Matheus Cunha £62.5m release clause

He wasnt great, but he was miles better in the 2nd half and won a freekick turning Fredricson and with Lindelof panicing. Wolves scored the freekick. He also had a nice pass out onto the right that came to nothing
Well that's not difficult...

He was very good in the away game, particularly running from deep, but did nothing special today. He'd start for us right now, but isn't what we need. Certainly not for that money.

60m is too much for a player who has character problems and has had an inconsistent career. He just smells like a player who'd turn shite the moment he wears our jersey. I would rather get Cherki or any other younger no.10 and get a proper CF (or even two) because there we have a huge problem.
Spot on

Would he start though? I mean if we wanted a player who’s gifted but doesn’t work hard enough, we’ve already got one at Villa!

Looked like he didn't care. He is happy to do something if you get the ball at his feet otherwise he is happy to let the game drift by him. I was not impressed.

He definitely goes to ground easy...he must have Neymar as his role model.

I totally agree. Another warning sign is that he really outperforms his xG my a large margin, he is on 14 goals with a xG of 7.3. Things like that happen over a season but usually they don't last.

He has a good shot from outside the box. That naturally will lead to an xG overperformance as long shots have a low xG. Somebody recently posted the highest xG over performers in Europe over the past decade in another thread. It was - besides Messi - many free kick and long shot specialists like Calhanoglu, Payet or de Bruyne (I guess Messi is also a free kick and long shot specialist but they aren't as high a percentage of his overall shots as for the others).

Do you take Cherki or Cunha over Garnacho? If yes, which one is you prefer between Cherki and Cunha?

Do you also sell Mainoo and replace him with a speedy AM?
I would take Cunha over Garnacho.

I think Garnacho has higher ceiling as a footballer. But in this no 10 system, Cunha’s profile is much more suitable. I don’t think Garnacho fits the profile of L10 or R10 and his style of play is a winger. It’s going to be difficult for Garnacho to reach his ceiling if we keep playing him in this no 10.

What I know about Garnacho is that he’s not very good in tight space. When he receives the pass while defenders behind his back, he tends to pass it backward. He doesn’t have the ability where he can shield the ball and do turn to beat defenders when defenders are behind his back. For Garnacho to beat defenders, he needs to actually face them in front and beat them in direct approach face to face.

This L10 or R10 requires a good technical player who can shield the ball, players who are good in tight space and has the ability to beat the defenders or the press when they are behind his back. IMO Cunha has this ability, hence why the role suits him more than Garnacho.

I don’t think he contributed much yesterday but all credit to our players able to stop Wolves’ attackers. Despite of not much contribution, I thought Cunha was their best player yesterday.

We collected 2 yellow cards and they both came from trying to stop Cunha, which shows that he’s a dangerous attacker that we needed 2 yellow cards to stop him. This also shows even if he doesn’t score goals or assists, he could still contribute to the team by winning free kicks, attract opposition players on him which open space for others, and even indirectly created the goal yesterday from the free kick we conceded by fouling him.

I don’t think his value is 60m (more like 50m) but I would still take the gamble to spend the money on him because he’s PL proven and I think he will be a massive upgrade for us. His profile fits the L10 system in the same formation and his ability in tight space and a ball carrier will be big assets because we don’t really have enough players that has the same profile. I think both Cunha and Amad as our L10 and R10 will make our attackers more threatening to defenders because both are good in tight space, which is difficult to stop without fouling them.

If he would cost like 40 million, probably. But his RC is too high for what I think we'd be getting. Think we need some pace and trickery in our front line.

I think I’d rather sign Andre from Wolves who’d probably be about 20m less and then spend that on Cherki.

Have question marks about Cherki as well as Cunha but for less than half the price that is who I would take a punt on. Do like Cunha but we would have to spend more than his release clause to get him and not convinced that would be a good deal considering all the other issues we have.

Looks like one of those players who starts each campaign with a bang but, slowly but surely, finishes the season on abit of a whimper.

I think as a L10 who can cover 9, Cunha makes a lot of sense for us. We have a good setup and able to get the ball to the final third where it all falls apart. Garnacho despite his promise isn't a great fit for our system, so it makes sense to sell him and get both Cunha and Cherki. Cherki would be our long term Bruno replacement but will come in as a squad player, whilst Cunha offers goalscoring, technical ability and aggression at that position. Imagine Cunha if he had got the chances Mount had, they would've both been goals. If we have a group of 10s that include Cunha, Bruno, Amad, Cherki, Mount and Zirkzee we would be well stocked and they offer the right mix of scoring, creativity and dribbling prowess.

I don't think he's worth +60m outlay, so hopefully there is scope to negotiate on fee.

No idea about the cost, but I do think Andre have qualities we are missing.

Probably the only midfielder in the PL worth trying to get. And at 23-24 is likely to improve. Looks really talented. Could probably work both next to Ugarte and instead of him. Looks «well-rounded».

Quality player - but does he fit our system ? And by that I mean - can we play both him and Bruno ? To me there isn't enough pace with Bruno and Cunha

I think the Cherki price is going to be way higher than you are estimating here. The 20M is not a release clause and he is attracting a lot of interest, not sure he would be that much cheaper than Cunha at this point. I am also concerned he would be another Aouar.

Everything I've seen suggests it is a release clause. Where are you getting this from that its not a release clause ?

It was a gentleman’s agreement for January only. He will cost considerably more than €20M +

As above, verbal agreement for Cherki and it was for January alone and not for the summer. His value has been very much enhanced over the second half of the season and he is now being linked with most of the top clubs in the PL along with Barca and other European big hitters. This is likely to turn into a bidding war and I am really not sure he is enough of a sure thing to warrant that.

Bidding wars aren't actually a thing, the players decide where he want to go, not the highest bid.

I hope we're reacting to a season-long string of performances by Cherki and not just one magnificent performance against us. The mania over his one performance in the CL final is largely how we ended up with Onana.

Amad, Cunha, Oshimen totally changes our prospects. Fingers crossed there is fire with all this smoke!

"Inching closer"

"Hoping to have terms agreed next month"

Wow! Such breaking news!

Nothing to do with him having played for ETH, and ETH’s preferences for former players?

He wasn’t great the other day but I think he’d love to play here. Will score a ton with us

If by some miracle we can sign one of the. viktor’s of Osimhen or Gykores, Brian Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha for £175m .

Then sell HOJLUND, Rashford, Antony and Sancho for £135m so £40m net cost and possibly even save £100k per week on wages then INEOS will have my love again, because that’s the sort of front three that a team like Man United should have, with Zirkzee, Garnaucho and Mount/Amad as Back up.

Hell I don’t even mind if we keep Casemiro and Onana if we get those three of those 4 attacking strikers. Only then will this team start to scare opposing teams again!
