Mathys Tel | talks with Bayern back on?

He was signed as a striker by Bayern, but rarely got to play there as Lewandowski and Kane are always available. So he got time on the wing. I don't think it is really decided where he will end up
Lewandowski left the same window that Tel joined Bayern, so the former was never an impediment on the latter's game time.

Also, Tel didn't get much game time between those two either, with only 600 minutes in season 22/23 when Bayern did not have an undisputed top tier striker permanently available.

Does he play striker (No 9 ) as well ? some fans seem to think so
I thought hes a left winger only.
can someone confirm please.

From what little I know about him I understand 9 was what he would finish as but as was once the done thing didn't players start on the wing as part of their development?

Sorry to bring the name up but wasn't that the plan for Greenwood?

He was around when Lewa was there?! How old was he

Watch some actual matches, Garnacho is currently head and shoulders above
Garnacho has had more development a lot more senior match time, he is extremely 1 footed, his finishing & decision making is hit or miss, admittedly I haven't seen a lot of Tel but whilst right footed he can actually use his left pretty well, his finishing is generally less wayward and he looks a bit faster than Garna.

Not saying Tel will be great or even better than Garna but the whole stat wheel thing was a bit daft given the complete difference in the players.

Tel has played/can play as a left/right 10 and 9 to good effect, he is not a winger, Garna has only ever looked great as an out and out winger, I prefer him right but inverting players seems to be the only thing to do these days (gimme a right footed player on the right and a left footed player on the left, can you imagine Beckham in modern football? all those lovely crosses would be missing)

Maybe it's just me but is he a little Mane like in some of those youtube compilations. Obviously better in the air because he's taller of course

Tel looks more technical also.

He seems like a Rashford-esque wide forward rather than a more creative 10. Not sure what Amorim’s ideal is in those spots.

Rashfords game was very dependent on explosive pace. I think this guy isn't a LW, one of the Bayern posters here also said he's not quick enough or as good in 1v1s to be a LW.

He's not really that much better, if at all
To be entirely fair, he has very little game time to judge him by, especially in terms of playing regularly. It's possible that that does him wonders.
But like you, I am sceptical. Imho he'd fare the best as a second forward on the left, something very few clubs play. As a solitary CF I imagine he won't do well.

I don't know why there are constant mentions about him on a 10 in this thread. He's originally a striker and has been a winger mostly at Bayern. He's never been a 10. So yes of course he doesn't look like one.

I’d like to see this one on loan so the club can assess him over that period. His profile looks very similar to Alexander Isak, with people having the same sort of concerns as were noted for him.

It seems like a no brainer if you can get him in on loan and get a chance to look up close.

How many times do I need to say this, we are all in for a striker in the summer without a doubt
Are we? And do you have faith that we will get an appropriate level one?

Because we have been for the last 2 summers and have managed to spend 120 million on a pair who lack several of the key attributes needed to be one.

Whether we are in for a starting striker in the summer or not, the fact remains we need options now as we are still in the fa cup and europa.

If we get Tel as loan with option it can only help our options.

Tired of seeing our bench every game and wondering who could come on to change the game.

So we replace a 23 and a 21 year old with a 19 year old, hoping for more goals?

I think the one thing he has over both Hojlund and Zirkzee is aerial ability and movement. He's very raw, but for a 19 year old he is quite strong and good in the air, and he does a decent job creating movement for himself and others. That is something both Hojlund and Zirkzee really struggle with.

A loan deal with an option to buy would make sense, and then reevaluate in the summer whether to keep him, or go for Gyokeres (who will be cheaper then).

He can't possibly do worse than our current strikers anyway. Their stats are horrendous.

Good to see so much positivity about him in this thread, same people will soon complain if Arsenal get the best out of him instead of us

I'm a bit on the fence about it. He wasn't on anyone's wish list for coming here.

But he pushed for a move because he believes in himself and wants to play. He rejected a permanent move to spurs and wants to come to us. So he's cleared motivated and believes he can be a success here. He will have seen the Rashford situation and would therefore know to be a success is to do what Amorim wants and work for the team.

If we can get a reasonable option to buy it seems like a potential chance to find something new with little risk.

Yeah I do have faith on that, remains to be seen who that is going to be though. Gyökeres will be the top target but whether we get him is another thing.

I don't anymore.

We had two windows where there were talented strikers with great goalscoring records going and we followed the 'data' and got subpar options. I think we'll see the same here.

All good for a loan as there is near to zero risk, but i don’t really like the idea of developing a player for Bayern and then returning him back six months later
Not really about that; we have aspirations of winning trophies this season, especially the very winnable Europa League, which is a ticket to the CL. Just imagine if we managed that in an abject season where we were nowhere near even 5th, let alone 4th. It would be enormous for the club.

We need as many players who can give us something for the remainder of this campaign as possible, what happens thereafter isn't particularly important. Besides, if Tel came here and was a key contributor to us pulling something amazing off, he'd be bought. It's a win-win as far as the club is concerned.

So the players want to join us? Even over Arsenal who have been in contact with the players agents etc.

What's the logic in this sentence? What if the 19 year old in the scenario was until recently seen as the best striking talent in France in years and the 21 year was in the furthest leftmost bottommost corner of this graph and takes less than a shot per game?
