Mathieu Debuchy

The Barcodes are doing bloody alright raiding Ligue 1 like this - and at 7M, it's a bit of a steal for a player who performed well at the Euros.

I'm sure if we showed interest the price would have automatically been 15-20M.

Yep, very good at such deals.

Have Newcastle nicked one of Wenger's French scouts or something?
Wenger seems to focus on signing younger players, train them up and hope the fans can trust them as much as he does. Before, he would get away with signing an Anelka because legislations weren't in place to stop him from doing so.

Newcastle have done well in signing the best players from mid-table/aspiring teams.

Simpson would be good backup? Do Newcastle have to sell?

Also I remember Newcastles last great signing after a decent international tournament

G'ivarch

Was a bit of a disaster

On the personal terms are left for discussions. If it happens, it'll be another relatively cheap and very good player for Newcastle.Debuchy is made for the PL with his style of play

Simpson wants a bigger contract closer to the rest of the current starting XI. He's not worth it so we're selling now with a year left to run and buying a replacement. Simpson would make a rubbish squad player anyway considering he can exclusively play just the one position.

We have a rule not to sign players based on international tournaments. Debuchy will be signed on extensive scouting done over his time at Lille not on a couple of decent games at the Euros (and a couple of iffy ones too).

He's not all that and the bag of chips as you say, so whats making you think someone will give him the wages he wants? I'm sure any small club that comes in will say this is the best we can offer meaning x amount, but your certain to start almost all games.

He may just get through the season at that rate and leave for free next year.

He wants around 30-40k. Reading/QPR/West Ham/whoever will give him that.

Ben Arfa was already a bit of a twat. I remember we were linked with him quite heavily a few years ago along with Benzema but his attitude put us off.

Going on strike to push through a move. Maiga did it mid-season, Ben Arfa and Debuchy both refusing to train until they get the move.

Funnily enough Ben Arfa has been absolutely sound since he arrived here considering his reputation etc.

He has another tantrum in him, though. If Chelsea or someone like that bid for him I reckon he'd start acting the prick again. For a guy like that Newcastle will never be a big enough club (in his head).

Yep, there's always a chance. He's always going to be a bit unstable, but that's probably why he's here and not somewhere else. Signing problem players can be to a massive benefit of the buying club if it works out because they represent value for money. I read that our final purchase fee was something ridiculous like 2 million euros, healed leg and a better attitude later and he's worth 10 times that.

Thankfully the imperfections will put off big clubs until he stays fit and proves it consistently for a few years. Why would say Chelsea bother with him when they can afford a premium for somebody like Hazard who is more proven, more consistent, more reliable etc etc. Anyway he seems quite happy now, his last 6 months is the most consistent spell he's had in his career.

Lille have bought Djibril Sidibe from troyes, sparking the speculation that Debuchy might be on his way out.

Where do you guys think he will go?

Newcastle looks nailed on but i it's at the low fee which is rumoured as being then I wouldn't be surprised if another club hijacked the deal. Arsenal or Chelsea could do with a new RB.

I find it hard to believe that no-one else is apparently in for him at the price being quoted.

Chelsea badly need a new RB.

Good, Danny Simpson will not be MOTM against us anymore.

Got to love how his agent was on twitter last season claiming Simpson was the best right back in the league, far better than Rafael after a few good games. Look at how shit he looks now.

He's shit and always has been. Probably spent boxing day with his mates in Manchester laughing about the game. fecking useless prick, completely stolen a living.

As have the rest of them this season. 7 bastard goals, never been so disgusted.

Good signing.

Good riddance Simpson you sorry excuse for a footballer.

Good signing for Newcastle but I'm a bit surprised that he's moving there right now. They look very shaky and will probably finish in the bottom half this season (I don't believe they'll be fighting relegation though, they'll stay up comfortably) and I think some of their best players will leave (although Cisse won't find a better club that easily after that run of poor form, last year I'd have him down for a big money transfer).

Still, Cabaye moved there when Newcaste were a solid mid-table side with virtually no views of doing any better, after winning the league with Lille, effectively giving up on Champions League football. The lure of Premier League and big money is too big a factor for those players to turn down.

Now they need a striker to replace Ba in case he leaves. Remy is an option they were looking at.
