I've said it in this thread before but I'll say it again, I just don't understand why so many of the posters that talk about wanting him back care so much about it? Are you related to him? Best friends? No, most of you never met him probably, don't know him at all, so why?

For me even just the inkling of him doing what he's been accused of (and it's alot more than an inkling) makes me not want him near the club that I've supported for over 30 years. But the fact that some of you would actually support him, cheer for him if he scores, is the strangest and most disturbing thing for me.

No player is more important than United anyway, so definitely a player with his baggage is definitely not more important than United, and I don't understand how anyone else could see it any other way.

Yes, some things are just more important than football.

As good as he was for us, it means feck all with this cloud over it.

People sure don't like being reminded of the big old elephant in the room do they.

Where does he play if he comes back? Garnacho has shown more than Greenwood did on the right and he isn't a natural number 9 like Hojlund. I don't think he would or should be a rotation player at this stage of his career but there's no regular spot for him anymore.

I think with a year out of the British media spotlight and a stronger management structure we'd bring him back if we wanted to, but i don't know if we would anymore.

I love Garnacho but I don't think Garnacho has even shown more than what would be considered Greenwood's worst season on the right for us let alone the season where he scored 18 goals at the age of 18. Garnacho definitely has a better physical application in terms of getting up and down the wing but the kid is a long way off what Greenwood was capable of doing. Maybe one day he'll get there but I don't think he has the innate talent Greenwood has. However, talent is only a part of the equation.

I mean, it will, he's still got a lot of power over where he goes. It's naive to think if we agree the best deal with say, Fernabache, he'll go there. I agree with the rest of what you said though.

He does have to agree but if a good club like Fenabache come in for him he'd be a fool to turn them down. I doubt he has much power though. United could put him on gardening leave until his contract expires.

You might be right but comparing them as young platyers is only worth so much. Their mid 20s is where they find and cement their level. Intelligence and coaching plays a huge part in this stage. But on early impressions, as good as Garnacho is, the other numptie was better. That said, Garnacho is steadily getting better and better.

I don't know how you can say that with a straight face. You think there will be no blow back from making such a decision? Surely even those who want him back can see it's a massive gamble to bring him back as to what the effect will be?
Sensible regarding the footballing side, meaning as we always do, we work on a budget and we have lots of work to do in bringing players for other positions. I can imagine incidents like the one with Bellingham will be frequent at the beginning but will die out as the time passes. If the club is finally setting up to fix the structure and creating a proper dressing room, I think it can be handled in good manner.

You can't just stick your head in the sand regarding the non football side. We'll you can. But you're longer being sensible.

If he's getting shit in Spain, imagine Leeds, Anfield or West Ham. And unlike players in the past who got shit, a lot of our fans will agree with the oppo abuse and taunts.

Sensible indeed.

I agree regarding judging them in their mid 20s.

I'd also say I think the question of who is/was a better talent is much closer with Garnacho and Rashford (at their respective ages) than Garnacho and Greenwood.

It's what we say when we talk that can be problematic.

Ignoring an examination of what the poster said against the allegations, this thread alone shows bringing a divisive player back would be anything but sensible.

You need to "wind your neck in" isn't that the phrase you used?

Nobody is stopping anyone discussing football, so stick that.
This thread has nothing to do with running a football club and a dressing room. Tell me how did this forum handle bringing back Antony to the team? Is he definitely cleared off all wrongdoings?

I don't really like Rashford's playing style. On first impressions, he would be in third place on the eye test for me, by a stretch.

If he can't handle the pressure and the shit he gets, we can always bin him afterwards. But doing it now when we have another RW who has even worse case against him and ongoing in Brazil, but is still playing and getting minutes while being absolute woeful at his job, I think is pure stupidity.

This thread shows the split amongst the fans.

This forum didn't have the same issue with Antony, despite him being half the player.

Have you seen the pictures of the bruised and bloodied woman, or heard the audio, and still don't see why the comparison is stupid?

