Mason Mount | Confirmed

Surprised at the reaction here. Classic case of the English media talking up one of their players beyond their capabilities, engineering a backlash against them when they inevitably don’t meet the hype. Mount’s a decent player and isn’t deserving of ridicule.
A creative midfielder who can’t create. Chelsea have tried him in virtually every position you can across the midfield and wings and he still underperforms. No thanks.

Mason has a better record at 24 than Berg Huis had at 24, in tougher leagues
The main point is Berghuis is technically superior. No matter the league....
Berghuis is a bit more agile, which has helped him in midfield (like it did Giggs when he got older), but Mount isn't stiff.
Berghuis was a winger before. Plus is more technically gifted on the ball. I wouldn't even say Mount isn't as agile. He just isn't as gifted technically

I think he should probably be at like Spurs where they just have so little going forward centrally in midfield if they ever want to play with a high line.

I could see him at Liverpool as a #10 on a free might appeal to them. Milan make some sense too if Diaz goes back to Madrid. De Kaetelaere hasn't hit the ground running and Mount would probably look alright behind a #9 with Leao to his left and Tonali and Bennacer behind him.
he'd suit Klopp football imho. He is a work horse of the ball. Is intelligent tactically and is a consistent goal threat and has a decent eye for assists. He'd never be required to run games in a Klopp midfield. Same with a Conte. As was with Tuchel. He'd be excellent in that kind of collective.

He'll probably have a better career than Berghuis overall, even though Berghuis has done really well in the 2nd half of his 20s....
Don't get me wrong. I don't believe Berghuis a better player than Mount,
Just a much better ETH football type player.
I don't agree either with all "he is a nothing player" claims too. I'm certain Mount will have the better career. Especially if he plays for a coach whose football suits him.

Can see Liverpool going for him to combine with Bajcetic and maybe Bellingham in a remodelled midfield.

It's funny when we all spunk about Macallister at Brighton and ridicule Mount (I myself am guilty) but when we think about it, at their best, they do pretty much the same thing.

Whilst he has been terrible this season, he has done much better for Chelsea than people are making out. I wouldn't particularly want him, but people can go way over the top with criticism:

In 21/22, he was Chelsea's top scorer and assister - He had 21 goal contributions in 32 games in the PL, (29 goal contributions in 53 total games). The PL stat is only 2 off of what De Bruyne ended with; there is no doubt he was one of Chelsea's better players last season.

I think he could be a very good player still for another Premier League side.

Everybody is shite for Chelsea these days. Mount is a very decent player, would do well for Arsenal or Liverpool.

Have you really watched Macallister? Him and Mount play completely different positions.

Mount at his most successful was an inside forward in that weird Tuchel setup. He's crap in any sort of true midfield role

Both are good players in sides with already competent midfielders. They aren’t playmakers or defenders. They run around a lot and pop up with goals and assists and complement the other midfielders that specialise in other formats. Kind of like Henderson. They don’t have any real stand out qualities but are a jack of all trade type player. Thats how I view them both.

Except he's ready to be the type of player that starts the odd cup game or comes on when the team is ahead and better players need to be rested, I don't see the point. Heaven forbid he's purchased with the aim of being a starter here.

Except Macallister is actually a central midfielder in the same mould as Eriksen or someone else that links defense and attack. Mount isn't close to that. Mount also isn't remotely similar to Henderson. Again have you watched him?

I've already made the comparison earlier in the thread but Mounts best blueprint is a younger Jessie Lingard when he was decent. I think Mount is a bit better than Lingard, but their styles are similar and both ran into the same issue of not being good enough of a creator to be a 10, but aren't dangerous enough as a forward either.

Could be Liverpool bound? Chamberlain's contract expires in the summer - doubt they'll extend it since he's been awful.

He’s not good enough for us but will probably fit in ok at Liverpool.

Fantastic footballer, Boehly needs to be offering a 7 year contract minimum, 300k a week should do it but make it 350k just to be sure.

Next!

Yeah, that’s my opinion on where Mount can be utilised best. As a third midfielder who complements the others.

He's absolute dogshit. Belongs in the Championship.

Gareth Southgate and Lampard love him though because run round like headless chicken and is English.

Lingard genuinely has more talent than him.

He's been pretty poor whenever I've seen him play this season. I didn't see the Southampton game but the below stats are pretty damming,

Mason Mount was 0% on his ground duel battles (0/6), tackles attempted (0/1), successful take-ons (0/2) and accurate crosses (0/1). Kepa Arrizabalaga completed more passes (14/14) than Mason Mount (5/9) for Chelsea against Southampton.

You just know that if he wasn't already a chelsea player and he came on the market Boehly would 100% do this.

Honest question, what does he do?

I am actuallyrelieved reading through this thread because I had thought I was completely missing something with this guy, because he's a chelsea and England regular, but I am happy to see most feel the same.

Mount is a decent player who is having a really bad season. I wouldn't want him at United because I don't think he offers anything we don't have already, but I do think there's a player in there. It's easy to see why contract talks with Chelsea have stalled if he's asking for £200k a week, mind.

Could take advantage of Boehly’s scattergun approach here.
I think he could be great cover for Bruno, would work hard and press. Could be a great a squad addition IMO

I'm surprised some would not take him, Mason Mount is an excellent young player, v good football intelligence, consistent, good experience, technically reliable, carries a goal threat, good attitude and will continue to improve.

However, he isn't a passer-set the tempo-creative type of player, so it's how you get the best out of him...I think he needs a coach to help confirm his role. He needs responsibility and an on-field identity.

But I think he would be a great addition to the squad.

He’s bang average.

He's not a bad player, he's just not special.

The sort of player who would do well in Germany or Spain but not come to the Prem normally, playing in like a 4-2-2-2 at Leipzig or something.

He'd be an improved version of DVB. I'm not sure that sort of a player adds value to our (current/intended) system of play?
