Not terrible but not great either. When he overhit that through ball in the 2nd half even Ole had enough.
I'd start Sancho over him any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Don't get me wrong he'll still play a big part this season as he's too talented not to make an impact.

I thought he was ok. He is going to have this kind of performances once in awhile as he has been pretty good for most of the games so far.

I actually thought he was decent yesterday. Some nice incisive passing coming infield which opened up our attacking options. Nearly an assist for McTominay.

But he does struggle to connect with Ronaldo and he doesn't offer enough of a consistent goalscoring threat in the box. Plus his defensive work needs to improve.

Perhaps worth starting Sancho on the right for a couple of games. With so many forwards who are basically goalscorers by nature, maybe we need another creator in there for balance.

He’s never a wide player. Apparently I’ve read some where he’s the fastest player at the club. Every time i see him play, he neves looks quick, especially over a long distance.

Hes certainly not the quickest

Hes having a good season so far, hes allowed the odd off game

I didn't see the Leicester game when he scored that worldie but based on the games I have seen I'm not sure he should be the first name on the team sheet like he appears to be this season

Against Liverpool I really hope it's Sancho on the right

He's a brilliant talent but when Cavani and even Ronaldo works harder than you it's time to step up. He's incredibly frustrating when defending, never tracks his runner.

He would have had a great season if played in his correct position but here we are. His form is defined by before and after Ronaldo arrived.

He has great potential but doesn't work anywhere near hard enough off the ball. I wouldn't play him on the right, just play Sancho there and try him out up front alternating games with Ronaldo. Class player but he needs to work so much harder.

He didn't have a good game but this is what you get with young players. Sancho should be first choice there IMO, with Greenwood rotating.

There was a point in the first half where we were 2-0 down, De Gea got hold of it and he was just moping about behind the half-way line. It took dogs abuse and then another few seconds for him to realise he needed to be on his bike.

Very talented young player but also incredibly lazy at times.

It does baffle me how a player have his age can watch Cavani absolutely knock his pan in and not feel embarrassed when he’s strolling around.

Ole was right to sub off.

I really hope he will become a better team player. To many attacks and build up stops with him.

With some great coaching he can become real class.

You’ve not been watching closely enough. Ive seen him strip guys. That game when he came on for Sancho against Wolves and was leaving guys for dead. After Sancho stunk out the place, actually left coady and a half that defense for dust. Leeds game he absoloutely stripped that CB for his goal.

Not including you in this mate.

But I feel a lot of people want to see Sancho do well so they are underplaying Masons performances but he's been a beast for us this season had a bad game against West Ham but outside of that he's either scored or been very tidy. I get people want to see Sancho on the right but as of Now Sancho is just not ready and Mason is. He's been one of our saving graces in a tough start.

Greenwood's performance made me angry.. not just he played bad but the effort wasn't there, no tracking back and he's 20.. you seen more effort from Ronaldo and Cavani and they are mid 30s.. unforgivable! He's playing for Manchester United at 20 years old FFS he should feel the luckiest kid in the World! Not strolling and not doing the basics of jumping for headers etc

He deserves to be dropped for Sancho in the next game. We can't afford to have 2 wingers who want to be strikers.

he needs to work much harder... specially with Ronaldo on the pitch...
I think an important part of our fragility is how free and comfortable the rival players reach our half, he is part of that problem
I still love him though, so much talent, hope he learns something from Cavani

Had the third most presses in the team last night (12) after Fred (23) and Bruno (20).

Also had the third highest success rate on his presses (33%) after McTominay (42%) and Bruno (40%)

Can't find the stats for individual games - but he's also third in the team for Distance Covered per 90 in our Champions League campaign so far. Only McTominay and Bruno beat him.

So the 'lazy' thing doesn't pan out in the stats.

I think he should from now on be used as a sub and Sancho should start every game on the right. The lad is still very young, no need for him to be starting every game and besides I feel he has more impact as a sub anyway at this moment. When the game is there to be won and the opposition is gassed that is the best time to bring on Mason.

It's the same with the Villarael game, he was absoloutely tidy in that game stats say so as well. But people were crucifying him...

It's like people don't like him ever since Sancho arrived - really don't know what happened to our fanbase mate. The stick some of our academy graduates get, I'm not even angry anymore it just saddens me.

I want Sancho to do well personally really I want him to thrive infact I want to see him in a game in the middle. If we were to rest Bruno, see how he copes there but all this downing Mason to hope for Sancho when Mason is scoring for fun playing tidy its so odd.

He has so much class - a few times in the first half he was the only player coming deep, playing a gorgeous pass to break the press and moving up the pitch.

But, as everyone is noting, he's not active enough to be a wide player. Watch Salah, Mane, Raphina, Mount etc - they all put in huge shifts. Mason wants to be a CF - fine - but he's playing like a CF in terms of workrate at the moment.

Given his age, I have to assume it's not a fitness issue.

