This overall team philosophy is known as "Cholismo," derived from "Cholo," Simeone's nickname from his playing days, and is centered around the idea that "effort is non-negotiable."
Cholismo is a fighting spirit and workrate that is difficult to calculate with numbers and cannot be defined by many statistical categories, but it shows up in the final scoreline.
You're not getting any of the above bolded with Martial
But it would be good if we can offload him to them regardless. I'd tune in just to watch him stroll around for 90 mins while his team mates are busting their lungs trying to cover every inch of the pitch.
Hard to see Simeone not beating him to death within a fortnight.

Martial fc was a such a weird time here. The constant over the top defence of him, to the point they’d all dive on anyone that dared enter his performance thread and criticise him, and make life as difficult as possible for them.
I’d say the Pogba thread and that one were where the caf first started becoming a worse place to be, impossible to give fair judgement without someone being dead hard work about it.

Unless Simeone runs a navy seals style boot camp, not seeing how this will work in any way.
People that long for ‘the good old days’ ignore the fact that those days came rather close to, or at the tail end of, a rather successful period. I was a long time lurker on this forum & posters were ‘moaning’ about ‘Zombie Passing’ in the latter stages of the SAF period. Certain players caught sh*t for years on here. People were vocal about our lack of spending toward the end of the Fergie era & so on. The only real difference is people liked the team so there were less clashes over players generally.
This tangent isn’t particularly Martial related as I’m not a big fan of him as a player & consider his talents as having been wasted, by himself & his coaches, but ‘giving fair judgement’ isn’t always the case with the players you highlight.
Contrast the Pogba/Martial threads with the Maguire thread, our £80mil captain who is defended [pun] to the hilt by some despite offering a number of the worst defensive performances since, ‘the caf first started becoming a worse place to be’, both have featured less this season but draw more vitriol despite both looking odds on to be leaving where as one may remain an issue.
The Caf becoming a worse place to be coinciding with the club becoming worse on the pitch isn’t a coincidence.

What worries me, particularly in the context of covid and an apparent need for a big squad, is that we seem resigned to losing Martial, VDB, Lingard, Pogba, Cavani, Matic.
In addition, Rashford, Bruno are out of form and arguably don't deserve to start every game.
With the fixtures likely to pileup surely we cant afford to lose more than 1 or 2 in Jan?

Martial is better than most of our attackers and yet we are letting him go because of a 36 year old? Madness.
His knee has fully healed which was why he had an underwhelming season. He should be leading the line unless we can get in a player like Haaland then we can let him go.

I don’t think we’ve let go of anyone post Fergie that went on to be someone that we missed all that much. Di Maria had peaked, still a good player. Shite personality. Herrera, good personality but we don’t miss him. Lukaku is the most divisive of them all. Could do a job and would have saved us some money on strikers and possibly allowed us to build something potent around him over a few years but he wasn’t silky enough at the end of the day. Still Reckon he’ll go up another gear or two at Chelsea but it won’t ever be a case of us regretting letting him for go for the price we did. We were right to keep looking. Martial and Pogba will be more of the same. Good players but will not go on to be consistent world class players at their next clubs.
No player is ever bigger than this club, especially given how rubbish our recruitment has been in the post Ferguson years. Im happier than ever to keep clearing the decks and bring in more enthusiastic players who want to fight to achieve their dreams here until it clicks. If we bring in players who talk the talk bit quickly become lazy or greedy then ship them out asap and try again. I think that’s been the biggest issue at this club. Overpaying and holding out for too long for form that doesn’t ever fully materialise.

Better than most??? Better than none if you ask me.
Felix would be amazing in one of the two 10 roles. He can share the creative burden and pick up the spaces in behind he likes. He can also play as 1 of the 2 upfront, and we need more technically sound players that their touch can be trusted 8 times out of 10 at least. He or Nkunku would be great additions.
Maybe in a paralell universe but not in real lifeWe can trade for Jimenez, would be an upgrade on Bailly and Jones for certain. Lemar might be a better fit for us than Martial as well. Felix could be awesome for us, still young.

I can't even begin to picture Martial in the current Atletico side, couldn't be more opposite of what is required.

I mean it could be £20m plus Trippier or something. It doesn't have to be like for like. That being said I don't see the point really.
I don't think the reports that said Atletico are interested in Martial are credible, they have Suarez, Griezmann, Cunha & Felix as strikers and Corerra, Lemar & Carasco play as Wingers/Wide Midfielders, unless they let one of them go.

I'm not sure where Felix would fit in when we already have Bruno and Sancho here, and young talent like Mejbri, Shoretire and Amad. If there is one thing we don't need it's another player in those positions.
He'd fit in considering we're likely going to lose Martial, Mata, Lingard, Cavani and Pogba by the end of next summer, leaving us with Ronaldo, Rashford, Sancho, Greenwood and Bruno as the senior players. I think Elanga, Amad and Shoretire will end up going on loan next season.
What I don't understand is why all these managers have failed to properly utilise Martial's exceptional talents. Jose, Ole, Rangnick, every France manager.

If Martial and Cavani both go it's a proper striker that we'll need, Felix is more of a 10 or wide player. New striker, Ronaldo, Sancho, Bruno, Rashford, Greenwood is six players for 4 positions who all have high demands in terms of game time. Adding another player like that would be too much to keep everyone happy I think. If we want 8 players for 4 positions the final two positions can be taken by a couple of the young talents.
I think Ronaldo has done more for UTD for the past 3 months than Martial has done for the past 3 years.
I feel like I understand how I feel about Martial finally.
I think he was a good useful player during our time - but ultimately I don't blame him for not reaching the potential he showed earlier on.
We hardly had a good manager - hardly had a single good coach and I just think Martial is someone who has got damaged by that + including things like overpayment aswell.
Life is not like fifa where players can come with a high potential and get it as long as you play the game with them - in real life you need the right teacher, the right class mates, the right information, the right books and finally the right effort.
Whilst people like to all point Martial's lack of effort - people don't talk all the rubbish he had being in a school where no one really has graduated either.
