Martin Ødegaard - Next season

He’s probably referring to Ancelotti calling it a PR stunt that they forced his hand in granting him minutes in his first season against Getafe.
If so, that´s something totally different.

If Pogba wants to go to RM, United should sell him for 150m + Ødegaard. In my opinion Ødegaard is one of the biggest talents in his age group. If Ajax who is better then United atm wants him, surely he is good enough for United also! Ødegaard is a big uppgrade on Mata. Mata is creative, but Ødegaard is more creative and also can drible and more pace. Ødegaard had the most dribbles in the Eresdivison.

150 million? Are you serious? Madrid arent fools.

I know Zidane likes Pogba a lot and probably would do everything to convince the board for him. But it will be a difficult deal:

1.The biggest problem in my opinion is that Pogba would need to lower his salary demands as I am not sure that Perez will break our wage structure for him. We have midfielders who are multiple CL winners in our squad and they won't be happy for sure if Pogba earns twice as much. Kroos is also a WC winner so what would stop him asking for even bigger salary than Paul's?

2. 150 million feels about right for player of that caliber. But given that we need to spend at least 350 for other players(Militao, Hazard, LB, maybe Jovic and probably another CDM as Zidane doesn't like for some reason Llorente).
So we first need to see who are we selling and how much we will get.

3. Raiola

I expect around 120 + variables and lowered wages if Perez agrees and we sell Kroos or Modric.

Pogba currently makes as much as Kroos. And he's a world cup winner. Wages won't be an issue

As far as I know Pogba earns 15 mil. GBP while Kroos is at 10. Even if the rumors that Pogba will have his salary reduced by 25% for missing the CL next season, he will still earn more than Kroos.

So in my opinion the best he can expect from Real Madrid is his current salary - 15m. Still I am not sure that the board of Real Madrid will be ok with this situation.

We could have bought Eriksen from Ajax way back for not a lot of money, I feel this is a similar signing we maybe should be doing?

This guy is a potential assist machine. I think players like Rashford, Martial and hopefully Sancho would benefit heavily from playing with this type of player. Very creative and more of a specialist in advanced positions than what Pogba is. Great vision and accurate weighted through balls.

Pogba's figures are before tax, Kroos' are after tax

I’d be excited in the same way about the prospect, but for the fact that I’m Norwegian and have never seen such a talent from our ranks. I’d hate to see us go for him, and for his development to be affected by the malaise we have going on.

Moot point anyway, Real still have high hopes for him, and we certainly won’t go for a loan or a deal with a buy back clause.

After a impressive season in the dutch league, Martin Odegaard has been rewarded with a spot in team of the year.
Ajax will for sure try to get their hands on him.

M.O was picked alongside top players.

André Onana (Ajax), Defenders Denzel Dumfries (PSV), Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax), Daley Blind (Ajax) en Angeliño (PSV), midfield Martin Ødegaard (Vitesse), Lasse Schöne (Ajax) en Frenkie de Jong (Ajax) attackers Hakim Ziyech (Ajax), Luuk de Jong (PSV) en Dusan Tadic (Ajax).

Ødegaard is currently having another solid game. A goal just after the first minute, and one sliderule pass as well as a corner to make it 3-0. All happened in the first 30 odd mins. He could easily have had another assist and/or goal.

Kind of hope he’s plying his trade in a higher level league next season. Looks ready for it.

He is good enough for United now...he has been brilliant the last 3-4 months

It's the dutch league. Let's wait another year

Its this year or never. Next year he will be as difficult to get as Frenkie or de Light this summer. Would suit us well considering his qualities and where he operates. But will not happen. The media would be all over OGS if he did buy him (he brought in several norwegian players at Cardiff).

Another 10 on whoscored, the same score he had in 3 of his last 6 matches. I struggle to see the player in the world with better set pieces than Martin Ødegaard. He delivers perfect corners and free kicks like, every time. 6 assists and 4 goals in his last 8 matches.

I´m starting to think Ødegaard is actually a bit underestimated, that he still has this "Madrid flop" label on him. Everybody is saying that Ajax would be the perfect move for him, but the players he´s surrounded by on the lists in the Netherlands, are not linked to Ajax, but away from Ajax. I think Ajax will struggle to copy this season in some time. Actually, I´d rather see him going to a bigger league, another place on the continent, preferable, where he can play against better players and at a higher tempo.

Real must have a seriously good squad if he can't get in there next season.

Yup. Agree that we should be looking for younger hungry talented players this summer. We need to be setting proper foundations for a real rebuild. It’s probably going to take 3 years but I’d sooner that than quick fixes that ultimately flop.

