Match Day Threads

I guess it comes down to how you see the match day threads.

Geebs and others obviously mainly look at it as a place to talk about the match during the match, thus it's much better to just create the threads one day before the match kicks off, as all the other stuff is unnecessary and just wasting pages.

Then we have other people who see the match day threads as place where they can start the build up and the hype, this includes discussing formations, news, key areas of the match, the opposition's team and their injuries - they of course would like it if the match day threads are created on the same day as the previous ends so that they can talk about the match the entire week before the match.

I can see the advantages of both, but I'm basically neutral, as I hardly ever post in the match day threads, and when I do it's only during half time - but the first group can still use the match day threads as they like if the threads are created a week before, whereas group 2 can't use the threads as they like if it's only created one day before the match, so the peaceful move in my opinion would be to allow threads t be created on the same day as the previous.

I reckon Geebs is correct buddy.

Matchday threads as the forum name suggests is for matchday commentary/comments during the match. We have the United forum for the build up and discussing the game.

It's no big deal if someone starts a thread, GB has never had a problem when the thread is created. He was just concerned about the bickering and the rubbish posted prior to the game.

Tops threads look the best
but i kind of like how a few people compete to get to post the thread
maybe we could use top's as some kind of template?

Yeah that's true but nobody can stop anyone who prefers to post build ups and predictions before the game if a matchday thread is created early. I am fine with it, used to it since that was the tradition of matchday threads, some might find it a little more annoying and tedious. Can't really please all. :D

Well I think it just needs to be more controlled. There are a couple of things that can be done......if ye want to make it so only threads can be made the day before set a time in which to set it and delete any after that time, eg. at 00.00 as soon as it hits the day before.

Otherwise, and I see the point that people like to discuss the next game so you could make a stickied thread in the Manchester United forum for this discussion, with the matchday thread only to be made after 00.00 on the day itself.
Alternatively you could make a pre-match and match thread both, with the match thread locked until the appropriate time, locking the pre-match when the match one is unlocked.

There seem to be different interests and things people look for, why not try to come up with something that will suit both.

They never used to be, long before even you showed up here. Matchday threads should be about a particular match, not a day/date. Why should you need a different thread for build-up? Pre-match talk does not distract from the actual match talk. As I said before, it's not the time the thread is created that is the problem, but rather the people that you allow to abuse the thread.

As you well know, we don't have a problem people discussing the match in the thread. The whole issue started when a few posters started bickering about who starts the thread, and how it should look.

Anyone but me make them.

I was exceptionally significant in starting the format currently used in the match day threads, I took it to the next level,

a turning point in this websites history it could be argued.

However with such a magnificent gift comes a curse, it got to the point every time I started the thread we dropped points.

I don't mind who makes them, all I'd like is to see my wonderful match day legacy continued in the highest quality.

Make me proud.

I pop into the matchday thread all week to see what's happening. I watch the game on my 52" plasma but also post in the matchday thread at the same time....computers all around. I have no one to watch or discuss the games with......surrounded by ABF's...so like the banter and humour in that thread. Also interesting following all the firsts......
who starts the thread
who comes up with the lineups, charlenefan's realm.....
who comes up with GOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLLLLL first, GE does well
who's the first to ask for lineups
who's the first to ask for streams
who's the first to say Hargreaves/Carrick/Giggs is having a shocker....
and on it goes.

Don't go fkn with the matchday thread....the only problem you've got is who starts it...just fix that....nothing else needs fixing.
