Mason Greenwood | Officially a Marseille player

I didn't say we should not discuss whether we are comfortable about him playing for United again. That's a viable topic, because it is football related. Somebody brought up that they considered opposition to him coming back as woke. I just said this situation has nothing to do with being woke, that you should be against the abuse of women whether you are woke or not. I was asked how my religious and a political beliefs impacted on my understanding and views on woke, That's where the comment you quoted came in, so I said I only want to discuss football matters, but fot the record I do consider whether Greenwood comes back or not to be a football matter. What woke is and how my religious and political beliefs impact on my understanding and views on woke isn't a football matter, and I don't wish to discuss them.
Fair

I disagree. The player at Arsenal was arrested twice and and bailed pending enquiries or charges.

Like I have previously explained, the law accounts for everyone. The attention brought onto the 2 United players, particularly the Antony case (where he has not yet been arrested or charged) has stratospheriic in comparison.

Regardless of an audio, the first player had charges dropped. However, an uncomfortable truth this is it is innocent or in Antony's case, presumed innocence until proven guilty.

This is why there should be an independent adjudicator to assist clubs to assess the severity of allegations to help decide whether a player can continue playing or not.
Sadly this makes far too much sense for it to happen

but is the Only way

This. Instead it's just excuses from him, the club and the apologists.

I'm really curious to see what the narrative will be if in a years time he struggles to make an impact at Getafe. Will the women beater apologists still want him at the club? will they pretend they never wanted him back? or will they again blame the woke crowd for Greenwood ruining his own career because of his own choices?

I imagine many just want a football club to make decisions based on football.

In the same way they dont generally care if their car manufacturer hires a mechanic/ designer who has been accused of sexual misconduct and had charges dropped. What they want is a safe car that can get them from a-b in a way they deem satisfactory. If the car company start making moral judgements that go against a court of law to get rid of a designer that builds the safest cars, they’re driving far out of their own lane.

If MG can’t play football well, no one wants him back. But that’s not hypocritical, it’s common sense.

I agree there's more attention on Antony than the Arsenal case but that's because him and one of the accusers have played it out in public. The press can't mention the Arsenal case unless he's charged as far as I know.

And even with the attention on the Antony case, I don't think there was many asking for him to be suspended by the club?

I see this as a broader commentary on anglo and English culture these days where cancel culture definitely exists and there is no path to forgiveness, rehabilitation etc. People are just deemed as monsters and socially unacceptable at some point and they can never ever recover from that.

Happy to see him getting a heroes welcome in Getafe and moving on.
Regardless of what happened, he was found innocent, the girl is now his wife and childs mother but more importantly some kind of forgiveness and rehabilitation needs to exist.

The anglo culture today has got it wrong. Forgiveness needs to exist.
He will probably never be able to be treated as a normal person in England because the culture just doesnt know how to deal with a person that went through something like he did. Not now. Not in 15 or 30 years, nothing will ever be enough because there is no forgiveness, he is cancelled and deemed unacceptable forever.

Are you sure about that?

"Holding them to it", "believing them", same difference.

Nowhere near the same. Believing is passive - holding them to it is not. If you say you’ll do xyz you might be able to get away with not delivering if people just believe you but when they actually demand you do it - sometimes you have to do it. Didn’t read the rest of your post because your first sentence didn’t work for me - and I assume that’s what you tried to anchor your post around - kinda like the previous post you made. For clarification - the conversation was never about “mission statements” or “why” - everyone knows core intents are reach/appeal/marketability.

I doubt if he would be getting any minutes soon. He needs to bulk up besides trying to get his match sharpness/fitness back.
After reading Keegan's report this may have been a masterstroke by the club. A well considered move by Arnold/Murtough.
He’s in the squad tomorrow

That's the nature of social media and forums. There will always be moral and/or politicized angles to a range of side stories related to clubs and players. That has nothing to do with the core nature of the football itself and the fan experience of watching/attending matches. Its an addendum to the football that is fanned on by technology and the nature of social media where a lot of people with internet addictions find themselves commenting on things they wouldn't ordinarily care about in real life. This is a completely separate phenomenon from the football itself.

Football having an element of escapism and entertainment - however core those elements may be - doesn’t translate to football being just that - it isn’t, it has never been and football itself doesn’t believe it is nor does sell itself as. Again, it has always been heavily politicised and it’s not a question of nature of social media - this whole thing comes off incredibly dishonest. We’re also not talking about an idealised world/vision - but about what is.

Starts on the bench this afternoon at 1pm. Hoping he gets some minutes.

No not me. No time in life to hold grudges.
If his wife forgave him and now they are having. a baby..

We all saw the pics..but now she is having a. Baby ..
This is a complicated relationship for sure
..and we cannot judge anybody here

After he kicks a ball let’s agree to move onto actual football chat on a football forum.

Hoping he gets on for the last 30 mins today.

Hope he bangs in a hat trick tbh.

Watching the match now. Getafe's playing at home with two banks of fours, having like 10-20% possession -- at home! Unfeckin' believable. No patterns of play.

I don't think Greenwood will get the service he will require to score a lot of goals. But he will need to learn to defend a lot more. If Greenwood can get up to 50% of his abilities, he will easily be the best player at Getafe.

They scored against the run of play. Need another goal before they can afford to bring a ring rust Greenwood on. They are a lot more progressive now after that goal.

Probably this will make him ready to play for United anyway, because at the moment, United are sus defensively.

Not while he’s still our player - he’s only there on loan, who knows what might happen after that.

Hmm, maybe not the right loan for him then. I remember when Januzaj went to Sunderland - an absolutely dogshite team that got relegated and unsurprisingly he struggled there.

Doesn’t really sound too different to his time under Ole, Many of his goals were counter attacked where he did a lot of his own work.

Yeah I think this set up is perfect. Sold foundation.. give him the ball and hope he does something on the counter.

He’ll probably get 15mins by how the game is planning out.
