Chelsea want 70m . He is not worth more than 30m when he has 4 years left in his contract, let alone 1 year left. Arnold and Murtough doing their last stupid work before they feck off.

It's absolute madness if we sign someone for that amount when he hasn't shown any kind of consistent form or that he's better than Jesse Lingard was.

We still need a GK, ST, MC and RB even if we sign Mount!

It would only make sense for me if he's on a free. Otherwise, the qualities he could bring, we don't need them as urgently as others

If this is really a signing EtH wants to make, my opinion on him drastically changes. Major red flag! This isn't Ajax anymore, we need to challenge for major trophies.

We've engaged on this topic in another thread, but it's easier to say "I don't know anyone, so there isn't anyone". I personally will wager we will sign 2 midfielders this summer and one will fit the mould of a deeper, ball progressing midfielder.
It's not because it's easier to say "I don't know anyone, so there isn't anyone". But it's because I really don't know anyone so you should tell me who is this anyone if you think there is. Hence why I open to discuss this.

There are two possibilities that there could be someone out there or there might not be someone out there. It's not just about one possibility.

Arteta, Klopp, Tuchel and Ten Hag all rate him. Maybe just maybe he’s a good player. He progresses the ball very well and his off the ball attributes are arguably right up there with the leagues best.

However I still wouldn’t want us to use 55 million of our budget on him.

I get your point. I just wanted to mention another side of the equation, the fact that fans are not all clued in the market of players doesn't mean anything
I agree just because fans are not all clued in the market of players doesn't mean anything.

But I'm not basing this on fans not clued in the market of players, I'm saying this could the reason why we want to sign Mason Mount despite already have Bruno, the likely is that because we couldn't find the available player that fits the manager's profile to play deep-playmaker role so ETH thinks let's use Bruno instead and sign Mason Mount to play the attacking mid role.

I’ll reserve judgement of ETH until an actual transfer has happened. Bring in Mount for 30m or less for the squad depth, and I will be fairly neutral about it. Spend more than that, and I would be very disappointed.

Mason Mount won the CL a few years ago and was named Chelsea's player of the season that year.

How many of our current team have won the CL? The former Real Madrid boys. That's it.

I never rated Mount tbh, maybe I'm too biased but it would take a long run of consistent performances to convince me he's that guy

Why doesn’t he start for Chelsea?

I don't understand this guy. Every time I watch him, he's shite. I can only see him flopping hard.

Why doesn’t he start for Chelsea?
Because he was ruled out for the season back in April with an injury that required surgery / didn’t really fit with Potter’s attempt at whatever it was he did back when Potter was in charge.

The problem with saying "He's like Park" is that when we had Park running around we mostly had Carrick, Scholes, Cristiano, Rooney and then another guy (Tevez, Giggs, Berba, Fletcher) so basically tons of quality but not a ton of graft and running (Rooney, Tevez and Fletcher from that group).

Right now, we have Bruno, Casemiro, Rashford, Antony and a new #9 penciled in as front 6 starters and then Eriksen and Garnacho presumably playing a ton too. You look at that group, and what's obviously lacking is composure on the ball (outside of Antony and Eriksen and Kane if we get him).

Bruno and Casimero both have composure

We've been here before with Matic and Mata. A massively uninspiring transfer if true. It looks like business as usual at the madhouse.

Clubs really should just let Chelsea rot in their own mess. Giving them £50 million for an okay player in the last year of their contract is annoying. They can’t afford to let these assets walk for free.

Not sure he is the player we need as a priority, his heat map is mostly left wing, which would mean he would be overlapping with Rashford, Garnacho, unless the plan is to utilise Rashford as a 9, Mount/Garnacho left, bring in another striker not necessarily a marquee signing, we have already been linked with Evan Ferguson and use the funds elsewhere .

I guess ETH might know more about the takeover and potential funds, but he will have to plan for the Glazer's budget which may well be somewhat more limited, realistically if that is the case buying Ferguson and Mount will be a lot cheaper than Kane or Osimhen, or maybe ETH thinks he can get Kane, Mount and Ferguson for the same price as Osimhen, I dunno but ETH knows he needs a midfielder FDJ will be pricey.... I wonder how much Maddison will cost if Leicester go down? and at least one CB.

TBH would prefer Mount over Neymar

I think I'd be ok with anything between £30-35m. There's always the chance that Mount is using us to get a better contract though. Hopefully we don't keep going with this if it becomes drawn out and we are being messed around.

