Been thinking that I'd actually prefer him to be steady-as-it-goes with regards to him coming into the first team. Rash exploded onto the scene with goals that meant he was the talk of the country (especially being English), but I don't actually think it's helped his progression any. Would prefer for Mason's brilliance to fly under the radar, rather than being the next media darling before he's really done anything.
Different level of talent altogether. Mbappe isn't struggling despite hitting the big stage young and neither did the likes of Rooney.

That was the frightening part. He's supposed to learn from them but it seems the other way around. I'm willing to see half of our forwards go so he can get his games.

Completely agree. He needs to at least be in the squad next season, which is a daft thing to say considering his age but I saw more in that game yesterday and during his season with the reserves than I have from Lukaku, “Rashy” and “JLingz”. We need to play whoever is best and if that’s a 17yr old, then so be it!

To be fair, Rooney had probably the best man-manager of all time keeping tabs on his progression, but I agree about Mbappe. I don't want to see Mason's progression stifled, but I also don't want him to be relied upon so early in his career like Rashford has been, especially at a club who's culture has been pretty questionable these past few seasons.

He hits the ball very well normally, with both feet! Was strange to see so many poor efforts from him. Probably nerves as you said.

It will be good for him. Keeps him grounded and not land up doing a Macheda. He will know that its at a different level to the Ressies or U18 and will have a better inclination of whats expected at this level even with a relegated team.

Totally different levels though mate. Mbappe is in the R9, Henry, peak Rooney category. He's so good it honestly wouldn't surprise me if he got close to Messi or CR7 level. Rashford is about Theo Walcott level.

Rashford was compared to Mbappe...and they dont even belong in the same paragraph let alone sentence.

As for Greenwood let the boy actually play real first team action before overhyping which will come naturally with English players.
And some are comparing Felix to Ronaldo and Kaka as well whereas Sancho is underrated if anything.

I don't disagree that English players tend to get overhyped. However it hasn't happened yet with Greenwood and based on his appearances for the youth teams, he appears to be incredibly talented. Now it's a question of the mentality', hard work etc to translate it to 1st team football.

I was very impressed by his performance. In a pretty mediocre team peformance he could have easily had a few goals. His movement, touch and general play in that context was also very good. Didn't really stick out as a 17 year old other than that one left footed attempt

What determines what happens when he's still young is how good he is. No point in is wasting game time on guys that are clearly not going to be great. This boy has it, he should be very involved next season. He's only a year younger that Sancho and people want us to spend 9 figures on him.

He scores screamers with both feet, I think yesterday was just nerves. Especially the chance where he used wrong shot

Our main issue is Greenwood when looking around our dressing room right now will see players who don't display the values we would want from him. Instead he can think, some of the biggest earners here, show very little determination for daily improvement.

Maybe. But I think if he's dedicated he'll be fine. Our culture isn't as big as people here think IMO. Our bigger issue is management/gelling as a team/cohesion/passing between the lines rather than simply heart and effort.

My bigger worry for him as it has been for the likes Rashford and co, is that I wish they should get to play in a Manchester United that was fluid and created chances as a team rather than hoping individuals do something. Obviously every individual is responsible for making that happen but so is the way the team is run

His movement looked class as well his linkup play. He looked boisterous yesterday. Shame about his finishing. While he's got good precision on some of his shot, he needs to work on putting more power into it. Likewise his heading ability. At least, he attempted heading the ball, Rashford wouldn't even have attempted it.

Talking about Rashford, he was really terrible yesterday. In fact, Martial looked far better than him and relished linking up with Greenwood. I hope this will give us more good thing to come.

What do people think we should do with him next season? What would be the best route for developing him in the most beneficial way?

I fortunately missed the game yesterday but going by Ole's comments he was our best player, though obviously with this bunch it doesn't take much doing. I'm pretty sure Ole also implied he was ready

However do you think there is a risk he will be rushed into the first team? Certainly he could be very useful for the cups/ Europa group stages but do people feel he would benefit more for his long term career to go on loan? Or do we end up borderline relying on him in the same way we almost have with Rashford? Do we feel Rashford's decision making would be better had he not had to be rushed into the side? Or is it the classic if you're good enough you're old enough?