I'm so with you on this sentiment. Would love to have him. Partly because i'm norwegian, and partly because i really believe in the man. If he thought pressure was on when he signed for RM at 15, imagine the pressure signing for OGS at United. He could thrive with that pressure ofcourse, but it is not the healthiest environment for a still developing player.
I don't think OGS should even think about signing him if he doesn't think he's ready to be in the starting 11 week in, week out.

Can anyone with more familiarity to the dutch league compare the physicality of the eresdivisie and the premier league? Like, it seems Ødegard is just about physical enough to thrive in Eresdivisie, but would he fall completely through in the PL in that regard?

It's a pub league.

Hold you're horses until he actually does something in a relevant league
Yeah, like andersj said above, if you wait too long its not the same transfer. Now we might be competing with Ajax to sign him. Say he has a successful loan there or other place next season. First of all RM would likely not consider selling if he impresses again, and if he does, we won't be competing with Ajax, but rather the Juve,PSG,City,Pool tier of clubs. No risk, no reward.

If Real is willing to let him go then I don’t understand why every top club aren’t after him, especially us. Having a creative force like him on the right would be fanstastic.

I don't watch much of him - I know he plays on the right but does he look like a midfielder in the future? I'd like him if he was because as good as he is on the right of midfield I don't know if it balances with the rest of the squad.

Wouldnt this be an obvious move for Ole to go after him? I dont know, but we could do with a creative player and if he is that good and Norwegian, surely Ole would be all over this.

Eredivisie players are very hard to rate properly.

Mason Mount went from making the Eredivisie TOTY to not even being the best midfielder in a Championship team.

I like the look of a diamond midfield

Felix
Pogba - odegaard
Rice
The power of Pogba mixed with the finesse of Odegaard; one who likes coming off the left and the other slightly off the right. Protected permanently by Rice whilst a player like Felix can interlink the midfield to 2 strikers upfront.

Whilst it may be a tad stupid - it's not like Odegaard is a total gamble either considering this is a player that the top clubs were looking at when he was 16.

the diamond looks good, but if Odegaard is there Pogba probably wouldn´t be

Have Real Madrid really admitted they signed him just as a PR stunt? I find that hard to believe. Firstly, when you sign the best 15 years old in the world, how can that just be a PR stunt for a club like RM. And besides, would they really admit it if it was true? Please let me know your sources for this claim.

What makes Ødegaard a bit special, is his focus on long term development. 15, or 16 years old, there is not much hope to play for any decent club in Europe. Instead, he got to train under Zidane (Castilla), with all the facilities that RM has to offer. For a 15 years old, this might not be such a stupid idea.

I suppose it's a bit of both. Ødegaard became a big name due to his early debut in Norway and overall performances, suddenly he kept featuring in every ranking of promising youngsters, often at the top (it's more or less a popularity contest these days, rather than actual insight). It was a PR coup by Real Madrid to sign him, the natural place for the biggest talents and all that crap, then there was his early debut which pretty much confirmed the suspicions. While I'm sure they also had high hopes for him, plenty of it came down to the PR.

In terms of long term development, well....Ajax were very keen to sign him but he chose Real Madrid instead, he could've been a solid part of a team that went pretty damn close to playing in the CL final.

I think he has gotten a bit to much criticism for his club choices. At 15 he played a full season for a senior side in Norway, and dominated. This brought a lot of attetion, and I think spending some time hidden away in the spanish third division was good for him.

He also said that during his time there he developed his technical ability a lot. If he had played high level senior football at this time, he might have been struggling with lots of nibbling injuries, like he did during his spell at Heerenveen. I think he spent 2 years at Real B, which might have been half a year too long.

During his spells at Heerenveen and Vitesse he has said that he worked on finding his position on the field, and learning how to influence games more, espescially with goals and assists. This is exactly what happened this year.

Looking back at this season though, it might seem a bit defensive of him to spend it in the dutch league, as one would think he could have done something similar in Germany for example. Then he probably would've been one of the hottest prospects this summer. Now it will be interesting to see were he plays next season. I would welcome him at United, and I certainly hope he tries to takes the step up from the dutch league.

Odegaard is better than Ziyech. He would absolutely dominate playing for Ajax or Real Madrid. People just don't understand how good he is.

All of Ødegaard’s touches.

Still a few things you wouldn’t expect from the finished product in terms of shielding the ball and decision making, but feck me... he’s so in control most of the time. He seems to have had a breakthrough season, and I reckon he might just take off from here. I’d expect him to be instrumental again in both matches against Utrecht, and hopefully he’ll have done enough to give Zidane a hard decision to make.

Zidane is a tool. Don't expect too much from Real. Odegaard will move on and play for another big club.

Someone in the Ziyech thread mentioned Odegaard is available. If you guys could like go over to his house and have a word.
