Matt Judge resigns from role as Manchester United’s Head of Corporate Development

The most relevant point of that article from our POV going forward is the contrast drawn between the micromanaging at United (where our deals were slowed by our principal negotiator having to constantly check back with the real decision makers and recruitment team) and the Chelsea negotiator being empowered to be more decisive and swift.

In which case when we replace Judge it can't just be a personnel change, it has to be a change in how we actually operate in negotiations.
True. The fact that the Glazers haven't stood in the way of these changes suggests that they realise (or have been successfully persuaded by Arnold) that change would be to their advantage.

And people keep dumping on Rangnick. The guy has done an incredible service to this club by holding it accountable for years of gross negligence and incompetence.

Was Matt Judge the one who apparently couldn’t be contacted on possible or potential transfers because his phone was turned off? I think it was Evra who said it
The very same.

Also the same twat who had a meeting with (rumoured to be) Meunier and his agent. He didn't know anything about him, asked him his name and the number of appearances he had made. The agent promptly ended the meeting.

There needs to be a set budget for the footballing operation to do with as they wish. Only if they need more than that should sign off be required.

Whitwell is saying judge was the go to guy for agents but I’m fairly sure I’ve read before that agents struggled with knowing who to go to and Murtough would be handling that in future. I’m certain Whitwell is the one who said it too. It’s incredibly odd that after years of saying we have a confused structure that when we’re getting rid of people the very same journalists are saying we’re in turmoil.
It isn't odd at all. For the press, the best United news is the bad news.

Media make it out like this is dramatic for us in a negative way, but by all accounts this seems like a step in the right direction.

2016/17 (Mourinho): Bailly, Mkhitaryan, Pogba IN w/Zlatan on a free

Player identification, player recruitment, player salary, contracted player movement (in/out), etc. Judge has played a powerful role and it's be extremely inefficient.
Didn't Mkhitaryan and Zlatan share an agent with Pogba? If so, there's your explanation for those two. Three for the price of one; absolute bargain.

I rather think you're overestimating the part Judge played in all of the bolded, but that won't stop me celebrating his departure.

It's hard to say if any of these moves behind the scenes are good or bad. We literally have no idea if any of these people are good or bad or were held back by others or whatever else.

A thing that is notable is that Judge was in charge of transfer negotiations and contracts since 2014... Not a great period. But we don't know if he made the decisions to go forward with things or stop, etc, or was just instructed to handle financial discussions without being the decision maker. It's a very important difference.

Anyway, time will tell if all these changes are for the better. Internally they can tell what changes are needed better than us from the outside obviously.

Good video summing up Judge last summer.

Someone focused just on football negotiations and not having it as an after thought to the commercial stuff will be key.

Why was Head of Corporate Development negotiating players transfers? Doesn't he have other important stuff to do?

Ownership has always supported the team with money. They have given the money. These incompetent people spent it on dross.
Ownership must surely also be supporting these changes, otherwise they wouldn't be letting them happen. Presumably Arnold has their trust.

I thought Arnold did most of that anyway?

Isn't he divesting himself of the football stuff because he's prepared to admit he'd be crap at it (unlike Woodward, who seemed to think he wasn't) and so he can concentrate on the spicy wontons

Good point, Richard Arnold certainly looks like a man with a laser like focus on all the foods of the world, spicy or not.

may as well just announce everyone who has been at the club post fergie to say 2021 is fired. full cleanout.

Liverpool owners are not any different with Glazer but they have the right people running the football club while we had whoever our chief scouts used to be, Judge and Ed.

Should we ask James to ask his source to ask Phil Mitchell to ask AS Monaco if he can come and work for us?

Get van der Saar now.
Oh? Is Arnold also leaving? I didn't know that. Cause Van der Sar has nothing to do with the football side of Ajax, he's their CEO.

(Also, why do so many people write 'Saar' and 'Haag'? Autocorrect?)

Van Gaal probably had something to do with it.

Played as big a role as Woodward in the last 9 years of failure and mismanagement, good riddance. I feel a small twinge of hope but I won't be fully optimistic until I see who his replacement is.

Were there any reports suggesting that he was incompetent at his job or is he just getting it because our club structures completely failed as a whole?
