad.

Currently performing at RB? Correct me if i'm wrong but i don't think he's played at RB (bar last night) in about 6 weeks since the Fenerbache game.

Darmian is better in those departments but not by much to be fair.

West Brom 0:2 Man Utd
You can't win a title with this guy in your starting 11, garbage defender

Done nothing wrong so far whatsoever. Carrick, Herrera, Pogba, Rooney, Valencia all worse than him tonight.

What game are you watching ? Rooney's been pretty shit at covering but smacked the bar and Valencia helped set up the goal

This is actually one of his better performances.

Beginning to think Jose is playing him to motivate Shaw. "This is the guy keeping you out of the team" I mean Shaw makes mistakes too but he's so much braver, and is born to play in the PL, unlike Darmian.

What has he done wrong exactly?

Rooney smacked it at Foster he didn't actually hit it at the bar.
They're having far too much joy on that right hand side Tony has struggled for me, Herrera isn't helping though.

Rooney and Darmian as a left wing combination, 8 years ago we had Ronaldo and Evra, 20 year ago Giggs and Irwin.

He's been fine. Hopefully he and Rooney can continue to lock down that side with Dawson looking their biggest threat.

An average defender who can do a decent job with limitations.
Shooting is one of those limitations, that miss was awful. Would have been hilarious if that had been an assist.

One of his best halves honestly, he's done well defensively.

For me he has been played through on too many occasions, Rojo and Rooney mainly but also Pogba have had their work cut out covering for him. He has this cowardly tactic to move into (hide) the CB position when their RM has it, rather than meeting the attacker and making a block or tackle. West Brom are very dangerous from crosses and for me he needs to do much more to prevent them as I have a feeling we will concede from his side due to his failures as mentioned above.

Its the fullback, AND its tactical we do it every game with our fullbacks

I think he does go a bit too central sometimes but it seems a lot of our fullbacks do the same especially when defending a lead. I wouldn't say he's been troubled too much so far though, he's never going to be any good going forward on the left unfortunately.

Doing well defensively this half so far

Better on the left than the right

He offers more than Shaw and Blind even if he is less talented, he helps more the cbs

The amount of times people went past him today... Apparently that was much better mind you, and I suppose it might be, considering it's not difficult to be better then rubbish.

He was alright defensively today which isn't saying much, we were in complete control. As usual going forward he was abysmal. Thankfully most of the team have realized theres no point in passing the ball to him, especially in the first half.

I'm not a fan but he was okay today. It is with worth mentioning that He was up against possibly the least threatening right winger in the shape of Chris Brunt.

Absolutely bizarre decision from Pulis to play Phillips on the left and Brunt on the right. As soon as they brought on an actual winger in Leko, Darmian went back to being skinned.
