Martial / joined Sevilla on loan

It will be difficult for him to leave in January, especially to Sevilla. The club want a fee, which I get, it’s in the best interests of the club to reinvest money into the team, but I doubt we will find a buyer in Jan. Sevilla see this as an opportunity to get a really good player on the cheap for the rest of the season so I don’t think they will go out of their way to stump up a huge transfer fee + wages.
Yeah I think they’re just trying it on. “United are a soft touch, let’s see if we can get them to pay Martial to play for us”. And who can blame them? We’ve done it before.

They either need to pay his wages or leave us alone.

It says a lot about where Martial's reputation is that the only interest so far is a loan deal with us forking out half the wages.

It is hard to move on unwanted EPL players because they are on much higher salary than other league. See how difficult for Barcelona to move on his own players because they are on ridiculous wages.

As long as we back down before the end, then fine. If we're stuck paying his full wages another six months then that would be very silly.
That is very likely to happen, to preserve and protect the value of existing assets.

Yes. I think it's a bit of a reality check. I think our squad is better than most other teams in the league, but it's still far from being a top side in terms of talent (obviously not in terms of mentality). Pogba has had no serious suitors for years and will count his blessings if he gets a deal as unmerited as the one he's on here elsewhere. Most likely he won't, but a signing bonus might make up the difference somewhat. Martial is another on an unmerited deal and now has no serious suitors. Lingard probably could have left in the summer, and I don't buy it for a second that he stayed because Ole gave him assurances. He knows the only move he can make from here is downwards in terms of clubs and salary. So he's milking it until he leaves on a free, probably hoping for the Glazer/Woodward trademark move of "preserving player value" by giving him another unmerited deal.

The odd one besides Lingard really is Bailly who wanted to leave and we could probably have shifted, albeit not at the price we paid.

Maybe the mood in the camp isn't too good when Rangnick has spoken about the squad being too big, with quite a few of them worried about United finally doing the sensible thing and trying to get rid.

Even for the salary in Arsenal we still can only loan out Mavropanos, Guendouzi, Torreira and Bellerin, a loan deal is not too bad.

Where are these Arsenal links coming from? Is is not just Sevilla that has supposedly made a loan offer?

I'd take him for sure, I've always rated his talents. Add him to ESR, Saka, Martinelli and Ø and we are looking exciting.

You can even have Soares, El Neny and/or Mari in return. Christ, it's nearly 2022 and El-farqing-Neny is still at the club.
No thank you. Martial has zero off the ball movement and extremely static. His work rate is non existent either. We need fighter like Cavani.

Not sure why people are getting so upset about us supposedly turning down the Sevilla offer as the window is not even officially open yet. There will be a few weeks to discuss deals and like most windows the negotiations won't get serious until close to the deadline so it is fair to assume we will get other offers and if not then at least we might get Sevilla to up their original bid.

Maybe the club know he doesn’t have the best attitude and going by his performances it seems that way. They send him on loan for half his wages and Sevilla work this out as well and his value drops. The rest of the interested teams look at it and decide against it and we get lumbered with him for a few more years running down his contract. I’d rather they try and get a fee now for him and cut all ties completely.
The thing is, we gave him a new contract that says we’ll pay him. If he’s on loan at Sevilla the terms on the contract he signed doesn’t change and we still pay him that amount regardless. Sevilla would and should pay a loan fee to cover the wages while he’s on loan there. Also regardless of what happens at Sevilla, he’ll be worth less when he comes back because he’ll have one year less left on his contract and we want to sell him.

For players that have ultimately failed and want to leave we should get what we can and get the wages off the books. I’m sure there’s a bunch of lads who would love to play for United and wouldn’t expect daft money from the off.

Shaw was our player of the month 3 months of the 18/19 season and won our player of the year award that season and last season and followed it up with a great Euros. He’s been a bit rubbish so far this season, but to suggest he’s been crap for two years is just clearly wrong.
To be fair to the poster, Shaw had no business still being at United after never really recovering from his leg break and Jose. Hopefully that wasn’t a Martial-esque purple patch…

Loan to Sevilla close to being agreed according to L'Equipe. No option to buy.

and some people think we should get £50m for him

please don't take this as an insult, but is this real? Didn't he cost your club less than £40m, as he never hit any of the escalators in his contract (goals, ballon d'ot etc?)

iirc he had a pretty good year 2 seasons ago, and since then has been a near disaster, when he can even sniff the pitch.

99/100 in situations like these, you pray for a little help to the balance sheet and cut your losses.

This. If the first offer isn't rejected, especially this early in the window, one of the parties is doing something wrong.

This makes sense for Barca considering their Aguero situation. Go for it Barca - we give you cheap price!
Don't see it happening. They've just bought Torres for 50m. Jutgla looks somewhat competent as a squad player. Memphis CF doesn't really fit the way they play (I'm expecting him to play mostly on the wing when Fati isn't available), but he's still miles better than Martial. Pique/Araujo are good options for the last 5-10 minutes.

Barca will spend their money on wingers/defenders if they have some left.

We should absolutely not pay any of his salary should he leave.
It's HIM who wants to leave, therefore he should consider a pay cut if no club matches his wages.

Just heard on twitter that him and melanie broke up. He might have cheated again unfortunately. Thankfully a cheating martial is an inform Martial.

MartialFC remontada?

He's got a contract here. Whether he stays or leaves on loan then he gets paid. When they say 'pay half his wages' what they mean is the club pays us a loan fee equivalent to half his wages for the period of the loan. Reducing his wages isnt something we can just unilaterally do to him.

He is the one pursuing the exit, if he doesn't accept a lower wage then he can stay here.

Aubameyang to Newcastle
Martial to Arsenal

I wonder, im not sure than is good for us..

I understand what youre saying, i just dont think thats an option thats available to us without breach of contract.

Its a real problem moving players on for United. We tend to hold on to players forever, even renewing the contracts of players who almost never play to protect the asset, like Mata recently, while the money men wait for offers that meet their unrealistic valuations. The net result is we stockpile deadwood players who dont actually play for us any more. We're basically like a shop that desperately wants to hold onto all its stock.

Cheeky swap for De Jong + Cash
This way they get a striker, cash and the ability to cook their books.

Was watching some of his early highlights during the LVG era, such a shame he didn’t kick on. There was a genuine thrill when he had the ball at his feet.

wanted him at milan for some time, and now that there is a realistic chance, im not sure i would. on a loan, i dont see why not, but his lack of movement now worries me.

but is that just a product of unhappiness, or he is just lazy?

it think milan plays much better with a less static #9 up top (we play better overall without zlatan), and think a fit and motivated martial would be ideal up there. but i guess with zlatan AND giroud (and pellegri) it's probably a no-go... i do expect to move on from zlatan though after this year.

I believe there is a player in there just didn't work out for us. I wish him all the best. I'm curious if Ralf will ever play Lingard and Pogba if they don't sign their contract.

I guess Utd are hoping for a lingaard at West Ham situation whereby Martial performs at Sevilla and his transfer value goes up.

Do we know if he wants to play on the left or upfront as a number 9?
