Rafael is nowhere close to ready for the big stage and we do need cover at RB.
That doesn't answer my question. Never in any sense that it has anything to do with the article of him watching whoever player at the Lille game
Your answer is simply that the only notion of us having interest in him came from the media. Therefor there is no proof and it was likely made up. Scout at a game does not equal interest in one of the 22 players. It equals to scouting. We have loads of scouts. The media only recognizes 1 or 2 in sight.
So what we are trying to do is replace a long term player, who is still young and has the potential to be a fecking great rightback in rafael with a 26 year old player that isnt really the best right now? Ok.
And that still doesn't answer my question
You are a tad weird really
Strange thing to say given he's performed so well against the big teams so many times.
If there's one position I'd say we're weakest, it's right back.

What do you mean isn't really the best now? He's a better right back than Sagna for my money and he'll have his regular place in that France side soon after the Euros if not before, IMO, and Sagna'd be first choice right back for us so it'd be an improvement.
Debuchy started the last game against Germany, set up both goals and played well in general but I don't think that'll be enough and Sagna's still probably first choice for the time being.

In fairness though, it wasn't just some random scout, it was Fergie himself. Yes, we have scouts all over the world, watching all kinds of players in all kinds of positions from all kinds of teams and countries, but Fergie doesn't go and scout them all himself. He usually watches after he's received good reports from his other scouts. That's the whole point in scouting. Scouts scout, report back, if we take an interest then we look at them closer. Fergie going to watch could constitute us looking at someone closer. Doesn't mean we'll sign anyone, doesn't indicate who is being looked at, but Fergie being in France a day before we play a game would suggest he was taking a closer look at someone.
SAF being at the game definitely means interest but SATA was referring to Nathanial Clyne, the Crystal Palace right back. Only interest in him has come from the media and twitter so I'm obviously skeptical that anything will happen with that lad. It's like with psychics. Guess enough and you'll be right sometimes.
Aye true enough. A Crystal Palace fan on a Palace forum says he knows someone who knows Willifred Zaha and Zaha says he thinks Clyne is United bound so it's a goer for me.
Anyway, never heard of this Debuchy geezer, is he any good?
Yea, the twitter guy that's intent recently on him joining heard it from a guy that knows someone around Clyne. It sounds very much like the whisper game to me but Clyne would fit the bill. Contract out in the summer so value and that.
I know Debuchy by name and I know him from FM. For the record, as Lille, I didn't purchase a new right back. I've only seen him recently in the Germany - France game where he was very good but I can't give an opinion on him.
Doesn't debuchy play in the midfield as well?
On Football Manager maybe. In real life he's a right back.
I've read he began his career in midfield, where he played as a deep-lying playmaker.
I've read his wiki too! Not sure calling him a deep-lying playmaker's right although I can't be sure, I can't imagine him playing that role given his playing style. Seems much more likely that he was playing Balmont's role as an energetic right-sided centre mid, I've a brief memory of him playing that role v us when Giggs scored the quick free kick with Bodmer as the holding mid.

He actually used to be a midfielder. Able to play in the middle and wide.On Football Manager maybe. In real life he's a right back.
While CM should be given first priority we do need a fullback to be honest. Out of 8 defenders 3 are injury prone 2 of which are fullbacks.
Don't see why. We've got Raf, Fab, Smalling and Jones; and Valencia can do a good job there at a pinch.
As somebody said, in midfield we've got Carrick, and a 37, soon to be 38, year old Paul Scholes, and a broken-down Brazilian, and a player suffering from a chronic, debilitating disease, and the unproven Cleverley, and a 19 year old with one foot in and one foot out of the club.
Edit: I overlooked the soon to be 39 year old Ryan Giggs.
And at right back we have an unproven Jones, Smalling whose a centre back, Fabio whose a left back, a right winger and a injury prone youngster.
We need a left back, not a right back.

If he settles well he'll quickly show himself to be the best right back in the league. Hard as nails but intelligent too.
Not much competition for that accolade, mind you.
