Looking forward to watching Mason (and the other academy lads) on the tour, don't think he will start the season as main striker, can see him getting quite a few minutes from the bench, and possibly from the right hand side, as I don't think we'll be signing an out and out right winger this season. Can see him, possibly 20/21 season, replacing Rashford as number one striker, with several other academy players as starters.

I can't tell if it was because our players were completely deflated, but Greenwood absolutely dominated every time he was near the ball against Cardiff. Using speed and agility to easily pass the defenders and got into several scoring positions through the game. A better finisher would have netted at least 2 goals. Hopefully as he grows that part of his game will just continue to develop.

I don't see a repetition of Macheda where he has a great game for only to disappear into the nether realm forever.

He definitely won't start the season as a main striker, but like you said I agree that he will get minutes from the bench and possibly some early round cup starts and possibly even a Europa League debut. Greenwood is an incredibly exciting prospect in the Man United mold. Very excited to see him on preseason tour.

As good as he is he’s got an incredibly difficult task ahead of him if he ever wants to be starting striker at United, displacing Rashford is going to be a huge challenge. Hopefully he impresses when he gets the chance, I think we’ll see a fair amount of him in the Europa League and domestic cups.

Has he really ? He is a natural goalscorer - which Rashford isn't. And besides - why wouldn't OGS want to use them both ? What a nightmare for an opponent if United strike on the counter against a team of Greenwood, Martial, Rashford and James.

Mouthwatering.

Pretty clear how highly Solskjaer rates Rashford, he seems to have the patience of a saint too. Greenwood has his work cut out for sure.

I think he should get a good chance in the Europa League to impress. But yea, maybe not as CF.

I think he rates Greenwood just as much...and in the end it all comes down to who does better. I am convinced Greenwood will have a better United-career than Rashford - in terms of goals at least.

Is he going to be with first team next season or alternate between the reserves and the first team? I have a gut feeling that our lack of activity in the transfer market in the forward positions is partly so that he gets more opportunities next season.

I doubt he’ll get much league experience but I’d imagine we’ll see a decent amount of him in the League Cup, FA cup and Europa League. Especially in the early rounds, so long as he doesn’t get himself injured again.

You just never know! Who'd have thought Rashford would get so many opportunities the year he broke through? If he gets the chance and takes it, why can't Mason do what the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo et al have done before him?

What I mean is that I don’t think it’s the plan to play him in the league, if injuries force our hand then yeah I’m sure he will get minutes but if Rashford spends the season injury free then I wouldn’t bet money on Mason starting in the PL.

Problem is that teams like to sit back against us and we don't have the chance to counter that much. Interestingly though, Greenwood seems like a player who can play against a packed defence as well as an open one.

He may also gets some games in the under 21's EFL trophy, but hopefully will not be overplayed, he's still a very young man, with a lot to learn, but he appears to have the skillset and the temperament to succeed. I hope people are not clammering for him to start in the EPL if we have a poor start, I feel that this season is a learning one for Mason, and the rest of the academy lads, and it is more likely that they would become starters in the team in 20/21. I think a lot of his games will be from the right, before he gets the experience of EPL, and moves more centrally.

If Greenwood does score like half a dozen goals next season, I can see his agent now going down the same path as Rashford's agent. We may get the first 500k/week player in Greenwood before he is even 25.

What a refreshing outlook.

Yes, though if we play with two up front they could both be starting.

Way to take a negative spin on a young talent developing at our club

I am looking forward to seing how he does in the pre season, hopefully he can show us what qualities Manutd are missing.

How about we let him score his first senior goal and be extremely patient with him. He needs to out work Rashford or at least match his dedication to training and then let his abilities shine in matches.

Wilson, Keane, Macheda, Morrison, etc. All were very talented but shit happened to them like injuries, the big stage got to them and they stopped learning, stopped working hard to improve to the next levels.

If Greenwood takes his chances and learns and improve, he should be a regular in United's squad day within 3 years and part of the England senior team set up. Even then, he would be just about 20. So really 4 years is a realistic timeframe to see how well he's kicked on.

Should be stickied at the top of every page in this thread. It’s good to have perspective.

Solskjaer has been absolutely glowing in his praise of Greenwood. Greenwood can play anywhere across a front 3 easily

He will be a regular this season.

Doubt it. He'll get sporadic appearances. He will still be getting used to the step up.
The football romantic in me like to think that with Solskjaer we are back to disproving "you win nothing with kids", that if you are good enough you are old enough. But maybe I am too naive???

That's great. I don't think he's good enough yet.

The kid is ready for the new season. His Dad used to take him down to play at Moss Side against some real sunday league hatchet men when he was younger to toughen him up believe it or not. I'm very optimistic about his prospects for the new season. He's the best natural striker i've ever seen come through the system.

Ah yeah... The nostalgic, romantic view this club takes is what has burned us numerous times these last 6 years. :p

Utter nonsense, it's the decisions that have broken us from our past that have resulted in where we are now.

I think some of you clearly haven't watched this kid play! He's not a 'see how he develops over the next few years player; he's a Mbappe, Rooney, Sancho type of talent that will take the league by storm and be one of our best players! I have no doubts!

Then what did he do against Cardiff or other teams in the last rounds last season?
Even Rashford, who got slated on here, scored a brace against Arsenal in his Premier League debut, for a Manchester United team in similar disarray...

Did you watch him play against Cardiff? He looked by far the best player on the pitch.

Greenwood is a special talent. He has yet to prove he's an Mbappe level talent but he's barely had a chance yet. When he starts to gain confidence at first team level we'll see what he can really do, it wouldn't surprise me if he's a regular by the end of this season.

If Lukaku is to leave, I'd rather Greenwood to be given his place instead of buying someone like Ben Yedder.

If Ben Yedder did join he would be a back to the CF position. Mason Greenwood would still have games as a right forward.

That's a dumb thing to say. So because he did not score in his first 3 games, 2 of which he came on as a sub, he can't be a special talent?

Mbappe 'only' scored in his 5th league appearance. He must be worthless as well then. Rashford scored a brace on his debut so is a bigger talent?

He was our best player and came close to scoring on numberous occasions - something our other attackers have failed to do for a while.

You might not rate him which is fair enough, but the guy will be world class i'm sure of it.
