Match Day Feedback

Perhaps have the Key Updates in Post 1 rather than OP? Help separate them away from one another?

Also, if you want the templates for any of my images let me know. I've got them saved in my dropbox,

Looks good. Is there going to be a section where you can see the whole squad and their stats, or is it just going to be when you click on their individual profiles? Could make it like when people made the statistics threads, showing minutes, goals, assists and cards, but all in a chart format so you cab easily compare.

Just an idea.

Are you talking about a Radar graph?

Niall, I think having the crests in the OP of the match discussion would be ok. If get a message about them, can remove later, but we've had crests in OP for years with little fuss that we know of.

@Niall
@RedSky

What do you both think of this OP mockup? Key updates taken from reddit for this example

Looks good, we can explore this further when we have actual United games to cover.

There wouldn't be the same level of detail as the reddit updates, exact minute and things like that aren't supported, it would be more like:

15:09 - Goal for Manchester United (Robin van Persie)
15:23 - Yellow Card (Wayne Rooney)
etc

What the feck  Had more of a football manager style squad stats look in mind, could be convenient to keep track of goals and assists as you inevitably see people argue about how many assists somebody actually has.

Wasn't planning on tracking assists. Maybe in the future.

In the Live Updates tab, it'd be good to have what time it is in the match when the updates come in. So, at the moment it just has '2 minutes ago' and the lieks, but it'd be good to have '2 minutes ago(5th min)' or something.

It's not going to the last unread post for me on ipad Safari

Absolutely brilliant Niall, just a shame there were no goals during the match so we could see the goal update!

Cheers. Well there's another game to look forward to so maybe they'll score against Argentina.

Yeah that's something that I may add in the future.

WOW. Knowing the amount of work that went in to something like this and how beautifully it's done...I'm just blown away. It's fantastic, absolutely stunning addition to the site. I'm so jealous. Kudos.

Cheers TD. Nice to see it all coming together after a lot of work. Been waiting years to do this stuff.

What would be nice is if you'd have the option of clicking the 'new posts' button from the Matchday tab. Right now you have to click 'forums' first before you see the new posts thingy.

Superb throughout, flicking between was great and the info down the sides & in the OP was handy. Will make United games so much easier for people to follow, who can't watch for whatever reason - normally if you go by comments alone in a standard match day thread every player is having the best and worst game and United are amazing/zombies.

In that regard it's another step in making Rcaf an absolute one stop shop for all things United - I'd normally veer more towards bbc football for live match updates.

The extras for actual United games look very exciting too.

One minor thing I would change if possible

When flicking between the updates and discussion tabs - the updates refresh automatically but when you flick back to discussion you go back to the page you were on prior to going to updates and not the most recent posts - if you get me.

I get why people would want to follow it in order and view the page they were on, even if 3 more have appeared since, but for me I'd always rather be reading the most up to date posts.

Can you elaborate on that? Not quite sure what you mean.

Tricky one that. Some people will want what you're describing, others will prefer the way it works now. I'll need to think about it and see it in action more myself.

I noticed some odd behaviour with the discussion tab when switching back to it from live updates, sometimes it went to the first page other times it remembered the last page you were on. Needs tweaking.

The match day beta is a section of it's own, when you're in it you can't click new posts from the top black bar, as you normally would in a match day thread.

Ah, I see. You're right, New Posts should be in the secondary nav. I've completed ignored those links for now, will sort them out soon.

I've seen something similar attempted on other forums but nowhere near this in depth or classy looking. It blows anything I've seen out of the water, tbh. Really massively impressed.

Niall is a machine. What he's done is incredible and what we've all seen today is just the tip of the iceberg. Can't wait to see more.

Yeah, I had that issue.

Not sure if possible but could you add an anchor to the updates so that they can be linked to directly - even in the discussion part of the tab? As it is currently, if I want to link to a specific update I have to link to the post below/above it.

And for matches like this one which could go to penalty shootouts, is it possible to add a line between the score and stadia that says something like "xxx wins y:z on penalties"? Or alternatively do something like what twitter did and have the penalty scores in brackets like so:

Is it possible to add the standard, new posts / mark as read to the
Match day top bar? Not a big deal but if I'm in the match day area and I want to see new I have to click the banner, load the main page and then click new posts.

Edit: if this has already been asked / answered, ignore me. It's been a long day.

It would be cool if when in a match day thread, when you got to the part of the page where the information in the sidebar on the right ends, it becomes fixed so that you don't have to scroll back up to the top of the page to see the information. Also when looking down a long thread the empty white space seems a bit wasted which would also be solved with this.

Was it intended to concentrate solely on Netherlands? Line-ups, and now man of the match? Couldn't see Costa Rica line-up, can't vote for Costa Rica player now.

Guess it probably was, as it's a test for future United games...

Yes it was. They are the stand-in team for the beta test. It will de dedicated to United when the season kicks off

Could do with having a different colour for substitution?

I'm also having problems reading through the Live Updates log. When I open it up it comes up with a list of page numbers at the bottom and only displays 10 updates. If I click on the next page, the page numbers then disappear. I have to press back to go back to the previous page. At this point, all of the updates are now present.

Think the ingame stats would be unlikely as a lot of work to do during the game unless they're taken from an external site. I've put a link to the FIFA.com match statistics in the OP of the thread

You mean the live update style for substitutions?

Yeah there is some issues with the live updates pagination. I'll get it sorted for the next match.

Yeah. Though, while man of the match and ratings are United only, think that having opponents' line-ups there would be nice as well.

Opposition teams is too much to manage atm, but maybe in the future.

Fixing the sidebar won't work as it will be truncated depending on the height of the user's browser window. I experimented with it but it won't work.

The whitespace isn't ideal but people will get used to it I think.

Yes I'll be sorting that out.

There is an ID on the match updates (e.g. match_update_60) so you can link to https://www.redcafe.net/matches/holland-vs-costa-rica.1/discussion?page=37#match_update_60

Nice idea. I'll add support for penalties in the future but probably not before the WC ends. That image is the tidiest way to do it.
