Gaming Mass Effect: Andromeda (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Infuriating that the game breaking bug I encounter hasn't actually been remedied through several patches and would probably need to start a new game just to complete that planet and therefore be able to complete the game. Being so many hours in when it happened I've just given up on it for now, might go back in the future.

It's not incredible but its decent. Bits of it are really cool, id also suggest a quick run though avoid the filler.
Agree with this I didn't end up finishing it as took too much time with the filler and got bored. But I had fun the time I played it.

Is there any Easter eggs that nod towards last game? If not I'll race through it as well.

Don't overly spoil if possible
I've just got to a bit were they reference Shepherd and some events from the previous, I don't know how much depth it goes into yet though

I'm liking it a lot now. Shame it took 20 hours over the course of 2 months for me to actually like it, but it does get really good.

Seems to have some serious pacing issues

The kett threat disappeared for me completely for a large part of my playtime so far as I completed loyalty and side missions, was a bit weird

You unlock certain memories and audio files along the way (these are specific map points, so you won't miss them even if you decide to skip all side quests) from the Milky Way. I thought they were quite well made, especially if you romanced a certain OT squad member (the audio files don't change depending on that, they just feel more powerful). Other than that there's a few references on various terminals and such, but you probably won't mind missing these.

Andromeda is the equivalent of watching Fellaini in United midfield after years watching Scholes, Keane and Robson playing there

Cheers!

Cheers for the response what was it that particularly put you off it?

Massive fan myself but I've heard mixed reviews.
It just didn't feel right. The previous games were incredible. This had too many glitches / bugs and it kept interfering with my enjoyment. I didn't like the 'feel' of the combat compared to ME3 with the jump jets and cover system. Too different. Also my favourite biotic power isn't in andromeda and I felt no attachment to the companions. To go from the amazing Garrus to this...

Is there any carry over of xp etc if I start a second play through?

Playing through it atm. Is it as good as 2 or 3? no.

Does it have its flaws? yes

Am I really enjoying it? Yes.

So I bit the bullet and picked it up.

Not too far in but I must say glitch free so far...

I don't mind the new cover system but it takes a bit of guesswork at times as to whether or not something can be cover or not and the jet packs I think give the game a bit more verticality in combat that was not in previous games. That isn't a bad thing IMO as you now have more options to explore in combat which fits the theme of Andromeda.

The characters themselves don't seem as likeable as Mass Effect 1s intro cast however there are nuggets of absolute gold when you take certain pairings out on your adventures "banter" is what most would call it. There is enough variation though to make them feel different.

The story however I have found quite interesting. I have ignored any spoiler related content and am liking the discoveries along the way it's very much story wise a lot more similar to ME1 in terms of it's your first steps and there is an unknown threat etc.

Will update when finished.

still playing this whenever I can. Ive sunk loads of hours in to it, and I'm pretty sure I've still got a long way to go.

It really is an excellent game, people read too much in to the reviews.

Pick it up, and have a go without your review tinted sunglasses on

Yeah I also really like it... the only thing I don't like is how the powers work, but thats a minor gripe really.

Loo

I finished it a few days ago after sinking near 70 hours in, I agree with this point ^

there's also pacing issues and the amount of loose ends and the big decisions you make not impacting this game

Apart from that it's solid and I'm starting insanity

Casey Hudson is back at Bioware. Not sure how much involvement he'd have regarding ME as EA have currently shelved it. I'm sure @Revan and @Mr Pigeon will be pleased.

Yep. For all the flaws of the third game, he directed some masterpieces during his time there. Him and Karpyshyn returning is a good thing.

Or... the return of KOTOR/everything up until that last half an hour of ME3. Huh? HUH?!
You're only as good as your last PR disaster. I just can't forgive him defending that ending as artistic integrity, but then I'm not a forgiving man and that ruined my favourite series. So I'm particularly miffed.

Just finished this game.

So disappointed. It came so close, yet so far. Lacked a lot of what made the original trilogy amongst my favourite games of all times.

Too many grind quests, poor pacing and a bland squad none of whom stood out. Where was my Jack or Liara damnit.

The main fault was by far the pacing. I honestly didn't really know what I was doing half the time or what effect my actions had. I don't even know what the Hyperion is. The human ark I assume? And who the hell is Captain Dunn? It all never really seem to knit together, and the bigger picture just wasn't there. I know I made some big choices that effect the ending, but I've no idea what and I had people helping me at the end that I am pretty sure I had never encountered. Or if I had, I'd forgotten all about them. Because it was all so vanilla.

Far too few epic moments (seriously, the bits that actually seemed to impact tte main the story were so few and far between), far too much grinding and an overall empty, often dull, and unrewarding play. I had such high hopes too.

I still hope they make a sequel mind you.

How many hours you spent on it?

Did the choices actually do anything? *shrug*

I can't even remember the end boss, just telling my bro how unimpressive and lame it was

I finished it last week and it was a good game but mass effect 1 and 2 were great games.

The loyalty missions were ok Liam's was my favourite for the dialogue but few of the characters stood out as much as the originals.

I liked Drack but I think what made the original great was the story and I didn't feel the same urgency and engagement from a less tangible threat and end goal.

The final boss was a joke, no actual show down with the Archon and some of the architects were more challenging.

The mechanics are fine but it's just been let down by poor plot and weaker characters.

I completed this game yesterday and I couldn't even tell you what Liam's loyalty mission was? Flying around different galaxies and having to face countless loading screens just to scan some space bollocks wasn't it?

Also Drack was just Wrex. Like they were the exact same character. Except Wrex was Wrex before Drack was Drack, so Drack just ended up being dull.

As an aside, the only two games I've played on ps4 so far are FF XV and ME:A and so far they've both been hugely disappointing. Dragon age Inquisition is up next, and it better be decent or that's effectively three of my favourite franchises ruined.

Oh man.

actually really liked DA:I when it came out, but I imagine it'd be shit now after The Witcher 3.

So if you haven't played The Witcher 3 yet, you'll like it.

That moment when you realise

there's only two new races in andromeda despite being countless others in tmw (count those non playable races too!)

Yeah that was fun :wenger:
