Mason Mount | Confirmed

If Chelsea had set 100m asking price, would you be okay with us paying 80m?

It’s clear that Chelsea value him at around 65-70m, that’s why they quoting him at 80m. The main thing to note is that there is literally no one else bidding for Mount. And anyother club in the PL would walk away if they were quoted 65m.
It’s not often you have multiple clubs bid for the same player at the same time. That’s because clubs scope out whether the player will join them beforehand and also what kind of fee the club will be looking for.

It’s already been reported though that Liverpool and Arsenal wanted Mount but he chose to go to Utd.

I'm talking about this transfer window. Everybody knows we've been shambles for a while.
There's an obvious and undeniable precedent (as you mention) so it's pretty reasonable that people are somewhat pessimistic. The power is in the club's hands to change the narrative.

If Mount had 3/4 years left on his contract I would still think £55m plus add ons was expensive. He doesn’t start for Chelsea anymore, heck even Southgate’s love affair has stopped and guess what England can finally score goals again.

He isn’t worth the money, simple as that. United need to stop this tunnel vision approach to transfers. Yet again I sit here wondering what our scouts are paid for as they never come up with anything. Other than the fact Mount has one year on his contract and there was a perception we could get him for £25-35m I can’t see why United would have bothered. To desperately need a ST and GK and see us potentially wasting over £60m on Mount is a depressing start to the transfer window.
He seems a ETH target to me. Agreed though, we don't unearth hidden gems like a Brighton.

Suppose Havertz had a five year contract when they signed him and it had two years left to run I'd say they made. A profit on his amortization because in their book he would have been worth only 30m. To me, I am not well versed on the latest rule, but it doesn't make sense to hold a club to a valuation they paid five years ago when the contractual status means that his value has depreciated.

Well yeah. I think Maguire is always a simple example to go by.

We sign him for £80m on a 6 year deal. Every year his value goes down by 13m each year.

If we sold him 3 years down the line we would only make profit on anything above £41m.

Use that for Chelsea players you find out they haven’t really made that much money.

When you say this will be the final bid then you have bound yourself already.
If you come on with a new bid after this then you become laughing stock.

Oh no a laughing stock, how could us as adults cope with that. The last ten years have gone so well, I'd hate for there to finally be a reason for people to mock Manchester United.

Other clubs seem to be buying players at reasonable prices. I mean the difference I suppose is that I really don’t rate Mason Mount at all. Would be like us setting £100m price on McTominay. So the starting position was way overinflated from the beginning.

That’s the main and only thing. You don’t rate Mount. Which is why what you are saying makes zero factual sense.

But I respect the fact your honest.

Chelsea are deluded. He is out of contract in 1 year. United hold all the cards. I think we can be chill on this one and wait.
United is quite clearly stupid in the market, the current bid is even already way too much for such a player on a 1-year contract.

Feck Chelsea. Completely unreasonable valuation, just get him on a free next year.

And if there was any doubt then we would be confirming it even more.

I think everyone is running away slightly wiht the whole Chelsea winning thing here as well, their original estimation is 70-80 and they've had to climb down a bit too mind, it's not just us having to bump up, we'll most likely meet at 60 and call it a day, which is a bit more than our original offer but it's also less than Chelsea originally wanted. So it's not like Chelsea have stuck to their price and then we've waited all summer and caved and paid that price. This isn't like an Antony.
Would you be happy with an 80 million agreement if they wanted 100 million originally?

60 million for Mount on a 1 year contract is still ridiculous.

All a bit of a joke... City, Liverpool do their business efficiently and quietly. Our transfers, however, occasionally become drawn out dramas. This should not be a two-week negotiation ffs... we pay how much for Sancho and Antony, and we don't want to spend £60m for Mount?

We have little choice, just get this done. And for those who say walk away, just look at our squad. Look at it. What has changed? Pre-season starts in a few weeks.

Club needs to sort itself out, its administration is embarrassing. And it's affecting work to improve the squad. I'm fed up with it. Just sign the player, he wants to play for Manchester United and he's a very good player.
This really isn't the case.

Kovacic deal has been rumbling on for weeks now, City still haven't signed the deal off yet.

