He’s one of the top young players in world football at 19 years old and he plays for Utd. If you need any reason at all not to love him you are batshit mental. Fact is he’s been better than Rashford for a year at least and better than Sancho thus far. That’s not over the top, that’s the reality and outside of Ronaldo he’s been our best attacking player this season.
Whatever. Noway has he been better than Rashford for a year. He only started playing well since April. I love Greenwood and most United fans I know do, but that doesn’t mean that people should invent stuff which is not true in order to praise or defend him.
And Sancho is adjusting to a new league and team as we all know.

Played really well tonight. Don't understand the complaints.

Had a decent game. He could have had 2 assists, one for Sancho and one for Cavani. Also had a good chance at scoring his trademark goal, that the keeper saved unfortunately.

the worst player on the pitch with Dalot today. He should sit on the bench few games.

Created our two best chances of the match. Did Bruno, Pogba or Sancho create any from open play ?

Another ridiculous take.

Definitely not factual. Both had huge parts of last season where they where having stinkers quite frequently although Rashford was contributing with goals and assists. Towards the end Mason picked it up and Rashford continued to be awful but over the course of a year Greenwood wasn’t better than Rashford IMO.

Seems so I watched a different game then some of the guys here. Maybe they had posts written in advance, don't know.

He also set Sancho up at the six who promptly slipped on his arse.

Some really weird takes in this thread. You would think this is the Bruno thread.

This was also an incredible pass considering Greenwood was off balance, being tightly marked and had less than a second to make it.

It would be good to see Greenwood trust his right foot a bit more. He seems to have reverted back to his Arjen Robben tribute act: Cut in and bang. He has a brilliant right foot, as we saw at Wolves. If he trusted it more he'd get much more joy out of defenders. So much harder to deal with him when he's varying up between going outside or in.

It'd be great if he put his crossing to use more as well. He puts wicked balls in off either foot, think back to that beauty for Cavani against Spurs last season, or the cross for Bruno against Brighton during project restart. Its great that he wants to score more and nobody can blame him for backing himself. However, sometimes the better option would be just to put the ball into the box. Given how good he is at it I'd love to see it more.

Yes it is. Wow. Greenwood may eventually be great, but he isn't great today. He definitely wasn't great yesterday. It would be nice if someone on the team pointed that out to him, didn't seem to happen during the game.

He had 2 great moments that should have led to goals in a game that was incredibly tactical against a well drilled team whilst we are in a spell of looking disjointed.

Cavani and maybe Parejo were the only 2 players on the pitch who I would say were "great" today but Greenwood receiving criticism for that performance is a joke.

Yeah was quality. Such a letdown. Sancho could’ve really used that goal as well.

Just uninvolved more than anything else. Couple of high quality moments though.

He can’t defend though. It's really not natural to him.

His pressing intensity is embarrassing most of the time. Has to work harder on that part of his game.

Did he? Perennially offside and offered nothing in the build up. Thinks he needs a rest.

They was both poor tbh, but I was trying to find a touch of positivity before complaining.

I personally think he rarely offers much to build up. He's only good as long as he keeps scoring.

Needs to be benched for a bit. Don't burn him out like Michael Owen was. The former Liverpool man for Villarreal had him in his pocket for most of the game. And Greenwood didn't track back.

"Rashy" is back soon to play on the left and Sancho needs to play on the right or Lingard if he keeps doing what he did tonight. Greenwood hasn't made himself undroppable recently. But that's expected with young players they have ups and downs. We shouldn't be relying on a 19-year old anyway we are blessed with so many attackers in the forward area Martial for example who can't get a game.. Greenwood will be a good player but he won't realise his potential if we burn him out. And give him too much too soon in terms of fame etc.. he's still a kid and doesn't need the pressure and media scrutiny of starting every game for Manchester United. Let him enjoy being a kid sowing his oats etc and doing things 19 year-olds do with their mates.

I'd play Lingard on Saturday ahead of Greenwood. He's earned it. A bit more experienced and savvy. We need players in the team who will create chances for Ronaldo as Jesse proven tonight that unselfish side to his game which is so important when you play on the wing or midfield.. you give Ronaldo a chance in the box he will score

I know he made these two passes, I too watched the match. My take is based on his overall performance, he was a liability to the team off the ball and was one of the reasons we were pressed hard. His pressing is non existent, his defensive contribution is not good. We cant have him and Ronaldo on the pitch. He needs to watch how hard wide attacking players work off the ball, he need to see Salah, Mane, Mahrez and Raheem how much pressing they make if he wants to play as a wide player. Dalot was left alone facing 2 sometimes 3 players and Dalot is not that good to deal with such situations.