Forget sensible decision, they will make the right decision which is to get shot of him
Hopefully you are wrong, the right decision at this moment of time, is to bring him back and reintegrate him to the side. Hopefully under a proper DOF figure, and a better manager than ETH.

To an extent, perhaps.

However, when people just post on his performances (and only that), this doesn't tend to happen.

It's when people add "we could really use him" or "I hope he returns next season" or "he's miles better than Antony" that they get "jumped on", as you say - which is 100% predictable and 95% avoidable.

ETA Stick to posting about his progress in Spain without making comments about his future at United, and people will for the most part leave you alone.
Good observation

If the club or the player thought they could handle thd pushback the would have kept him. Why go through all that again? Not very sensible.

Also, and this might blow your mind, but it's not about football ability for lots of people.

If you can’t see how divided United fans are, how away fans chant and how even fellow footballers might treat him then I think you’re not setting your squad up to have a healthy, team spirit. Bringing him back only guarantees disruption. It’s not a good idea. In fact it’s a terrible idea. People need to move on:

I think this is proper gross.

And why is that? Wasn't one of the women involved in the Antony case hit and cut up with glass?

Yes I have seen the pictures of Greenwood's case, there is no excuse for that. However 19 year old men and women do make mistakes, and Greenwood certainly made his. I also believe that people can change and I think he deserves a second chance. By all account he is already grabbing his second chance given by the girl and forming up a family. We can cut him some slack can't we?

No because it’s not conducive to building team spirit. His chance is that he will get a chance to play football at another team where there will be less pressure on them both

And around we go again.

He is getting a second chance. A second chance and zero repercussions are not the same thing.

Attempted rape and assault are not just mistakes. Not to me anyway.

Guys it's just a mistake when you assault your partner multiple times. He's very sorry :( :(

Some people really, REALLY care about the results of their favourite sports team. I was gonna say "care far too much" but that's my own subjective view on it.

Yeh that's the problem, if you care more about football than what MG did then that's an awful reflection of that person, some things are way more important than football.

He wasn't arrested or charged as far as I know.

That's what I thought.

So, completely different scenarios.

If Greenwood's GF had reported him to the police, but nothing actually happened subsequently (he wasn't arrested and charged, damning footage and audio were never published, etc.), both United's and the fans' reaction(s) obviously would've been completely different too.

Almost as if context matters, who'd have thunk it?

I disagree because as right as you are in saying Greenwood had more raw talent, even before the incident his development had slowed. He had a habit of always trying to do the same thing, come in diagonally from the wing and shoot. Teams had begun to figure it out and he didn't look to be learning anything new.

Imo Garnacho is more of a threat because of his work rate and his unpredictability.

There’s also one photograph with the Antony thing. Way less to go on than, you know, Greenwood’s girlfriend explicitly stating “this is what Mason does to me”.

You don’t covertly record someone the first time something happens. You probably don’t do it the second time either. It’s likely the final straw from somebody who is desperate.

Coupled with her stating “this is what he does to me” with multiple pictures of injuries, it’s a pretty safe conclusion that he assaulted her multiple times. Over a sustained period of time together. But because that’s not a ‘guaranteed fact’ it’s nice and cosy for people to hide behind. They can dress it up as a singular mistake that their good at football hero would never ever do again.

Aye, I'm in the move away from drama camp over any other consideration for/against.

If the club is finally setting up to fix the structure and creating a proper dressing room, I think it can be handled in good manner.
If the club wants to fix the structure and create a proper dressing room, they will not accept a toxic cnut like Greenwood back into it.

The club firstly though they could handle the pushback, but we were run by spineless cowards who changed their mind at the end.

What was it about? How much home press the incident got? Lots of people are also very fickle they cry about Greenwood but have no problem with Antony.

Yeah we'd definitely disagree on that point I think. I'm in the camp that definitely thought there was a drop in performances in Greenwood's second full season (maybe second season syndrome) but thought his last season with us was mature and despite not scoring as much was easily the most consistent attacker in a bad half season for us.