I'd be very tempted to use him to give Ronnie a rest, and see if Sancho can play in the position we (should have) bought him for. Cavani is also pretty solid out there, suprisingly.

This was from last week where Greenwood is pretty low on this list. Managerial input will be a big factor to these stats but he's clearly not that proactive in his pressing.

Watching him "press" I never have a feeling he's out there to get the ball. It's just running around with no intension to tackle.
He was good offensively I think but he's really not good off the ball.

I'm not really worried about Greenwoods pressing, none of our wingers press well or line up well. Sancho pressing at Dortmund and United are two different players. Even Rashford under Mourinho was a lot more proactive defensively. Definitely a coaching issue and will be fixed whenever the coaches change.

Off the ball is a bit of a problem.

But in the first half when the entire team was shiting the bed, he added calmness and neat passing between the lines almost like a midfielder.

He's absolute class not just with finishing. He actually rarely loses the ball and can turn out of trouble and spot a well weighted pass.

His positioning and tracking needs improvement big time though.

Goldbridge said he's still the same player who was a generational talent at 17/18 Breaking through. And I tend to agree. We have yet to see the progression with Greenwood.

he needs to track back more and press especially playing as a winger. It's a disgrace he's 20 years old he's playing for Manchester United, he should be running about like a headless chicken to get the ball back. He should feel the luckiest kid in the World playing for Manchester United, can get a different women every night in his bed, earning loads. Where's the hunger!? Look at lions like Cavani and Ronaldo last night running around late in the game and they are about to get there OAP bus passes and Zimmer frames. If Greenwood wants a long career at the top like them two he needs to progress and stay hungry with the same desire.

if he wants to impress Gareth and go to the World Cup with England he needs to do more. Especially out of possession and off the ball. Pep Guardiola would expect more from him, so would Klopp. Look at how much Pep gets on Grealish back if he doesn't keep the shape out of possession.. yet Greenwood gets a pass I'm not sure if it's because he's English but none of the pundits mention it.

in saying that he's our future number 9. I just think we are playing him too much. Young players are inconsistent. Sancho is a better winger and will create more on the right. So we should play Sancho against Liverpool.

He shouldnt run like a headless chicken but smart.
Also the other bits about earning loads, different women and the sort, if he fulfilled his dreams just by playing for United then his hunger would have gone soon. It doesnt work that way.
Also I dont agree he hasnt progressed since the breakthrough. He progressed in nearly all aspects of his game.

I see you made the same point about 2 hours ago..

Personally, I think Greenwood's future is at the #9, and while he may come up with some great goals cutting in from the right, I'd rather see him used in the #9 more often than not. The obvious problem with that is CR7 and Cavani are ahead of him. However, why keep playing him as a right winger when that's the not position he will likely be? Especially when we have a natural right winger in Sancho who needs playing time to get accustomed to the league. We also have Dialo to take up that position as well (and Lingard). So for me, Greenwood needs to play less in the 7 and more in the 9...

I disagree, I think it's unfair to say he hasn't progressed. His overall play has definitely improved, he's become a lot stronger and it's a lot harder for defences to bully him off the ball, his passing game has improved. His main improvement imo is his confidence, he shows for the ball a lot more and always wants the ball, there's a reason he's holding that RW position even though Sancho was signed for that position.
Like previously stated, your argument is definitely to do with coaching as none of our wingers press well and have any defensive awareness. Even Rashford doesn't press nearly as much as he did under Mourinho, not sure if these are coaching instructions or not, but I tend to lean towards them being coaching instructions as if they weren't he would've been dropped by now.

I am not underplaying Mason's performance. You are right about leaving defenders for dead. Mason has ridiculous natural pace and a world class shot on him but that's all he's relying on right now and hardly helping out with defense or incisive passing.

I also do not think he's a winger but playing there due to pace.

The kid's amazing and it's only a couple of days since he banged in a screamer from 30 yards or so. Not to mention he's also a great dribbler and has shown some good passing nous too. I'm convinced a lot of the selfishness is a result of instructions, he's produced his fair share of individual moments after all. I bet the coaching team have been encouraging him for the most part.

Of course he's not the finished article but he's the best talent we've seen at this club since Rooney and Ronaldo.

faster than Rashford? I seriously doubt that.
He clearly isnt

https://www.unitedinfocus.com/news/manchester-uniteds-fastest-player-of-2020-21/

Gifted Academy product Mason Greenwood recently threw his name into the hat to become United’s fastest player this season by producing a blistering top speed of 37.60 km/h. That is higher than any other Red this campaign.

These are top speed stats. If you pay attention to it his burst of pace is ridiculous as well. So I don't know what you mean by "clearly isnt"

I've been far more impressed with Mason than our new 73m shiny toy Sancho so far this season. With 0 goals and 0 assists would you really start Sancho over Mason against Liverpool?
No of course you wouldn’t and anyone saying otherwise either has a serious agenda or is clueless. I’d sooner drop Ronaldo that Greenwood, he’s been our best attacker all season yet gets nothing but shite in here.