I don’t know. Bruno has a tendency to go for the killer pass way too often and gives the ball away a lot through that, and Casemiro also gives the ball away more than he should. They both have really important roles, but a composed Eriksen type next to them really complement them well. Not sure Mount is that.

I may be underrating him but I wouldn’t want him on a free clogging the wage bill if better options were available.

Anything more than £30m would be awful.

I always thought if he had a Spanish football education. He'll have been utilized as a Pedri/Iniesta sort of midfielder. He can dribble explosively in tight spaces to transition attack and very good with the little give an go alongside his immense work rate and goal scoring.
If we add him and Rabiot that will be an improvement to the likes of Donny/Sabitzer and Mcsause.
In big games I can see us playing a Rabiot, Casemiro pairing with Mount in front of them and Fernandes on the right. We'll be better against the top 8 that we struggle against away from home that way.
I genuinely had to double check if this post was made in the Mason Mount thread.

Bruno and Casimero both have composure
They absolutely don’t. They treat the ball like hot potato and they’re far from the only ones. The only players we have genuine composure on the ball are Shaw and Martinez

This is why you have a proper director of football, ETH might just be building up his own collection of very expensive deadwood for the next guy to have to deal with. It’s a never ending cycle.

Previously winning the Champions League isn't a metric on how good a player is. Neither is being a clubs player of the season. If I remember correctly players such as Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera have won our player of the season award in the past.

Mason Mount is an average player. Maybe he is a very slight upgrade on Scott and Fred but at that price we should stay well clear. Not to mention we'd be directly funding Chelsea's improvement too.

Buying Mason Mount for anything over £30m just isn't what well run clubs do.

Even that sounds too much when we are talking about Mason fecking Mount. Even on a free, I'd just barely consider him as a squad player. And if it's for the homegrown quota, we can utilize our academy. Speaking of which, I'm 100% sure we can find someone just as good, if not better, than Mount there. If I were one of the youngsters, I'd be pretty demoralized seeing Mount be preferred ahead of me.

I sometimes think our club suffers from FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and this shapes our transfer policy at times.

Did we need Alexis Sanchez? No but we "stopped" him from going to City
Did we need Ronaldo? No
Did we need Lukaku? Or did we just step in to stop him from going to Chelsea
Now Mount....

I'm not criticising you for not knowing anyone, I'm criticising the argument. I don't personally have access to something like wyscout, or whatever to screen on metrics, but it's not hard to do something like the following:

This graphic was 2022 I believe, but the point is it's fanciful to suggest the profile just doesn't exist and start an argument from that position. I see the same sort of arguments in the Kane thread.

Mount is talented, he has good technical ability, good in possession, high work rate and eye for goal. He will be a good signing for United and would be a good fit for what ETH wants to do. Lack of options in the squad to slip in and play our system derail our chance in the Europa League. If city have KDB out, Gundogan steps in, if Grealish needs a rest Foden steps up, every position, they all know the system. What happens when Fernandes gets injured or plays 40 games in a row and is out of steam? If United are to be serious contenders next season, especially with CL football we need to sign 2 out of the four i.e. Rice, Mount and or Caicedo, Neves. Two new midfielders are needed to improve and deepen the squad. Keeping McFred doesn't represent progress. That's what makes Man City head and shoulders above the rest; having world class options on the bench in virtually all the positions and keeping all of them happy by rotating adequately without weakening the squad. We also need a 25+ goals striker. Unrealistic to think we would score enough goals during the season with the options we have now. A world class Centre back, not one that is a spare for regular two but who'll rotate with the Martinez/Varane or if we chose to play a back five. Then, and only then will we match City for 38 games.

Ornstein is reporting Mounts preference and then follows up with we're "preparing a bid". Reads like an O jogo headline about Garay or Gaitan.

Our priority is clearly a striker, but we're just gonna drop 55m on Mount first? I'll believe it when I see it.
*fingers in my ears because it’s not what I want to hear la la la la la*

How do you go from wanting frenkie to mount? Its like going from target A to target Z and missing ouy the rest of the alphabet of targets.

It could come from the Mount camp to give him a bigger contract. Not like it is the first time a player`s agent have used United`s name to drum up interest or force clubs to give better contracts.

Funny how a large portion of the caf wrote this off because “it’s the mail” - yet it was Mokbel who is generally quite reliable & now ornstein reporting it people are believing it

When it comes from Ornstein it is to be taken seriously.

The only logical reason to buy Mount I can think of is as a direct replacement for Donny. Still can't figure out where he fits in after a few hours of sleep.

As the reports have highlighted. He’s Fred with goals. So expect to see Fred gone.

Think he plays in the eriksen position personally.