Could have helped out with Danjuma but he was decent up the other end, far less selfish this game. Decent performance overall I thought.

So he's been left out of the England squad again, with Bamford being dropped but Watkins recalled.

I honestly do get that they might be trying to protect him, ease the workload on him and not put too much pressure on him.

But this is becoming a bit of a thing now and you could argue by not selecting him there's going to be even more scrutiny on him than there would be by simply selecting him now.

Odd decision, specially given Kane's form of late

I'm pretty sure his dip in form and selfishness is related to the record of teenager scorers.
As soon as he turns 20 he will start focusing in the team instead.

Gets too much shite thrown at him. Does something gamewinning nearly every game. How many attacking players can we say that about? He's even young too. Nice to see a direct player.

He's doing well on the right, and is probably our best option there until Rashford is fit and we can play Sancho there. I also think Amad showed enough towards the end of last season to get some chances when he's fit again.

For Greenwood, you can see the way he plays is tailored to being up front. He doesn't consistently beat his man, but his strengths lie in his ability to shift the ball and create a second to get a shot off.

For him, at the moment the most important thing is that he's in the team. His overall game has developed so much, I'm sure this will stand to him when he eventually makes the transition to CF.

Just me or he didn't seem to get along too well with Ronaldo on the pitch?

His body language seems totally different with Cavani.

Greenwood seems to get harshly rated here due to being rated highly in general. Plus it seems that unless he scores a goal, he's apparently played badly. Given Ronaldo is the main goalscorer there's every possibility that the likes of Greenwood may have to be more providers than they earlier were which isn't really his natural game.

I also thought that he should have helped Dalot more, especially as Dalot was so shit.

Greenwood had a good start but his impact has been decent at best. He's still very young and needs to be managed properly

"Get along" may be a bit harsh but him and Cavani seemed to be more on wavelength. Early days though.

He was trying to do that bendy run inside that Rashford does.

Everyone needs to play with more intensity.

Yeah, Dalot was getting absolutely rinsed, especially with the fullback pushing up so high, yet when we see the replay, Greenwood would just be stood around half way up the pitch watching. It's possible that was tactical but it wasn't a great look. I thought he was better in attack than against Villa though, I'd say Ole had a word with him about his selfishness in the previous game.

Yeah agreed on all points. Although I think keeping Greenwood’s ability to score out of absolutely nothing in the team is still as or more important than anything else. That ability has saved our skin more than once so far this season. But so many seem to have forgotten that already.

To me it seems like Greenwood wants that goal too much that he forgets about helping the team, defending. Hence he's been very greedy in the box where his decision making has been horrible at times and potentially cost us

I mean I am not saying Lingard doesn't deserve game time, but to suggest that Lingard will give us more out wide than Greenwood, etc. Have people forgotten Lingard cannot pass creatively, he can't beat a man, his crossing is completely meh, and he has no pace. What he does have is some good basics and decent positional sense. Now he might be useful from a defensive pov, and ghosting into the box, and no doubt he can pick the odd shot off, but people get carried away both positively and negatively on players.

I suppose it's all about finding that balance, at the end of last season he found that balance nicely continuing into the start of this season. It's only 2 games where he's been particularly greedy so far this campaign.

Are you counting this one as one of his ‘greedy’ matches?

Cavani and Mason have a great chemistry and its obvious Mason looks up to him. Then again its so easy to play with Cavani, everyone seems to enjoy playing with him.

However also quite obvious Mason and Ronaldo didnt quite click, it will be interesting to see how that develops. In all fairness no one really has clicked with Ronaldo so far except from what I've seen...you guessed it, Cavani.

Mason still hasnt scored since Ronaldo joined and he was scoring every game before that.
Not really a concern cuz he is playing well, even that game vs Villa, he had many chances.
Just that yeah, will take him and the rest of the team some time to get used to Ronaldo.

He’s getting an awful reaction on social media at the moment. There’s so many absolutely stupid Utd fans out there. Tbf judging by the reaction in this thread he clearly isn’t as well liked as you’d expect from a 19 year old Man Utd superstar!

People probably have a chip on their shoulder writing him off when he was having a rough patch last season. People would rather Greenwood be shit than admit they were wrong.
