He’s just brilliant, our most entertaining player I think.

Hes still growing, he will be an absolute beast at Rashford age.

Rashfords authority on the ball has grown with age, when he has that same authority and strength, we will see a beast.

He was told to drop off to allow the other runners in behind. Ole confirmed it was tactical.
Almost as if that's how Ole likes our main striker to play. Ole said in a presser the other day that he considers Brunos position to be shadow striker, which is why I think he's so intent on getting Martial back into form. I thought Greenwood did well enough up top in that role but still looks a bit off being physically ready.

What position do we think Mason will be playing when he's fully matured? Out and out striker or someone who plays off the front man, or someone who plays in all positions along the frontline?

Greenwood has crisp skills on the ball, is physically slight and bad at headers, doesn't seem suited to hold up play and has an amazing shot in him from either foot. I suppose it depends on what demands you place on an out and out striker. Greenwood will never be a target man like RVN. But he might be able to become a Solksjaer-style finisher who can do more with the ball from more areas.

He's so quick, but hasn't showed it enough. If he added more runs to his game, he would become even more dangerous

Full on centre forward. I understand the arguments saying he's not got the utilities yet to have that responsibility but that's largely on management. The coaches need to provide and cater the right development so he's instructed the movement, space and influence in phases of play to be effective in and out of possession. That's what drills are intended to do ? create match game scenarios so that intuitively the players can go off muscle memory to adapt against the opposition.

Mason is described as being the best finisher at the club by a country mile (also echoed amongst rivals professionally) why is Greenwood being forced wide. If in 3-2 years he is still being branded a winger, the senior management will have failed him.

Ole has said it will be a year before Greenwood is an out and out striker. He's learning from Cavani and he is clearly picking things up because his game has improved massively. Greenwood said himself he needs to work on his physicality to be a CF and also keep working on his heading which he said he's learning from Cavani. He seems to be being managed very well.

I think he will be CF when he is physically strong enough.

Oles management of him this season has been terrible for me.

First subbed when he starts.
First dropped too.

And every time it's regardless of his performance.

Martial gets preferential treatment just because he is a more senior players. And imo it has cost us points.

Similar to the preferential treatment De Gea is getting.

I hope he comes off the bench and scores today. This looks like the ideal game for him to come on and make a big impact and get that goal his recent performances deserve.

Greenwood doesn't look good in the #9 tbh. The Martial thing is, of course, a whole other conversation but I don't think there's much of an argument to be made for Greenwood starting up top.

Could of course reshuffle and play James on the left, Rashford through the middle and Greenwood on the right.

Last time I slagged off an Ole decision prematch the player went on to play well, but I haven't learned my lesson and I'm sick of seeing the dogshit performances Martial has churned out.

He does it even when Cavani is up front. Played Rashford right and martial left, last week which was again to the detriment of the team.

We where much better with Mason on.

It cost us points last week so it's insane he has done the same thing again.

I get why he wanted to start James since he played well but if Newcastle sit Deep than that will massively backfire.

Was speaking more specifically about today, tbf. Agree is is frustrating when he missed out just so we can shoe horn another player into the team that is out of position though (Martial, Rashford, Pogba on the right)

Man Utd 3:1 Newcastle
If Cavani's not fit then this guy's should be getting the minutes. Ole's patience with Martial is getting ridiculous.

Ole's management of him was just about perfect up until the last month or so. Greenwood was no better than Martial for most of the season and with the media attention and him seemingly struggling for confidence it was the right thing for Ole to have him just rotate with our other options for that third spot in our attack.

He's improved over the last month though and should have played a bit more than he has. I feel Ole is still trying to limit him to one game a week but he should have played this one IMO and then got rested in the Europa second leg. And in other games he should have come on earlier or not been the first attacker subbed off.

Thought he looked good upfront. Very lively, nice movement and eager to get a goal. Should be the backup to Cavani going forward now

Ole is not an idiot and he will not create Michael Owen 2.0 (injured beyond repair past the age of 24). He’s managing Martial exactly how he should be managed to ensure longevity.

For me, he seems growing an inch or more over last 12 months. He will get on his physical development and rediscover the X factor after it.

Poor 30 mins. Dispossessed 3 times. 2 shots, one well wide, the other blocked. Seemed to struggle to get the ball under control. Completed 6 out of 8 passes.

1 goal + 1 assist in 1023 PL mins this season. 8 shots saved, 11 off-target, 11 blocked.

Still better than Martial

he created good space and looks lively, goals will come, he’s young and hasn’t had much game consistent game time. Would you prefer Martial?

Last three weeks:

Soton: 90 mins
Everton: 90 mins
West Ham: 86 mins
West Brom: 24 mins
Sociedad: 83 mins
Newcastle: 20 mins

He's played a lot and he's started in all our "biggest" games lately. There will obviously be some rotation when the games are coming every 3-4 days.

Yeah, but you can prove anything with facts can’t you ?

While those are not great stats, imo he did much much better than Martial. Got involved in play way way better than Martial.

Don't get the obsession with playing him the in the CF position. He loves having the ball played to his feet and doesn't have great movement. We will experience the same problems we have with Martial but with significantly worse hold up play. His best position is on the wings for now.

Because he has to learn the position! His future is 100% through the middle, and his movement was always excellent. Not sure why you'd say he doesn't have the natural movement when thats exactly what he does have. He's a kid though still and it takes time to learn the position properly. He'll only get it with game time.

As a winger, he's nothing more than average. I'd be shocked if he ever amounts to much as a winger. Through the middle, he can be world class. It's not even close for me.

Last season - proves he is good finisher and could score many goals. Very talented youngster. There is firm believe among us that he is generational talent comparable to likes of Haaland.

This season - has been in shite form in front of goals, but proves he got more in his all round games and keeps improving, which is a good sign. He is obviously very talented but was overhyped by us from last season though (lots of us compared him with Haaland last season and thought they were comparable, let’s be honest he is still far far behind Haaland). Needs more time to develop and settle.

If he's a CF he has to play like one. When Shaw was storming down to the touchline, after that fine combination with Rashford, and put a good ball in across the 6 yard line, Greenwood was lurking around at right wing, far away from action. His strikers instinct is at Martial level atm. He must get himself into the friggin' box. With Haaland that's a goal 100 %.

Congrats Mason Greenwood for his role in The Rock's new comedy show

I don't think he is a traditional CF tbh. Think he is a winger or wide forward in a setup like Liverpools or City's where there is feck all defending to do.

Thats when he'd thrive.

Yeah I agree, it's like Ole has been trying to play Martial into form all season.

Enough is enough, Mason deserves to be ahead of Martial if you ask me.

If he is not in the squad given the fact that most of our midfield and Cavani is injured then surely the common sense fella in your head is telling you he has in all likelihood picked up a knock?

This was a general comment based on the recent Prem games he has been in the bench with Martial getting underserved starts. Also all season be has kind of been in and out in general which is frustrating.

That said it does piss me off he is injured/missing for tonight.

We tried to play Martial into form and it hasn't worked. Mason needs a prolonged run now so hopefully the injury is something small.

Could be that Ole want's him to start against Chelsea.
