Mason Mount's Many Misfortunes

Judging by his statement surely this means that he has an idea of what the ownership model will be, otherwise why would he want to come to united knowing that the Glazers would remain. If that were the case he would have better to have remained at Chelsea or go to Liverpool .
I bet he hasnt got a clue. Quite a construction you have going there.

Happy with the signing. Hope he's not #7 though, would be weird. That only suits Garnacho.

Very happy with this signing. Good to see the club get a signing done pretty early too.

Time to kick on now with getting some of the dregs out of the door and brining in a GK / Striker.

Is Mount really creative though?

I find this to be an underwhelming signing but hopefully proven wrong.
Different type of player, obviously, but I’m hoping he’ll have the same sort of ‘quietly effective’ impact as Carrick did, and which Eriksen has done sporadically (until his legs give up) - basically doing the boring but important work allowing our more flair-based players, like Bruno, to shine.

I think it's likely we switch to a 4-3-3 rather than the 4-2-3-1. Casemiro #6 Bruno & Mount #8.

The club's statement says that Ten Hag sees him as a modern midfielder who can attack and defend so he'll probably take Eriksen's position as suspected.
Does he have the ball retention to do this though ? From what others have speculated he's more of a final third player with progressive running/passing than a deeper mid.Hopefully Im wrong but I feel we will be left way to open possession wise with him and Bruno in the bigger games.

Think he will surprise many. It’s telling that Arsenal and Liverpool both wanted him, and Chelsea wanted to keep him. He obviously has the sort of attributes a manager like without necessarily needing to be a world beater.

Never rated him highly to be honest, hope he proves me wrong and turns out to be a huge success.

Thought Mount's message to Chelsea fans was genuine and classy. However, many of them seem to be pissed off with him

Didn't come across as genuine at all, felt more like something his publicist had come up with. Huge contrast to the Ruben Neves video for example, and he wasn't even a Wolves-raised player but just someone they bought from another country to play a few seasons for them.

I'm disappointed he's gone and will hate watching him play for another English club but it's been so long time coming that I've already processed his inevitable departure months ago and don't really feel anything now. At least with the transfer confirmed there's finally some closure and we can fully start preparing for the next season without him.

While I rate him really high, it's been clear since early 2023 by just looking at the players we've signed that the club had already started moving on from Mount when it became more or less certain that a new contract wasn't going to happen. Even if he'd stayed I just don't see a genuine starting place for him in Poch's favored 4-2-3-1 where Enzo and hopefully Caicedo will take the deeper midfield positions and Nkunku, unless he fails spectacularly, is pretty much nailed on as the number 10.

I'm looking at it from a point of view that i would certainly have, surely he wouldn't want to to united if the same model were to remain, one of my first question would be "which direction is the club going" after all this contract will take him until he's 30 so the best of his playing years.

I dont think players think about who are the owners before moving to clubs at all.

He just turned from someone I thought was average most of the time into the next Modric.

The transfer has grown on me...going from 'he is shit' to being intrigued to see him play in the United midfield.

I'm hoping he brings an element of control to the midfield and enables Bruno and Casemiro to settle down a bit.

Good signing at 24 years of age, plenty of experience and adds depth to the already strong left side.

Welcome Mason. Looking forward to seeing what you can do.

He seems very much a ETH player and Mason is keen to join so I'm really hopeful he can be good in our midfield and attacks.

I'm one of many who has not gotten the fuss or really understood what he does. Especially when I've watched him for England.

Hopefully I can start to see what he offers now that I'll see him 90 mins every week. Does at least give that midfield more legs.

How many players genuinely look good for England?

You also said anything over £40m would be mental for him with a year on his contract, coming off a bad injury, and a terrible season. As did I, as did a lot of us. The club can try release as much to Whitwhell and the press as they want to make this look like we got a good deal and stuck to our guns, but let's be honest, that's bloody mental money for Mason fecking Mount.

I guess we have to do what we did when we signed Maguire now and shut up and wait til he's played a few games and hope the fee doesn't turn out to be as mad as it currently looks. I really hope he's good!

Ooo that shirt number is gonna piss some people right off

Don't care about it myself, the mystique of it is pretty much dead anyway