He will be a first team player and play a lot imo.

Greenwood is the reason I expect us to go for Bale to be honest.

Any other player playing as a left footed striker slightly drifting to the right hand side will block greenwood's development.

Bale with his injury problems will give Greenwood some play time but the main factor is that he can give some experience to the lad and possibly still help us in some tougher games.

I know Bale is not a popular opinion especially after Sanchez - but if we are not stupid in what we offer and work out a good deal - he makes the most sense towards getting Greenwood ready in the following season.

Rashford/Martial/Sancho- LF
Martial/Bale/Sancho - CF/False 9
Greenwood/Bale/Sancho - RF

Add James to the list and our front 3 will be balanced and competitive enough I hope. Sancho probably won't come this season so can replace Bale the following season.

Mason's shooting from distance is more than fine. He got alittle too excited at times yesterday when he saw there was a chance to score. He can strike the ball very well with either foot.

His finishing is a strong point normally and so is his shooting. The more he plays in the first team, more you will see his strengths.

For a 17 year old lad he did very well, but there's much more to come.

What was also amazing about him is that he knows what to do wherever he is on the pitch. He was cutting in from the right, driving to the byline on the left, combining deep, turning and passing wide from the hole, and running into space for headers. So so smart.

He has lived up to the hype as far as I’m concerned. Now it’s just one game, but he has shown there is something special about him. It could turn into nothing once the jitters of being on the field with professionals wears off, but I’m really excited to see how he develops.

His misses are just a normal reaction to wanting to score your first goal on your debut so bad. The fact that he actually was almost always at the right place and at the right time bodes very well for him. Especially given how difficult it can be to even fashion any goal scoring chance on this team.

At the game and it was a joy to see a young united forward with technique, movement link up play and awareness of others for a change. It was such a contrast to what weve been served.

He should've been introduced into the team like 7/8 matches ago. The whole attack has been crap for ages. Missed opportunity

Hopefully the United coaching staff will not destroy him by putting too much pressure on him next season to deliver. Play him in easy home games. Build his self confidence slowly and please dont have any expectations from him yet the guy is just 17.

I’d prefer he just score eleventy billion goals in the first month and never stop ala Kane.

Wish he had Zlatan's tutelage, as Rashy seems to have wasted it.

Thank God he doesn’t. I see a lot of Zlatan’s influence on Rashford and our current squad and none of it is good.

Keep Greenwood away from Lingard. Lingard is a virus.

Please. Just sell the clown. I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a United player more.

If Ole even persists with him in the dressing room never mind on the teamsheet that is a real concern.

This. I was so impressed by his runs, plus his dribbling is more articulate and technical compared to Rashford. No such thing as hit and run and hoping for the best.

Very very technical and clever, the kind of forward we're craving for.

Spot on..

The difference in their dribbling technique is what leaves Rashford behind and why I've never rated him very highly.

I am impressed, rarely a 17 years old will impress me same way as he did. I think he is ready for first team and is the real deal.

I think we should groom him same way Barca groom Messi when he was still teenager and first broke into scene. Give him around 15-20 games next season first. If he settles play him more the season after.

Rashford looks miles better than Greenwood on his debut season. We need to bring Meulensteen back or hire a top skills coach.

It’s not just the technique. It’s the confidence in his ability to take players on, manipulate them and think two or three steps ahead.

That’s what makes him so special. His footballing brain is bloody Einstein levels of genius and he has the technique to back it up.

I know I’ve probably sounded like the biggest MvG muppet in this thread, but there’s plenty of reason to be with this kid.

I think it's embarrassing how much better both him and Gomes looked technically than any other players.

He looks quite promising but in general great players often score on their full debut. He had the minutes to do it, the chances to do it and relegated opposition...

Jury is still out on this one for me.

I think we should be careful we don't get carried away. He's only 17 and there's a long way to go.

He's much more technically gift than Rashford with his touch and dribbling. It's a question of mentality with Mason but he looked very confident the other day up to his finishing. I think after he plays more games he'll start to find that confidence.

It's worrying to say the least. Many of our players have this mindset of passing it instead of being positive and relying on their technique to create things.

 what? how can you figure that out from one match. A match where Greenwood actually looked better than all of the other attackers? strange.