Liverpool took well over a month to get the Mac Allister deal over the line, having been in talks since the beginning of May.

Both clubs have signed one player each, I think we are now up to 19 completed transfers now in the premiership.

19. Which includes free transfers.

Hardly shows how proactive other clubs have been.

United have had two/three bids turned down, with the club refusing to pay over the odds, which is a good thing.

Has anyone said maybe we should exit this particular transfer situation, I can't think how to put it in a short and snappy way.
Has anyone else made a comment about other posters suggesting United should exit this transfer negotiation? Might be a first.

I think the word you’re looking for is « shambles ».
If you feel brave enough, say that our negotiations team is totally shite, have a free dig at Darren Fletcher because why not, insert a random « jobs for the boys » and then the icing on the Caf cake « not good enough for United »

A Caf bingo would be quite funny now that I think of it

As was Weghorst. As was Antony.

Thats a bit unfair Antony was ok for his first season and we clearly had no budget in January so he took Weghorst on loan just to give him an extra body upfront

On Mount - we aren’t walking away we have zero backups lined up as usual.

Agreed.

It seems like ten Hag wants a central player who can go from the middle third to the final third and have the intelligence to press effectively in tandem with the rest of the team. And that is what Mount provides along with being quick and agile.

Mount isn't a alternative to a deeper lying midfielder.

And I do believe the club will sign a player to occupy a deeper role in midfield as well. And this player will be someone who will be comfortable operating in the defensive third in possession as well as having the game to advance into the middle third and connect with the advanced central and wide attackers.

And hopefully Onana or another capable keeper in possession will provide the free man option in the build up phase which will hopefully make our build up smoother from deeper areas and result in the game being played in the opponent's half with the press and counter press as another weapon to break the opponent down without the ball.

The move only makes sense to me if as you say we are also signing a secod midfielder, with probable exits that would be a good thing within the squad. But I wonder how they fit in, as there are still probably three midfield spots and Casemeiro and Fernandes occupy two of them, though much stronger competition fo Fernandes especially isnt a bad thing.

But personally I prefer a midfield signing that offers a more all round option in all areas of the field and I think Caqueret and Barella both fit that kind of profile. Previous poster labels Caqueret lightweight, bu they are both fighters and I disagree with that, Kante is pretty lightweight for example.

Biggest bugbear is w are going to overpay for a player yet again in our fitst deal of the summer....sets a precedent in further negotiations for us I feel

Bit like when we had to abandon FdJ and didn't sign anyone.

Other than that guy Casemiro.

Kante has never been lightweight diminutive yes but lightweight no .

Lets not act like it was a well thought out plan…chasing a player who didn’t want to come for months to then move onto a completely different type of midfielder in a panic after those first 2 embarrassing games

Yeah he was a total panic buy that we hadn't been working on all Summer. He also flopped horribly... Really embarrassing deal that.

Time to walk away from this one. Chelsea paid 48m for Sterling last year in a similar situation. They're taking the piss now.

So you think we signed Casemiro in 2-3 days after our first two games without doing any prep prior to it?

Yeh, it is a bit odd that people get rankled by seeing the same things getting repeated. You're on an internet forum with thousands of people! And you probably frequent said forum (and particular threads) far too often!

If EtH wants a target and he is obtainable, just back him. We don't want EtH managing a squad of his 2nd and even 3rd choices.

Chelsea will sign Caicedo no matter what. I don’t get why people think we’re helping them out. They’re getting 65m for havertz. Kante has left, Koulibaly has left… they’ll have money for him wether they sell Mount or not.
No they cant, catch up with rules mate.

Like a Chelsea fan as already said on here they’ll make sales from other players. Not just Mount. It’s not like they’re relying on us and if they were then surely they’d of accepted our first bid of like 45m for him. They’d of made a profit no matter what so why would they risk not selling him if they thought they had to in order to sign Caicedo?

Where would walkaway play what's his best position , but jokes apart there must be other targets we can pursue in the meantime lets not rescind the offer but let Chelsea stew over this a bit we can always raise the bid if we really want to get this done .

But I think this would get done soon at 55 m Guaranteed with no further add-ons .
